Race 1 Goulburn Valley Broadcasters Maiden Plate
1200m
Enroute to the barriers Mark Goring, rider of
"Berridale", was dislodged. On arrival at the barriers Mark Goring was examined
by the Ambulance Officers and declared unfit to take his ride. Stewards ordered the
withdrawal of "Berridale" at 12.45 p.m.
Stewards ordered all monies bet for a win and/or place and
concession betting on "Berridale" to be refunded. All successful bets on horse
prior to time of withdrawal of "Berridale" are subject to the following
deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win bets 2 cents; Place bets 3
cents; Winning concession bets 2 cents; Doubles bets 2 cents. All monies bet after the
Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket.
Also enroute to the barriers Noel Callow was dislodged from
"Gifted To Fly" who then galloped to the barriers riderless before being caught.
On arrival at the barriers "Gifted To Fly" was examined by the Club's Veterinary
Surgeon and passed fit to run.
On jumping away "Sanderae Lass" was tightened for
room between "Miramishee" and "Soviet Liaison", when both of those
horses shifted ground.
In the early stages of the race "Gifted To Fly"
commenced to buck for some distance and then was reluctant to race and for this reason
Noel Callow eased the gelding down near the 600 metres. John H. Pratt, trainer of
"Gifted To Fly", was notified that before the gelding would be permitted to
start again "Gifted To Fly" must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an
organised trial.
Race 2 - Sun FM Four Years Old & Up Maiden
Plate 1400m
Rounding the home corner "Eem Cee Gee" and
"Nincompoop" had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run.
Gavin Eades, rider of "Saki", stated to the
Stewards that the mare didn't feel right in her action during the race. On return to the
mounting yard "Saki" was uncoordinated in its action. Subsequent to the event
the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that the mare was severely tied up behind. Graham
Donaldson, owner/trainer of "Saki", was notified that before the mare would be
permitted to start again "Saki" must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards
and he also must produce a satisfactorily veterinary clearance for the mare before racing
again.
Race 3 - Forty Winks Shepparton Class 1 Handicap
1100m
"Intermagic" jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 900 metres "Mt. Baden" and
"Pipers Hill" were tightened from room by "Turbulent Force" (Steven
Sharman), which shifted in. Steven Sharman was notified that he must exercise more care
when shifting ground in future.
Shane Tronerud, rider of "Sivas", stated to the
Stewards that he didn't ride the mare out to the end of the race in his normal manner due
to in his opinion "Sivas" was feeling the effects of a firm track. Shane
Tronerud was reminded of his obligations of riding his mounts out to the end of the race.
In the straight "Pipers Hill" wanted to lay in.
Subsequent to the running of this event Stewards, at 2.02
p.m., upgraded the track rating from Good to Fast.
Race 4 - Video Ezy Class 2 Handicap 2000m
The Stewards accepted the explanation of Ron Waddell,
trainer of "Tigeron", for the late notification of Steven Vella as the rider of
the gelding.
Race 5 - 3SR FM Summer Cup 1600m
Subsequent to the running of the race Stewards took
evidence from Paul Didham, starter, Ian McIntosh, assistant starter, Neil Bath, barrier
attendant and then viewed the head on video of the start to determine whether "Touch
Of Mahogany" had be denied a fair start. It was established that "Touch Of
Mahogany", prior to the starter releasing the field, took a lunge at the gates. When
the starter released the field a barrier attendant took hold of "Touch Of
Mahogany" in an attempt to stop the gelding from rearing. This resulted in
"Touch Of Mahogany" losing considerable ground on jumping away. Stewards ruled
that "Touch Of Mahogany" had been denied a fair start and declared the gelding a
non-runner.
Stewards ordered all monies bet for a win and/or place and
concession betting on "Touch Of Mahogany" to be refunded. All successful bets on
horses are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the
ticket: Win bets 16 cents; Place bets 18 cents; Winning concession bets 16 cents; Doubles
bets 16 cents.
"Mesere" jumped awkwardly.
In the early and middle stages of the race
"Mesere" over-raced.
Approaching the 1300 metres "Swords Drawn" had to
be eased when being tightened for room between "Silk Shamrock" and
"Mesere", which shifted out slightly.
Approaching the 500 metres "Shooting Star", which
was weakening, shifted out slightly taking "Touch Of Mahogany" out on to
"Mesere", which forced "Swords Drawn" out wide.
Race 6 - Land Management Surveys Class 3 Handicap
1600m
Noel Callow, rider "Harvey", which had perform
below expectations, stated to the Stewards that the gelding travelled well during the
early and middle stages of the race and failed to respond to his riding in the straight. A
veterinary examination of "Harvey" subsequent to the event revealed no
abnormality.
Race 7 - Finer Floors Class 1 Handicap 1600m
Prior to the race, when mounted, "Flying Heights
(NZ)" threw itself down in the mounting yard. Enroute to the barriers "Flying
Heights (NZ)" struck the running rail and dislodged its rider Luke Nolen. On arrival
at the barriers "Flying Heights (NZ)" was examined by the Club's Veterinary
Surgeon and passed fit to run. Gerald Egan, trainer of "Flying Heights (NZ)",
was notified that an official warning was being recorded against the gelding and if
"Flying Heights (NZ)" behave in a similar manner it may lead to some action
being taken against it.
"Awaken The Giant (NZ)" was slow to begin and
then had to be eased off the heels of "Rancho Rhythm".
Approaching the 1400 metres "Bangerang Clyde" had
to be checked when tightened for room between "Special Eire" and "Rancho
Rhythm", which after shifting in and away from "The Pharmacist (NZ)" (Wayne
Treloar) and then was taken in by that gelding. Wayne Treloar was reprimanded and notified
to exercise more care in future.
Subsequent to the running of the race the Club's Veterinary
Surgeon reported that "Bangerang Clyde" had pulled up lame in the offside fore
leg. Sharon Roylance, trainer of "Bangerang Clyde", was notified that before
"Bangerang Clyde" would be permitted to start again she must be in receipt of a
satisfactory veterinary clearance for the horse.
Race 8 - Super VOBIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate
1400m
Approaching the 1200 metres "Wind Storm", which
was over-racing, had to be checked when tightened for room between "Im
Electrik" and "Our Pretender" (Shane Tronerud), which shifted in slightly.
Shane Tronerud was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 1100 metres "Our Pretender",
which was over-racing, had to be checked off the heels of "Frangipani" (Vincent
Caddy), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. When shifting in Vincent Caddy then
eased, which resulted in "Our Pretender" having to be eased off the heels of
"Frangipani" for some distance. Vincent Caddy was severely reprimanded and
notified that he must exercise far more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances
in future.
Approaching the 900 metres "Caritta": was
reluctant to hold its position and had to be checked when racing tight on the inside of
"Wind Storm".
In the early part of the straight "Shasmin" had
to change course to obtain a clear run.
After passing the 200 metres "Im Electrik",
which was weakening, was tightened for room by "Wind Storm" who was taken in by
"Shasmin" (Michael Travers) who took a run where there was barely sufficient
room on the inside of "Frangipani", which shifted in slightly and away from
"Desert Falcon". As the interference was not contributed to any one rider
Stewards took no action but notified Michael Travers, rider of "Shasmin" to
ensure he has room when taking runs in future.
Jamie Anstice, rider of "Hefty", stated to the
Stewards that after the horse knuckled at the start he did not ride the gelding in his
normal manner as in his opinion there was something amiss with the
"Heftys" action and "Hefty" may have hurt himself when knuckling
at the start. Jamie Anstice further stated that in the middle stages and approaching the
winning post he had difficulties in obtaining a clear run. . Subsequent to the event the
Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that "Hefty" had lost its off hind plate.
In the middle stages of the race "Lafter"
over-raced.
During the running of the race "Glenhope" raced
greenly.
