An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for A. Ledger
failing to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement.
Race 1 - Turf Club Life Members' Class 1 Handicap
- 1200 metres
Just prior to being loaded Eire Do took charge of its rider
and cantered for some distance before being caught by the Clerk of the Course. Eire Do was
then returned to the barriers and took its place in the field. This incident caused the
start of the race to be delayed.
On jumping away Eire Do shifted out abruptly resulting in
Final Round being taken out across the heels of Zoffiel and having to be checked off that
gelding's heels.
Passing the 100 metres Steel 'N' Vet curled up when being
struck with the whip and shifted in abruptly.
Race 2 - Turf Club Committee Maiden Plate - 1400 metres
On jumping away General Montague had to be checked when
tightened for room between Darrizana and Skram which shifted out. Leneva began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start Bocce shifted in abruptly and
hampered Blevmick.
During the running of the race Blackark suffered a bleeding
attack.
Rounding the home turn Lord Orb was held up.
Race 3 - Southern Asphalters Class 3 Handicap -
1300 metres
On jumping away Brashen reared and lost ground.
For some strides near the 900 metres Runaway Clip threw its
head in the air when being restrained.
Near the 100 metres Montague Lad was inconvenienced by Skye
Glen which shifted out.
A. Darmanin, rider of Skye Glen, fifth placegetter, was
reprimanded for failing to weigh in. As the stewards were satisfied that Skye Glen had
carried its allotted weight correct weight was declared.
Subsequent to the event the club's veterinary surgeon
reported that Sun Blest was lame in the near foreleg. M/s L. Aalbers, trainer of Sun
Blest, was notified that she must produce a veterinary certificate in respect of the mare
prior to her racing again.
Race 4 - Slickpix Class 2 Handicap - 1600 metres
Approaching the 500 metres Lunar Streak and Dirty Dancer
bumped on two occasions due to Lunar Streak shifting out slightly to improve on the
outside of Weowna Ruler. Shortly after this Lunar Streak had to be checked when attempting
a run where there was barely sufficient room between Weowna Ruler , which had a tendency
to lay out when weakening and Dirty Dancer which shifted in slightly. After taking into
account all of the circumstances stewards took no action.
After passing the 400 metres Arctique Toy had to be checked
to avoid the heels of Weowna Ruler which continued to lay out when weakening. Beetoomba
Toy which was following had to be checked in consequence.
Race 5 -Jardine Lloyd Thompson Handicap - 1600
metres
Near the 500 metres Stoneleigh Road had to be eased off the
heels of Rocky Glen which was weakening.
Race 6 - Jack Maher Classic Two-Years-Old Handicap - 1200
metres
Until Sundown jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 900 metres Smarten Classy shifted in abruptly away
from Lorence Of Wodonga which was taken in slightly by Uncle Speed.
After passing the 800 metres Lorence Of Wodonga ,which was
over racing clipped the heels of Uncle Speed and then shifted out which resulted in Cool
Azz and Lightning Rouge which were following being hampered.
Race 7 - Wodonga Quarries Class 4 Handicap - 1100
metres
Approaching the 800 metres Duchess Kachia which was over
racing had to be eased off the heels of Hopecourt.When being eased Duchess of Kachia
shifted out resulting in Green Pick being taken out onto Outback Angel which was hampered.
Near the 100 metres Namrod had to be eased when tightened
for room by Power In Motion which was taken in by Snakey Bit which shifted in under
pressure. Over the concluding stages of the race Namrod was unable to obtain a clear run.
For some distance after passing the 200 metres Green Pick
shifted in under pressure.
Race 8 -Super Vobis Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate -
1200 metres
Prior to the event Mr B. Cox, trainer of Timor Flyer, which
was having its first start for him informed the stewards that he was not in receipt of the
filly's Document of Description. Evidence was then taken from Mr Cox and Mr G. Begg,
managing part owner of Timor Flyer who explained that due to a delay in obtaining a
signature from a relinquishing owner he was unable to deliver the Document of Description
of the filly to Mr. Cox. Acting on an assurance from Mr Begg that there were no
outstanding debts or any other concerns in relation to the recent ownership transfer, and
,as the stewards were able to identify Timor Flyer from the brands and markings print out
supplied by the Registrar's office, the filly was permitted to start. Mr Cox was notified
that Timor Flyer would not be permitted to start again until such time that the ownership
transfer had been effected and the Document of Description is produced.
On jumping away Teparbeel knuckled.
Shortly after the start Out Looking (M. Travers) shifted in
and bumped Whisper Of Gold in on to Classic Kenmare resulting in Whisper Of Gold and
Classic Kenmare becoming unbalanced.
Rounding the home turn Arches was held up for a run behind
Out Looking which shifted in slightly when weakening.
L. Grealy, rider of Bonnie Run, which performed poorly
stated that the filly did not feel right in her action in the early and middle stages of
the race. A subsequent veterinary examination of Bonnie Run revealed no abnormality.
