"Regal Shark" had difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the straight.

Race 4 - WESTPOINT FORD SUPER VOBIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres:

After being placed in its starting stall "Amour de Ana" broke through the front starting gate and cantered for a short distance before being reined in. As a result of this "Our Demeter", which was in the adjoining stall, became fractious and cast, dislodging E. Cassar, its rider, who then became indisposed. "Our Demeter" was withdrawn from the race at 2.02 p.m.

Subsequently the Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on "Our Demeter" be refunded, and that all successful bets on horses prior to the time of withdrawal of "Our Demeter" be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win Bets: Three cents; Place Bets: Three cents; Winning Concession Bets: Three cents, and Doubles Bets: Three Cents. All monies bet after the Stewards' declaration of withdrawal were ordered to be paid at face value of the ticket.

"Tip Star" was slow to begin. And "Roman Eclipse" shifted in on to "Bicardur".

Near the 800 metres "Local" shifted in away from "Amour de Ana" before being eased to avoid the heels of that filly.

Approaching the 600 metres "Good old Days", when being eased off the heels of "Amour de Ana", became unbalanced.

Race 5 - VRC WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT ONE - 1400 metres:

No report.

Race 6 - MEMBERSHIP CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Acting on a report from the Starter regarding the unruly behaviour of "Fidel (NZ)" when being placed in its starting stall, the Stewards notified Mr. B. Johnson, who was representing Mr. Jim Houlahan, trainer of the gelding, that should it behave in a similar manner in future more severe action may be taken. Mr. Johnson was further notified that prior to "Fidel (NZ)" racing again he must produce a barrier test certificate for it.

"Tickets to Cash" was slow to begin.

Passing the 200 metres "Tickets to Cash" shifted out and made contact with "Tubbarubba Lady".

N. Rawiller, rider of "Regal Love" which was eased down passing the 500 metres, explained to the Stewards that the gelding never felt comfortable in its action from the start, and in his opinion felt lame in the near fore leg. The Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that the gelding was lame in the off fore leg. Mr. L. Treloar, trainer of "Regal Love", was notified that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the horse racing again.

Race 7 - TOOHEYS NEW FILLIES & MARES CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

Shortly after the start "Queen Ruler" shifted in away from "Avita", which resulted in "Crème de Mond" being tightened for room.

Near the 400 metres "Granniah", which had obtained a narrow run on the inside of "My Kirana" (Catherine Payne), was then tightened for room by that mare which shifted in when weakening.

Near the 300 metres "Granniah" was eased when again tightened for room by "My Kirana", which continued to shift in when weakening. Catherine Payne was reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in, and she was notified that she must keep her mount straighter when racing in similar circumstances in future.

Race 8 - KRUEGER TRANSPORT EQUIPMENT CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 2000 metres:

When asked if he could offer any explanation for "Vidal" performing below expectations N. Callow, its rider, stated that after covering ground throughout the event the horse did not respond to his riding from the home turn. A veterinary examination of "Vidal" failed to reveal any abnormality.

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of the following races: "Billy Terror" - Race 3; "Amour de Ana" (Race 4); "Skewiff" (Race 7), and from "Another Trick" (Race 8).

A random swab sample was taken from "Blues Tempo (NZ)", which ran unplaced in the Werribee Membership Class 1 Handicap - Race 6.

FINES/EXPLANATIONS: G. Eades, rider of "Fame and Glory", fifth placegetter in Race 1, was severely reprimanded for failing to weigh in. G. Eades had a clean record with respect to this matter.
