RACE 1 MARY POTTER FOUNDATION
HURDLE:
Jumping the hurdle in the vicinity
of the winning post on the first occasion, JESTERS EDGE (S. Pateman) dragged its
hind legs through the hurdle and landed awkwardly.
BENYANG was eased out of the event by its
rider J. Julian, after jumping the hurdle in the vicinity of the 800 metres.
Inside the 600 metres WINSOME WILLY (J.
Wallace) was obliged to steady away from the heels of RYAZAN (J. MacMillan), which shifted
in under riding.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of BENYANG revealed the mare was lame in the near fore leg.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of RHYTHM ROYALE (NZ) revealed the gelding had sustained an injury to its near
fore suspensory tendon.
Mr. S. Gower, Trainer RHYTHM ROYALE (NZ),
was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before
accepting for a future event.
RACE 2 CCI INSURANCES/SABIS
TWO-YEAR-OLD NMW HANDICAP:
JOHNYDANZ was withdrawn by Stewards
at 7.58 a.m., acting on a confirmed advice from Mr. B. Dunn, the geldings Trainer,
that it had sustained a laceration above its near fore leg.
KEEP THE NOTE (R. Faehr) jumped away
awkwardly and shortly after shifted out onto the hindquarters of BLACK CURRENCY (W.
Kerford).
In the vicinity of the 800 metres TOPAVIC
(C. Lindop) shifted in onto ELSHALALIE (J. Potter), tightening that gelding in onto KEEP
THE NOTE (R. Faehr), which was obliged to check and lose its position. C. Lindop was found
guilty of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and suspended from riding for a period
to commence at midnight on Sunday 24th March and to conclude at midnight on
Wednesday 3rd April 2002. A period of five meetings.
At the entrance to the straight the saddle
on BLACK CURRENCY shifted to the near side and disadvantaged its rider W. Kerford over the
concluding stages.
Inside the 100 metres EL SHALALIE (J.
Potter) raced greenly when attempting a run between BASIL STREET on its inside and BLACK
CURRENCY on its outside.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of TOPAVIC revealed the filly was short in its action, and it exhibited signs
of being sore in its shoulders.
RACE 3 BERNARD BOOTH DISTANCE
MAIDEN PLATE:
BRIGHT BEAD (S Price), which was
inclined to get its head up, raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the
event.
Inside the 300 metres TOP OF THE MORNING
(C. Lindop), which was improving into a run inside OUR RANSOM (K. Louca), was taken in
slightly, resulting in BULL CREEK BABE (J. Potter) being obliged to steady.
In the vicinity of the 300 metres HAPPEN
CHANCE (B. Vale) was held up for a short distance.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of FULL ON RED failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.
Subsequent to this event S. Cahill
approached Stewards and advised that he was not feeling well enough to fulfil his
remaining engagements.
RACE 4 CUDDLES MAIDEN (1st
Division):
PERFECT CLEAVAGE was inspected by
the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start and ruled unfit, due to the
positioning of a boil on the inside of its mouth. PERFECT CLEAVAGE was withdrawn by
Stewards, acting on Veterinary advice, at 1.37 p.m.
Stewards ruled that all monies invested on
PERFECT CLEAVAGE be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to
be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 3 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 4 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are not subject to the deductions.
In the vicinity of the 900 metres INCUS (D.
Tootell), which had commenced to race keenly, improved of its own accord inside the heels
of BLUE BOYOU (J. Potter), as that mare commenced to give ground, resulting in INCUS
shifting in onto MR. JUNEE (D. Carney), which was forced to check and lose its position.
MR. JUNEE suffered a laceration to its near
fore cannon and a laceration to its mouth during the race.
At the entrance to the straight BO BEST (J.
Holder), in obtaining clear ground, shifted out and brushed BLUE BOYOU (J. Potter).
RACE 5 MARY ONEIL CLASS
1 HANDICAP:
J. Marks was questioned about his
inability to make the weight allotted to COMELY KING. J. Marks was subsequently fined $100
under ARR 120(b) and advised that future infringements would incur a greater penalty.
Near the 1000 metres LINDROS (B. Vale)
shifted in and tightened SHYALI (P. Gatt) in onto COMANECI (R. Faehr), resulting in that
mare having to be severely checked and lose its position. B. Vale was found guilty of a
charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and was suspended for a period to
commence at midnight on Sunday 24th March and to expire at midnight on Monday 1st
April 2002. A period of four meetings.
Approaching the entrance to the straight
FOLLY DOLL (W. Kerford), in attempting to obtain clear ground, shifted out and contacted
JOBBOS ISLE (C. Lindop), resulting in that gelding being taken out and
inconveniencing BOURBON AND WATER (M. Hoppo) and TWISTED DREAM (D. Carney). W. Kerford was
reprimanded and advised in future to take greater care when shifting ground.
COMANECI sustained an injury to its near
side stifle during the race.
RACE 6 MIRANDA FAMILY WINES
CLASS 2 HANDICAP:
Approaching the 100 metres SMOOTH
AS SILK (J. Holder) shifted in abruptly onto SARAGAT (C. Lever), which became unbalanced.
Shortly after SMOOTH AS SILK, in being corrected, shifted out, resulting in ROSE OF
CAITLIN (B. Claridge) being disappointed when attempting a run inside FRENCH REVOLUTION
(W. Kerford), as that mare was taken in by PRINCE ARCHWAY (D. Tootell). D. Tootell was
reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
PRINCE ARCHWAY quartered its off fore heel
during the race.
RACE 7 R V JORDAN/SABIS
THREE-YEAR-OLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP:
MAGPIE (P. Marks) was slow to jump.
On jumping away ENHANCER (T. Creek) shifted
out, tightening DAME DUVESSA (D. Tootell) onto SCENARAJA (M. Hoppo); at the same time as
PATAGONIA (S. Price), on its outside, shifted in, resulting in SCENARAJA being
inconvenienced.
In the vicinity of the 900 metres EXALTED
BEAU (J. Maund) was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of BRIEF TRUTH (M. Neilson),
which shifted in. M. Neilson was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.
Near the 400 metres NOIRE JACQUE (J.
Holder) shifted out and brushed SCENARAJA (M. Hoppo), which became unbalanced for a short
distance.
Inside the 300 metres BRIEF TRUTH (M.
Neilson) shifted out, resulting in DANCING LIGHTS (C. Lindop) having to be steadied away
from its heels, as it had commenced to weaken.
Approaching the finish PATAGONIA (S. Price)
was forced to check to avoid the heels of BRIEF TRUTH (M. Neilson), which shifted out
under riding. M. Neilson was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR
137(a) and suspended from riding for a period to commence at midnight on Sunday 24th
March and to conclude at midnight on Monday 1st April 2002. A period of four
meetings.
RACE 8 VILIS CLASS 3
HANDICAP:
YOUNG WILLY (M. Neilson) and DARK
N DUSTY (W. Kerford) were slow to jump.
Over the concluding stages ALENKO (S.
Price) was accidentally struck on the head by the whip of P. Gatt, rider of EDEN ROC.
C. Lindop, rider of JACK OF SPADES,
reported the gelding had been inclined to lay out throughout the race.
RACE 9 CALVARY HOSPITAL MAIDEN
PLATE (2nd Division):
WIRINGI (C. Lindop) and BROTHER WINSTON (J.
OConnor) were slow to jump.
Shortly after the start LEICA RED (P.
Marks) and HER HONOUR (D. Tootell) brushed together.
At the entrance to the straight DAMSELAC
WARRIOR (P. Gatt) in attempting to find clear ground, shifted out and contacted
SMYTZERS LEADER (C. Lever), resulting in that colt being taken out and brushing HER
HONOUR (D. Tootell). P. Gatt was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.
Inside the 100 metres DAMSELAC WARRIOR (P.
Gatt) shifted in and brushed SUMMER HAVEN (B. Claridge).
