Race 1 - CALLAGHAN MOTORS NOVICE HURDLE - 3100 METRES

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. R. Laing, Trainer of Thornboy stated that the horse had got down in the float and injured its off foreleg and was unfit to run. The Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Thornboy at 9.15 a.m. Mr. Laing submitted a veterinary certificater in respect of Thornboy.

After jumping the second hurdle Price Rules shifted in abruptly and hampered Falknis.

On jumping the hurdle near the 200 metres on the first occasion Electric Turban shifted out, clipped the heels of Shia Khan and almost fell which resulted in the horse loosing considerable ground. A veterinary examination of Electric Turban failed to reveal any abnormality.

A. Garraway, rider of War Abandoned stated that the gelding commenced to give ground turning out of the straight and failed to respond to his riding and after the gelding shifted in and brushed the rail believed that something was amiss with it he pulled the gelding up near the 1000 metres. A veterinary examination of War Abandoned revealed the gelding was suffering a irregular heartbeat. Mr. D. Garland representing Mr. R. Smerdon was notified that prior to War Abandoned racing again he must produce a veterinary clearance which must include the results of an ECG taken before and after exercise.

Race 2 - SOUTH WEST SECURITY MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1200 METRES

Dantastic was slow to begin. On jumping away Bridge Master shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of Our Miss Meg. Near the 900 metres Bridge Master shifted in slightly and got its head up when checked off the heels of Ahs 'N' Ums which shifted out. B. Prebble, rider of Windamingle which performed below expectations stated that he travelled well early and was able to lead from an outside barrier but then appeared to become unbalanced near the 800 metres and rounding the home turn and felt uncoordinated in its action. B. Prebble added that Windamingle gave ground in the straight. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

Race 3 - CHEF'S ON THE RUN MAIDEN PLATE (2) - 1200 METRES

Aceti was slow to begin. Near the 900 metres A Little Giggle clipped the heels of Schobi Baru when that gelding shifted in away from Midnight Novas after being brushed by that filly which was shifting in. Near the 800 metres Aceti shifted in abruptly and hampered Borzoi Doll. After passing the 200 metres Aceti which was making ground had to be checked of the heels of Schobi Baru (N. Wilson) who shifted out. Whilst the stewards took no action N. Wilson was notified to ensure that he is two lengths clear when shifting ground at all times.

Race 4 - 3YB SCOTTY STEWART BRIERLY STEEPLECHASE - 3450 METRES

On jumping the last fence in the lane on the first occasion Indigo Prince shifted in abruptly and hampered Hadawine. On jumping the third last fence What A mess shifted out abruptly across the running of Hadawine. During the running of the race Bone Jolter lost its off fore plate and High Celebrity lost its near hind plate. During the running of the race What A Mess suffered a bleeding attack. C. Maher, rider Yallah Limit was reprimanded and notified that he must ensure that he rides his mounts out hands and heels to the end of the race. The stewards believed his action did not affect the result of the race.

Race 5 - GRAND ANNUAL CLUB CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1100 METRES

No Joke jumped away awkwardly and was hampered when tightened for room between Ottey and Al Zimer when both horses shifted ground. Shortly after the start Cornish Boy had to be eased off the heels of Natalami when taken in by Al Zimer. Wistle 'N' Squizz was held up when unable to obtain a clear run when rounding the home turn and for the majority of the straight. Masked Raider was held up when disappointed for a run on the inside of Berail from the entrance of the straight and near the 100 metres. Near the 100 metres Didjano which was giving ground had to be eased when tightened for room between Boghasi and Lintrice which shifted in slightly.

Race 6 - CITY OF WARRNAMBOOL HANDICAP - 1700 METRES

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. M. Hyland, Trainer of Knockroe that due to a float accident he would be unable to arrive on time. The stewards ordered the withdrawal of Knockroe at 10.10 a.m.

In the early part of the straight Swords Drawn and Regal Royal came together when Swords Drawn shifted out to obtain a run on the outside of Sand Belt.

Race 7 - TARGET CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1700 METRES

Moonlight Cowboy which had been restless in its stall jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Near the 1000 metres Beau Prediction got its head up when checked off the heels of Storm Attack. Beau Prediction then shifted out. Mukilteo which was following Beau Prediction shifted out to avoid that geldings heels and tightened Wriggles on to Moonlight Cowboy. Rounding the home turn Royal Pine was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Approaching the 100 metres Wriggles which was giving ground had to be checked off the heels of Royal Pine (L. Robertson) which shifted in. L. Robertson was notified to exercise far greater care when shifting ground in future. G Eades rider of Barraboy was reprimanded and notified that he must ensure that he rides all his mounts out hands and heels to the end of the race.

Race 8 - GEORGE TAYLORS STORES SUPER VOBIS CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 2350 METRES

No report.

Race 9 - SCHOTT DRUMS CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1300 METRES

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. M. Hyland, Trainer of Unanswered that that due to a float accident he would be unable to arrive on time. The stewards ordered the withdrawal of Unanswered at 10.10 a.m.

In the early part of the straight Acquaintance had to be checked when disappointed for a run between Wangoom Wonder and El Kapaldo where there was insufficient room. Acquaintance was again disappointed for a run between Wangoom Wonder and El Kapaldo approaching the winning post.

FINES & EXPLANATIONS -

Race 2 - Mr. D. Garland representing Mr. R. Smerdon, Trainer of Ahs 'N' Ums was notified that a fine of $200 would be recorded against Mr. Smerdon for failing to produce the Document of Description for the filly which was having its first start. Mr. Garland was notified that prior to Ahs 'N' Ums racing again he must produce the Document of Description.

Race 3 - D. Daffy, Trainer of Taral Glow was fined $50 for presenting the mare in the mounting yard without blinkers. Mr. Daffy was also fined $30 for using the wrong colours.

Race 5 - The Stewards notified L. Nolen that should he accept rides outside his weight bracket in future he may be penalised.

Race 9 - Mr. M. Young was fined the sum of $50 for the late notification of L Robertson as the rider of Acquaintance.
