Kambula Stud
proprietor Brian Toole was too excited to talk after the win of Run Like Blevic in the
Rustic Amber Handicap at Victoria Park on Saturday. Breeder and part owner of the
two-year-old filly the win signalled the beginning of a very big day for both Toole and
Kambula resident sire Blevic. Having her second race
start, Run Like Blevic finished with a flourish down the straight one thousand metre
course at Victoria Park, to catch her stable mate Keetahs Lady in the last bound,
posting a neck margin. Third placed Social Glow topped off a trifecta for SABIS, the South
Australian Bonus Incentive Scheme.
Morphettville trainer Jim Smith prepares Run Like Blevic
for Brian Toole and his wife, AR and Mrs RM Copeland and KR and Mrs HC Smith. Smith
believes the filly will be better suited over more ground and with that in mind will set
the filly for the Morphettville Guineas.
Run Like Blevic was bred at Kambula and is from the Whiskey
Road mare Miss Roseburn, a half-sister to the Group One QTC Castlemaine (now TJ Smith)
Stakes winner Zinders. She is inbred to global champion Northern Dancer through his sons
Sadlers Wells and Nijinsky. It is ironic that Toole retained the filly to race in
the belief that such inbreeding is considered commercially undesirable, though he himself
believes "you can never have too much of a good thing".
Miss Roseburn has a yearling by Kambulas Sunday
Silence stallion Tayasu Tsuyoshi and is currently in foal to Blevic.
Toole had barely sufficient time to recover before another
Kambula graduate, Glenwest, took out the Snaadee Handicap, again down the straight one
thousand metre course. A three-year-old gelding by Blevic, Glenwest was the second leg of
a race-to-race double for trainer Mark Minervini and jockey Chris Bryant.
Kambula sold Glenwest as a yearling for thirty thousand
dollars at the Adelaide sales and as such collected another SABIS cheque as his breeder.
His dam Emerald Set, by Mustin Lake, is a full sister to Group Three Swettenham Stud
Stakes winner True Spirit. Toole obviously holds Emerald Set in high regard as she has a
filly by Golden Slipper winner Catbird and is due to foal to another Danehill horse
Shovhog this year after which she will visit freshman sire Indian Danehill.
Miss Revic, rounded out a big day at the Park for Blevic by
winning the last, the All Chatter Handcap at the generous odds of thirty to one! |
