RACE 1 CLIPSAL SAFETY SWITCH
COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE
Stewards permitted P. Gatt to
replace S. Price as the declared rider of CALEDONIAN LAD when it was established that S.
Price had been shown in the race book as the rider of that horse owing to a printing
error.
MIDDLE PRINCE (L. Smith) was slow to begin
losing considerable ground.
Racing inside the 200 metres MIDDLE PRINCE
(L. Smith) was disappointed for a run for a short distance when attempting to take a run
on the inside of SMYTZERS TARO (J. Lorensini). After obtaining that run L. Smith was
forced to stop riding and straighten MIDDLE PRINCE when that gelding showed a tendency to
lay in onto TEMPESTO (Darren Holland) resulting in that gelding becoming unbalanced for a
short distance.
CALEDONIAN LAD (P. Gatt) attempted to step
a discolouration on the track inside the 100 metres.

Over the concluding 100 metres PATRIARCH

wider on the track. M. Neilson was advised by Stewards that under similar circumstances he
would be required to stop riding immediately his mounts commence to shift ground.
RACE 4 CLIPSAL CLASSIC CLASS 4
HANDICAP
The start of this race was delayed
three minutes owing to FLEET DAPPER dislodging its rider, C. Lindop, who, after being
examined by the Clubs Surgeon, was ruled unfit to ride in this race. As a result
Stewards ordered the withdrawal of FLEET DAPPER at 2.10 pm.
Stewards ruled that all monies wagered on
FLEET DAPPER be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face
value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 8 cents in the dollar from the face value of the ticket, and
Bets for a PLACE - 9 cents in the dollar from the winnings only.
FLEET DAPPER was examined by the
Clubs Veterinary Surgeon and no visible abnormalities were detected.
MISS NALA (Darren Holland) showed a
tendency to over race in the middle stages of the event resulting in that mare having to
be eased off the heels of other runners on a number of occasions.
B. Claridge reported to Stewards that KAZOO
(NZ) had shown a tendency to lay out in the early stages of the event but he had elected
to continue riding the gelding as no interference was being caused to other runners.
Approaching the line KAZOO (NZ) shifted out abruptly resulting in B. Claridge electing to
stop riding the gelding in an attempt to straighten it.

SWANLEY, winner of the race.
In the vicinity of the 700 metres LESS
SPEED (W. Kerford), whilst being eased off the heels of BAROUD (P. Gatt), clipped the
heels of that mare and dipped.
Stewards questioned Mr. R. Moore, trainer
of SWANLEY, regarding the seemingly improved performance of that mare today. Mr. Moore
reported to Stewards that at Cheltenham Park on 9th June and on 14th
June at Port Augusta he had formed the opinion that SWANLEY had trained off and as a
result the mare had been sent for a spell. Mr. Moore further stated that at SWANLEYs
first start after that spell, the stable had been pleased in the manner in which the mare
had finished off the race considering that the distance of the race, in their opinion, was
far too short. He further stated that SWANLEY had worked well leading up to todays
event. Stewards noted the explanations tendered by Mr. Moore.
A veterinary inspection of FAMOUS PIRATE
following the running of the race revealed that the gelding was taking wind in behind.
RACE 7 CLIPSAL DATA COMMS

B. Claridge replaced T. Creek as

CELLAY (J. Potter) showed a tendency to lay
out badly throughout the event.
In the vicinity of the 300 metres CELLAY

LOVE OF BRANDY (B. Claridge) being taken out onto WINSOME WILLY (J. Burgess). At that time
HES THE SAINT (J. Maund) shifted in slightly resulting in WINSOME WILLY and LOVE OF
BRANDY being tightened. Shortly after ELEGANT RHAPSODY (B. Vale) shifted in resulting in
WINSOME WILLY being further hampered and being taken in onto LOVE OF BRANDY resulting in
those two horses being tightened for galloping room. Stewards took no further action as
they believed no one rider was responsible.

ESPRIT DE JEUNE (M. Neilson) attempted to
jump the crossing situated in the vicinity of the 1400 metres.
Stewards questioned Mr. N. Nunan, trainer
of IMPERIAL CHARTER, regarding the seemingly improved performance of that horse today. Mr.
Nunan reported that at Murray Bridge on 29th September the race had not been
run to suit IMPERIAL CHARTER and at Gawler on 10th October he had instructed
his rider to try to obtain a forward position in the race but despite the efforts of C.
Symons, the horse had been unable to obtain this position and Mr. Nunan advised that the
stable had been pleased with the manner that IMPERIAL CHARTER had worked home over the
concluding 600 metres of the race. Mr. Nunan further stated to Stewards that he had
lightened off the workload of IMPERIAL CHARTER in the last two weeks, which he believed
had contributed to the improved performance today. Stewards noted the explanation tendered
and a swab sample was taken from IMPERIAL CHARTER.
A veterinary inspection of MARIZZIQUE
following the running of the race revealed muscle soreness to both shoulders and lower
back. |
