RACE 1 – WEST END DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE:

In the vicinity of the 700 metres ON THE NATCH (D. O’Heare) was obliged to steady off the heels of TOMINIA (B. Claridge), which had commenced to weaken.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of GALAXY DOVE revealed the mare had sustained damage to its off fore flexor tendon and sesamoid ligaments during the race.

Mr. C. McGlinchey, Trainer of GALAXY DOVE, was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required for the mare before accepting for a future event.

RACE 2 – THE LONDON TAVERN CLASS 3 HANDICAP:

JEZARICH (S. Price) shifted out on jumping away and tightened SUPREMELY (T. Creek) onto WINSOME WILLY (R. Faehr), which became unbalanced.

In the vicinity of the 1300 metres WINSOME WILLY (R. Faehr) commenced to race ungenerously as the pace slowed.

RACE 3 – SUNSMART / SABIS FILLISE & MARES MAIDEN PLATE:

As no suitable Senior Rider was available, T. Barras replaced S. Cahill as the rider of CUDDLING, owing to S. Cahill being unable to make the allotted weight. S. Cahill was fined $100 under AR 120(b).

On jumping away CUDDLING (T. Barras) shifted out and hampered DAME DUVESSA (A. Stead).

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres DING D’OR (D. Azis) shifted in onto DAME DUVESSA (A. Stead), taking that filly in onto CUDDLING (T. Barras), which shifted in while being restrained, hampering TOUCHARAJA (G. Dorol). At the same time, LUCKY DANCER (S. Price) was taken out by MYSTICAL FORCE (C. Lindop), resulting in LUCKY DANCER taking VICHENO (W. Kerford) out onto TOUCHARAJA, resulting in TOUCHARAJA and VICHENO being hampered.

D. Azis was advised that although not singularly responsible for the incident, in future he would be required to give riders on the inside the room to which they are entitled.

Near the 300 metres KEEP ME DANCING (B. Vale), which was inclined to lay out, shifted out and contacted the hindquarters of VICHENO (W. Kerford) and thereafter was obliged to steady off that filly’s heels.

RACE 4 – SOUTHERN ARGUS PRINTING WORKS CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

PRETTY ORDINARY (H. McKechnie) shifted out on jumping away onto MADRID (J. Holder), which was taken out, resulting in SAUVIGNON HILL (D. Carney) being obliged to lose its position.

In the vicinity of the 1300 metres SMYTZER’S SMYTZER (NZ) (D. O’Heare) was obliged to steady off the heels of TASTE THE MAGIC (L. Smith), which shifted in.

Near the 1300 metres BILLY GOSSIP (J. Potter) got its head up and raced ungenerously, and as a result SAUVIGNON HILL (D. Carney) was obliged to steady off its heels.

Near the 700 metres SIR TANJIL (J. Lorensini) rolled in and brushed SMYTZER’S SMYTZER (NZ) (D. O’Heare), resulting in that gelding over reacting and becoming unbalanced for several strides.

RACE 5 – CURRENCY CREEK WINERY CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

ASTRAGAZE (J. Maund) jumped away awkwardly.

CAPTIVATE YOU (T. Barras) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, taking TOP OF THE MORNING (D. Azis) out onto SUNTURWASI (Darren Holland). At the same time ISHKHARA (M. Neilson) shifted in, resulting in SUNTURWASI and TOP OF THE MORNING being severely hampered.

On jumping away BAY TREE LANE (B. Claridge) arched out, resulting in SEA VOYAGE (G. Dorol) being taken out onto PAIGE OF GLORY (W. Kerford), which shifted out onto SEPARATOR (S. Price), which was inconvenienced. SEPARATOR continued out and made heavy contact with the hindquarters of TOP OF THE MORNING (D. Azis), which was severely unbalanced.

Making the turn off the back straight SEPARATOR (S. Price) got its head up and shifted out onto the hindquarters of SUNTURWASI (Darren Holland), resulting in TOP OF THE MORNING (D. Azis) having to be steadied off the heels of SEPARATOR.

T. Barras, rider of CAPTIVATE YOU, reported the mare was inclined to lay out from the 400 metres.

D. O’Heare, rider of SPAGET, reported the filly was inclined to be short in its action at the entrance to the straight and for that reason he did not place his mount under pressure thereafter.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of SPAGET revealed the filly had a laceration to its near fore leg. An endoscopic examination of SPAGET proved negative.

RACE 6 – GLENELG FUNERALS CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

After being loaded RUBIREIGN broke through the stalls, was quickly restrained and returned to the start. RUBIREIGN was examined and ruled fit to start.

SECRET BROTHER (P. Gatt), which had been restless in the stalls, jumped away awkwardly.

AMBER COURT (B. Vale) and CROSS ME NOT (B. Claridge) were slow to jump.

RUBIN JAMES (T. Creek) was slow to jump.

On jumping HOT LINE (D. Azis) shifted out and inconvenienced STAAR TOFF (J. Maund).

Near the 800 metres SECRET BROTHER (P. Gatt), which had commenced to race fiercely, was obliged to steady off the heels of DIB’S LAD (R. Faehr).

In the vicinity of the 700 metres KILILIPI (J. Marks) rolled in and brushed CROSS ME NOT (B. Claridge), which had rolled out.

RACE 7 – CHRISTIES BEACH HOTEL/MOTEL CLASS 5 HANDICAP:

In the vicinity of the 800 metres GATTON (J. Lorensini) was tightened between MISS JEUNE (S. Price) which rolled in, and SURMATO (H. McKechnie) which had got its head up and commenced to race fiercely prior to shifting out, resulting in GATTON clipping the heels of MISS JEUNE and unbalancing J. Lorensini.

RACE 8 – RACING COLORS SYNDICATE COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE:

LEMONADE PARADE, which dislodged D. Tootell at the barriers, became entangled in the perimeter fence. D. Tootell was uninjured LEMONADE PARADE was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled unfit to start. The gelding was withdrawn at 4.47 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on LEMONADE PARADE be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 22 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 17 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets were subject to the deductions.

The start of this race was delayed owing to REKORB proving difficult to load. Mr. J. Gask, Trainer of REKORB, was advised that a repetition of the gelding’s behaviour would lead to action being taken against it.

CONVEYANCE (NZ) (T. Creek) jumped away awkwardly.

NICE IN TIGHTS (J. Potter) and THE PLUMBER (D. Carney) were slow to jump.

BURRAN (G. Dorol) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and brushed REKORB (Darren Holland).
