Track: Good
Weather: Cool & Windy
Rail: Normal position

RACE 1 – METALA THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE:

T. Creek was notified as the rider of ACT SURE. Mr. W. Bogarts, Trainer of that filly, was fined $50 for the late lodgement of rider.

The start of this race was delayed owing to KEEP THE BOUNTY and BILLSCAY proving difficult to load. Mr. F. Meuring Trainer of KEEP THE BOUNTY, and Mr. B. Mueller Trainer of BILLSCAY were advised that a repetition of their horse’s behaviour would lead to action being taken against them.

After being loaded SAUVIGNON HILL broke through the stalls, but was quickly restrained by its rider J. Lorensini and returned to the barriers.

MR. JUNEE, which had been restless in the gates, and SAUVIGNON HILL were inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

MR. JUNEE (D. Carney) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in abruptly onto SAUVIGNON HILL (J. Lorensini), taking that gelding in onto TOMINIA (B. Vale), which in turn contacted the hindquarters of BILLSCAY (J. Potter), which became unbalanced. Shortly after SAUVIGNON HILL shifted out and contacted the hindquarters of FULL SPEC (Darren Holland), which became unbalanced.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres NIGHT FANCY (S. Camilleri) shifted out, resulting in LORD ARLINGTON (B. Claridge) being taken out onto SIAM (J. Holder).

LORD ARLINGTON (B. Claridge) and NIGHT FANCY (S. Camilleri) were both inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

TASS (W. Kerford) was inclined to lay in throughout the event, and approaching the 100 metres shifted in when reluctant to take a run between VINTAGE SECRET (D. Tootell) and NIGHT FANCY (S. Camilleri).

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this event to allow J. Holder, rider of SIAM, to view the Official video film in the vicinity of the 700 metres. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

RACE 2 – ROSEMOUNT ESTATE MAIDEN PLATE:

In the vicinity of the 700 metres NAME IT (D. Carney) brushed the running rail for no apparent reason.

RACE 3 – THE JACOB’S CREEK DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE:

DUTTON (B. Vale) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, taking PATAGONIA (S. Price) out onto MARIZZIQUE (H. McKechnie), resulting in ZABACCI (NZ) (J. Nevin) being tightened and having to be eased off the heels of JUGGLED and lose its position.

Near the 100 metres, on the first occasion, STARLIT (T. Creek) was obliged to steady off the heels of SIREN MISS (W. Kerford), which shifted in abruptly.

Near the 1300 metres SADLER’S ROAD (J. Lorensini) was obliged to steady when tightened by JUGGLED (M. Neilson), which shifted in, tightening SADLER’S ROAD onto the hindquarters of DUTTON (B. Vale), which in turn shifted out.

M. Neilson was advised against shifting ground when not entitled to do so.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of DEFINING failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

A Veterinary inspection of DUTTON, subsequent to the race, also failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

RACE 4 – LANGHORNE CREEK WINE GRAPE GROWERS CLASS 3 HANDICAP:

CLASSIC COUP (NZ) was withdrawn by Stewards at 12.20 p.m., acting on a confirmed advice from the Trainer, Mrs. M. Glatz, that the mare had swelling to its near hock.

ESPRIT DE JEUNE (M. Neilson) broke through the gates, was quickly restrained and returned to the start.

ESPRIT DE JEUNE was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and rule fit to start.

B. Claridge was questioned in relation to him being doubly engaged in this event on LEAD ON and DANCERKOV. After taking evidence from B. Claridge, Mr. S. Gower and Mr. R. Balfour (representing Mr. D. Balfour), it was determined that B. Claridge ride DANCERKOV. D. Azis was notified as the rider of LEAD ON.

B. Claridge was fined $100 for doubly engaging himself under LR 95.

KILORA QUEEN (S. Price) was slow to jump,

Near the 1650 metres ELEGANT RHAPSODY (B. Vale) had to be eased and lose its position when tightened by WILLIAM OF OZ (D. Tootell), which had been taken in by HE’S THE SAINT (J. Maund), which shifted in momentarily

J. Maund was reprimanded and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

NETTLES (T. Creek) and SALLY ROSE (Darren Holland) attempted to jump the crossing in the vicinity of the 1450 metres.

LEAD ON (D. Azis) was held up for a short distance approaching the entrance to the straight.

Near the 300 metres KILORA QUEEN (S. Price) was obliged to steady away from the heels of ELEGANT RHAPSODY (B. Vale).

Darren Holland, rider of SALLY ROSE, when questioned regarding that mare’s performance, reported that SALLY ROSE had made the crossing awkwardly in the vicinity of the 1450 metres, and thereafter was inclined to lay out. He stated that approaching the 800 metres he had been taken three wide by DANCERKOV (B. Claridge) and thereafter his mount had laid out, away from other runners and he felt the mare had struggled to maintain its position in the field. Darren Holland added that it was his opinion that SALLY ROSE’S best form was on dry tracks, and that she performed below her best when there was any give in the ground at all. He further explained that while today’s track was rated as good, he felt that there was an edge off it in several sections. Darren Holland was advised his explanations would be noted.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of SALLY ROSE failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

A routine swab sample was taken from PRINCE NASEEM, winner of the race.
