Croquembouche hung in under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride out.

RACE 4 - TOOHEYS MAIDEN HANDICAP

Keen Bean was slow to begin.

Approaching the 400M when attempting a tight run between Total Rush and Channon Legend, Horse King shifted out resulting in Channon Legend and Flying Nicko being taken wider.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of Total Rush trainer N McBurney stated that at its last start the horse raced slightly more forward outside the lead than anticipated, however weakened in the straight when placed under pressure and in his opinion Total Rush got its tongue over the bit on that occasion. He attributed the improved performance today to the addition of a tongue tie, Total Rush being able to relax when settling in behind the pace and its liking for a soft track.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded from Heavy to Slow at 2.58pm.

A post race veterinary examination of Flying Nicko found the horse to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer G Rogerson was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before Flying Nicko is permitted to race again.

History Maker hung out rounding the home turn and in the straight.

Shortly after the start Proud Canadian was hampered when crowded between Naberzox and Visual Emotion.

Allfores hung out rounding the home turn.

On straightening Proud Canadian was steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running when placed close to the heels of Tivoli time.

After the race it was noted that Proud Canadian had lost its off fore plate.

H Bowman (Tivoli Time) explained that his mount was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight and as a result he was obliged to stop riding and straighten and ride his mount out hands and heels to the finish line. A post race veterinary examination of Tivoli Time found the mare to have been galloped on on the off hind leg.

S Treweek (Oakfield Duchess) explained that his mount never travelled comfortably throughout the race and was disappointing in its failure to run on. Trainer D Smith undertook to report on the condition of the mare in the days subsequent. A post race veterinary examination of Oakfield Duchess found the filly to be distressed.
