Local hero Zabeel has
replaced himself as the sire of the highest priced filly at the National Premier Yearling
Sale at Karaka during the early selling on the third and final session. The filly from the Group One winning Star Way mare Nimue was offered by
Nelson Schick's Windsor Park Stud, on the outskirts of Cambridge.
Enterering the ring as lot number 299, the bay filly was
knocked down for $420,000 - $10,000 more than the previous highest priced filly, another
daughter of Zabeel (from the Group One winning Grand Archway).
Nimue won the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas and the Bayer
Classic at Levin - both Group One features - during an eight time winning career. During
her three-year-old year she was so dominant she was crowned the Wrighton Filly of the Year
(jointly in 1993).
At stud her three foals so far to hit the track have all won.
Her Casual Lies filly Niniane was stakes placed at two.
Zabeel currently has seven of the top ten highest priced
sales for the Karaka sale. He is positioned just behind arch rival Danehill when ranked by
averages. |
