Race 1 - MIDNIGHT FEVER SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1000 metres:

On jumping away "Sea Rover" and "Mit and Mot" came together due mainly to "Sea Rover" shifting out.

Just prior to straightening "Royal Laughter" was tightened slightly by "Grand Falls", which shifted in.

Approaching the winning post "Encosterino", which had a tendency to lay out, had to be eased off the heels of "Grand Falls", which shifted in slightly.

Race 2 - HURRICANE SKY SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

"Ingres" raced greenly rounding the home turn, and hung in, in the straight, and for this reason B. Fenech, its rider, was unable to ride it out in his normal manner.

Race 3 - AARE HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

In the early stages of the race the saddle on "Anneden Gold" moved forward, which placed S. Baster, its rider, at a considerable disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

Near the 1000 metres "Our Riesling (NZ)", which was following "Mini Waters", had to be checked off the heels of that mare which then shifted out.

"Our Riesling (NZ)" had some difficulty obtaining a clear run in the straight, and had to shift out to obtain a clear run near the 200 metres.

When asked if there was any explanation for "Tina's Debut" performing below expectations Reece Wheeler, rider of the mare, stated that "Tina's Debut" did not feel comfortable in the going throughout the race, and failed to respond to his riding from the entrance to the straight. A veterinary examination of "Tina's Debut" revealed that the mare was sore across the back. Mr. Matthew Williams, trainer of "Tina's Debut", was notified that prior to it racing again he must produce a veterinary clearance for it.

Race 4 - MAHAASIN SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

An amended stable return was lodged for "Sharna Cabarna" showing P. and Mrs. M. Fraser and D. and M. Fraser as nominators of the filly.

The Farriers' Supervisor, Mr. P. Strafford, reported to the Stewards that "Carnebelle (NZ)" was presented in the mounting yard for this race in working shoes. Acting on this advice, and to avoid an unreasonable delay the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "Carnebelle (NZ)" at 2.24 p.m.

Subsequently the Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on "Carnebelle (NZ)" be refunded, and that all successful bets on horses prior to the time of withdrawal of "Carnebelle (NZ)" be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win Bets: Two cents; Place Bets: Three cents; Winning Concession Bets: Two cents, and Doubles Bets: Two cents.

All monies bet after the Stewards' declaration of withdrawal were ordered to be paid at the face value of the ticket.

After questioning Mr. Heath Conners, Assistant Trainer for Mr. Clarry Conners, trainer of "Carnebelle (NZ)", the Stewards fined Mr. Clarry Conners the sum of $500 for presenting "Carnebelle (NZ)" in the mounting yard to race in working shoes, which is contrary to the Rules of Racing.

Near the 1000 metres "Tin Tan Belle" had to be checked off the heels of "Cappucine" which, after shifting out, shifted back in towards the rail.

Near the 800 metres "Funny Gal", which was racing tight between "Cesium" and "Wild Ride", brushed the hindquarters of "Cesium", became unbalanced, and then had to be checked over the heels of "Wild Ride" when "Cesium", after being brushed on the hindquarters, shifted out.

Race 5 - BOUNDING AWAY HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Near the 1300 metres "Batarshi" was hampered when tightened for room between "Jacque" and "Beccorino", which was shifting out.

From approaching the 800 metres until passing the 600 metres "Legend of Ace" was held up when disappointed for a run on the inside of "Beccorino", which was giving ground.

Race 6 - STREET CAFÉ HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

No report.

Race 7 - PRINCIPALITY HANDICAP - 2200 metres:

"Go Commando (NZ)" returned to scale with blood in both nostrils. R. McLeod, rider of "Gay Commando", stated that after another horse became fractious in the stalls "Go Commando (NZ)" lunged forward, and struck its head on the front gates. Prior to determining whether "Go Commando (NZ)" is deemed to be a bleeder under the Rules of Racing, Mr. S. Alderson, who was representing Mr. Colin Alderson, trainer of "Go Commando (NZ)", was notified that he must produce the results of an endoscopic examination, and the Stewards will then determine whether the occurrence was caused by external trauma or due to natural causes.

Race 8 - BLACK SHOES HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

As J. Patton was to be overweight, the Stewards notified him that should he accept rides outside of his weight bracket in future he may be penalized.

The Stewards authorised the withdrawal of "Red Vista" at 8.40 a.m.

Near the 1000 metres "Gold Gem" had to be eased off the heels of "Devonshire", which shifted in slightly to avoid the heels of "Mercury Lounge".

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of all races today.

ADJOURNED INQUIRY:

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for S. Tronerud failing to fulfil his engagement to ride "Our Gemima" in the Black Shoes Handicap - Race 8 - due to being overweight.
