Delago Brom has contined on the great recent form of Victoria stallion
Encosta de Lago by scoring an impressive win in this afternoon's Rancher Plate (1000m) at
Caulfield. A member of the in form Tommy Hughes
stable, Delago Brom was having his first start in today's juvenile race.
With Steven Arnold in the saddle Delago Brom sat just off the
leaders early before sweeping to the front shortly after straightening. The colt then
cleared away for a comprehensive victory.
Delago, who is from the El Qahira mare Brompton Cross, was
one of a number of first starters in today's race. At the end of the race the colt drew
away to defeat another pair of first starters, Wonder Worker (Canny Lad) and Yell
(Anabaa).
Encosta de Lago, a Group One winner on the track during a
short career with leading Caulfield trainer Lee Freedman, has quickly established himself
as a future top stallion in Victoria.
A winner of the Australian Guineas in Melbourne, Encosta de
Lago stands alongside Rubiton, Umatilla and Last Tycoon at Blue Gum Farm on the outskirts
of Euroa in Victoria.
The favourite Chowpie, a first start winner at Caulfield a
fortnight ago, was at the head of the field early but was unable to keep momentum over the
concluding stages. |
