Wyong (NSW) - Wednesday 27 March 2002
WEATHER: OVERCAST
TRACK: DEAD
(Good at 1.48pm)

LATE RIDING CHANGES:

As L. Beasley and P. Falvey were indisposed due to flu, the Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:
Race 1 M. Newnham on Exquisitely
Race 2 C. Brown on Hurricane Hayley
Race 3 D. Spriggs on Frontier Fighter
Race 3 S. Treweek on Favourite Blend
Race 4 D. Spriggs on Charnwood Channon
Race 7 M. Newnham on Diamond Mac
Race 8 R. Thompson on Sports Flyer
Race 9 M. Newnham on Hint Of Paradise
Race 9 R. Thompson on Oncirama

RACE 1 - The Entrance Rugby League Football Club Committee Handicap 1200m:

As S. Treweek was delayed due to transport difficulties, the Stewards permitted M. Manktelow to be substituted as the rider of O'Mine. O'Mine was slow to begin. King Kudos jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Exquisitely. Magical Planet jumped awkwardly and lost ground. In Therapy, which was slow to begin, made contact with the hindquarters of Bit Of A Ride. At the entrance to the straight Magical Planet was inclined to lay in behind Oxford Lady.

RACE 2 - Lui Whitten Handicap 1350m:

On jumping Imperial Lodge was hampered between Veni Vidivici and Hurricane Hayley, both of which shifted ground. In the early stages Veni Vidivici raced ungenerously for some distance. Near the 400m Veni Vidivici bumped Hawaiian Chimes on a number of occasions. Miami, which was following, was obliged then to alter course to the outside of Hawaiian Chimes to obtain clear running. Approaching the 100m Veni Vidivici, which was tiring, was hampered between Romeo George and Miami, which was inclined to lay in under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination of Hurricane Hayley revealed no abnormality.

RACE 3 - Westwood - Wheele Handicap 1100m:

Trainer Mr N. McBurney was fined $25 for the late application for tongue tie for Favourite Blend (AR8(e)). Carry The Rhythm was slow to begin. At the start Favourite Blend shifted in and bumped Annadane. Frontier Fighter jumped awkwardly taking Asia De Cuba in onto Carina Gold. Near the 400m Impetrate had to be steadied off the heels of Frontier Fighter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Impetrate to have sustained a minor laceration to the heel of the near-hind leg and the off-fore cannon. After the running of this race the track was upgraded to good at 1.48pm.

RACE 4 - Salter - Blaker Handicap 1100m:

On jumping Annunaki, Our Poison Ivy and Charnwood Channon were crowded between Misty Glow, which shifted out abruptly, and Bold Quest. Close to the finish line Annunaki had to be steadied off the heels of Bold Quest, which shifted in under pressure. When questioned, J. Penza could offer no excuse for the poor performance of Imprint. He stated that in the early stages the gelding appeared to dip, however, when placed under pressure in the straight failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination of Imprint revealed no abnormality. Trainer Mr M. Daniels could offer no further explanation for the gelding's disappointing performance and undertook to report to the Stewards on the progress of Imprint in the days subsequent.

RACE 5 - McEwen - Forbes Handicap 1000m:

As S. Treweek was overweight the Stewards permitted C. Brown to be substituted as the rider of Magic Answer. S. Treweek was fined $100. Approaching the home turn Star Of Pyrmont, which was inclined to hang out, was checked when tightened for room between Starvite and Never Say Maybe, made contact with Never Say Maybe and as a result clipped the heels of Starvite. In the early part of the straight Vo'Real was momentarily held up and had to be shifted out across the heels of A Pound to obtain clear running.

RACE 6 - Mat Parish Handicap 1350m:

Near the 1000m Milady Ann had to be steadied off the heels of Bystander, taking Likely Treasure wider. Magic Sort, which was following Likely Treasure, was taken wider and had to be steadied off the heels of that runner. At the entrance to the straight Magic Sort was inclined to lay in behind Lifeline Express and then near the 100m was further disappointed for a run between that horse and Cuchulainn's Leap.

RACE 7 - J. Stockwell Pty Limited Handicap 1200m:

Valadez, which was slow to begin, was further hampered when Oakfield Duchess shifted out at the start. Rounding the home turn Diamond Mac shifted to the outside of the heels of Yantra and in doing so took Brave Heart wider. When questioned regarding her vigour on Quad Zero rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, B. Cooper stated that prior to the home turn when Mr. Frown shifted out to be one off the fence she obtained a run to the inside of that horse, however, she was of the opinion that Mr. Frown may have shifted back in resulting in her being held up for a run. She said, however, that when Mr. Frown continued to shift out in the straight she put Quad Zero under pressure in a hands and heels manner. B. Cooper was advised to ensure that she uses the necessary vigour in riding her mounts out to the finish. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Oakfield Duchess, S. Treweek stated that although he had to race in a forward position, and with the good early pace, the mare was placed under pressure from the 500m and in his opinion was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. Trainer Mr D. Smith could offer no explanation for the performance and undertook to report on the progress of Oakfield

Duchess in the days subsequent.

RACE 8 - The Entrance Leagues Club Handicap 1100m:

Trainer Ms K. Moore was fined $100 for failing to present the Document of Description for Frisk Me (AR59A). Merry Prim jumped with its head in the air and lost ground. Backline was slow to begin. Approaching the home turn Frisk Me had to be steadied off the heels of Sports Flyer, which shifted in slightly. Backline was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

RACE 9 - Stringer - Strange Plate 1600m:

On jumping Danial's Drama shifted out and hampered Hint Of Paradise. Approaching the 300m as Bondi Run attempted to improve into a narrow run between Hint Of Paradise and Danial's Drama, Bondi Run had to be checked out across the heels of Danial's Drama in an endeavour to obtain clear running. Near the 100m War Chant shifted out to the outside of Freeformer and made contact with Danial's Drama resulting in that gelding becoming unbalanced. Hint Of Paradise did not fully obtain clear running until near the 50m. Over the concluding stages Freeformer was inclined to lay in under pressure.
