RACE 1 - GIPPSLAND GETAWAY TOURS SUPER VOBIS
THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE. 1430 Metres.
On jumping away, "Sunday Swing" was hampered when
tightened for room between "Benbara Lad" and "Test Eagle" which was
taken out by "Vettori Gold".
"Salient King" began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, "Lightning Tina" had to
be checked when tightened for room between "Racy Gracy" and "Jorel"
which shifted in abruptly.
In the early stages of the race, "Test Eagle"
raced ungenerously.
Near the 1100 metres, "Test Eagle" had to be
checked off the heels of "Jorel".
D. Taggart, rider of "Salient King", which
weakened badly in the home straight, explained that the gelding travelled well in the
early stages of the race, but was a beaten horse after being placed under pressure from
the 600 metres onwards . D. Taggart added that his mount may have sustained an injury when
it jumped away awkwardly. A subsequent veterinary examination of "Salient King"
revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RACE 2 - SAXBY COURT FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN
PLATE. 1100 Metres.
Approaching the 800 metres, "Anglo"had to be
checked when tightened for room between "Polar Award (NZ)" and
"Jessaar" which shifted in away from "Break The Mould" which was also
shifting in.
Rounding the home turn, "Miss Napoleon" was held
up for a run.
RACE 3 - THE GABLES LAKES ENTRANCE B & B
MAIDEN PLATE. 1900 Metres.
Prior to correct weight being declared D. Taggart, rider of
"Our Kate (NZ)", third place-getter, requested to view the Stewards patrol video
from the 700 metres to the 500 metres with a view to lodging an objection. T. Carson,
rider of "Dhoom Rhya", fourth place-getter, also requested to view the Stewards
patrol video of the home straight with a view to lodging an objection. After viewing the
patrol video of the race, D. Taggart and T. Carson decided not to proceed with objections.
On jumping away "Kangerong Jack" and
"Playmaker Lass" bumped due to both horses shifting ground.
Approaching the 600 metres, "Our Kate (NZ)" was
hampered and had to be eased when tightened for room between "Master Showboy"
and "Spirited Raami" (N. Callow) which shifted in. N. Callow was reprimanded and
notified to exercise far more care when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 400 metres, "Kangerong Jack"
which was weakening, became unbalanced when tightened for room by "Master
Showboy" which was hampered due to being tightened for room by "Spirited
Raami" (N. Callow) which shifted in when improving. N. Callow was severely
reprimanded and notified that he must ensure he leaves sufficient galloping room for
runners on his inside when shifting ground in future.
After passing the 100 metres, "Dhoom Rhya" had to
be eased when tightened for room between "Spirited Raami" and "St.
Padraig" (V. Duric) which shifted out under pressure. V. Duric was notified that he
must make every effort to keep his mount straight in similar circumstances.
RACE 4 -PEELS TOURIST & FERRY SERVICE
CLASS 1 HANDICAP. 1200 Metres.
"Dr. Buzz (NZ)" and "Joie De Verve"
jumped away awkwardly.
RACE 5 - ELLVALE HANDICAP. 1430 Metres.
After being placed in the barrier, "Datari"
became restless and reared. "Datari" was then removed from its stall and
examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who passed the gelding fit to run.
On jumping away, "Natural Reign" knuckled.
Shortly after the start, "Datari" had to be eased
to avoid the heels of "Ruling Regent" which shifted in. When being eased,
"Datari" threw its head in the air and lost ground.
Rounding the home turn, "Refugee" was held up for
a short distance.
RACE 6 - WORKSAFE VICTORIA CLASS 5 HANDICAP.
2700 Metres.
Near the 400 metres, N. Callow, rider of "Alroy",
accidentally dropped his whip.
RACE 7 - JACK SCOTT & SONS CLASS 2
HANDICAP. 1430 Metres.
Rounding the home turn, "Umagoa", when attempting
a narrow run on the outside of "Victory Wing" which was weakening, had to be
checked when tightened for room by "Metronome" (C. Quilty) which shifted in. C.
Quilty was reprimanded and notified to exercise far greater care when shifting ground in
future.
Just prior to straightening, "Pure Irony" was
held up for a run.
RACE 8 - RITZ RESTAURANT FILLIES & MARES
CLASS 3 HANDICAP. 1200 Metres.
Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. M. Hyland,
trainer of "Ozbird", who stated that the mare was lame in the near foreleg,
Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "Ozbird" at 8.38 a.m. Mr. Hyland will submit
a veterinary certificate in respect of "Ozbird" to the Club.
After being placed in the barriers, "Zakynthos
Star" became restless and reared over. "Zakynthos Star" was then examined
by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, who advised the Stewards that the filly was unfit to
run. "Arkropolis", which had drawn the adjoining stall and had been struck by
"Zakynthos Star", was also removed from its stall and examined by the Club's
Veterinary Surgeon, who reported that the mare had sustained a wound to the off foreleg
and was unfit to run. Acting on this advice, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of
"Arkropolis" and "Zakynthos Star" at 4.43 p.m. Subsequent to the race,
Stewards further ordered that:
All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting to be refunded and that all
successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following
deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket:
WIN BETS: 34 cents
PLACE BETS: 24 cents
WINNING CONCESSION BETS: 32 cents
DOUBLES BETS: 34 cents
All monies bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of
ticket.
Acting on a report from the Starter that "Zakynthos
Star" had proved difficult to load and had then reared over when placed in its stall,
Stewards notified Ms. S. Gilbert, trainer of "Zakynthos Star" that the filly was
suspended from racing until such time as "Zakynthos Star" trials to the
satisfaction of the Stewards in an organised trial and at such trial, must obtain a
Barrier Test Certificat, which must be produced prior to the filly racing again.
"Hell Of A Toy" was slow to begin.
