Race 1 - MINUETTO HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

After being placed in its stall "Kinjika" broke through the front gates and cantered for a short distance. "Kinjika" was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, and passed fit to run.

Near the 600 metres "Glow Baby" was taken out slightly by "Kinjika".

Shortly after this incident "Kinjika" had to be eased off the heels of "Glow Baby", which then shifted in. "Scarlet Ark", which was following, had to be checked off the heels of "Kinjika".

W. Davis, rider of "Scarlet Ark" which performed below expectations, stated that the mare was not suited by the slow pace in the early stages of the race, and had to be checked off the heels of "Bunster" near the 800 metres. It again had to be checked off the heels of "Kinjika" near the 600 metres. Davis added that "Scarlet Ark" did not stretch out as he would have expected in the straight, and may have jarred up on the firm track today. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

G. Frearson, trainer of "Indigo Rain" which had improved today compared to its recent runs on rain-affected tracks, stated that the mare appreciated the firm track conditions and the drop in class today.

Race 2 - STARGAZER SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

Near the 200 metres "Desert Fox" shifted in away from "Trojan Warrior" and inconvenienced "Swift Rule".

"Celtic Breeze", which was having its first race start, hung out during the race, and was eased down over the concluding stages. A veterinary examination revealed that the mare had sustained a cut to the near side of its mouth.

Race 3 - BEECHCRAFT SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

No report.

Race 4 - BRIMSES SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

D. Smith, rider of "Carnaby Kiss", was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in shortly after the start when not sufficiently clear of "'Runon", which resulted in "Runon" having to be checked off the heels of "Carnaby Kiss".

Just prior to this incident "Runon" had been taken out by "Stefani".

Race 5 - JAYCO CARAVANS HANDICAP - 1300 metres:

"Marble Creek" was slow to begin.

"Contend" had some difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early part of the straight, and then had to change course to obtain a clear run near the 100 metres.

Race 6 - BLACK ONYX HANDICAP - 1000 metres:

After being placed in its stall "Opera Afloat" broke through the front gates and galloped for a short distance riderless. "Opera Afloat" was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run. As a result of this incident the start of the race was delayed.

"Comedy Snip" hung out rounding the home turn, and took "Senor Pagolino" wide.

Race 7 - FIGHTING FORCE SUPER VOBIS STAYERS SERIES HANDICAP - 2356 metres:

"Stealth Knight" and "O'Beil" were slow to begin.

Race 8 - CONBITUATE LADY HANDICAP - 2156 metres:

In the early part of the straight "Flying Belle" had difficulty obtaining a clear run.

For some distance approaching and passing the 200 metres "Zacoby (NZ)" was held up when unable to obtain a narrow run on the inside of "Sanderae Lass", which was weakening, where there was not sufficient room.

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of all races today.

FINES/EXPLANATIONS:

Mr. David Noonan, trainer of "Star's Jewel" which ran in the Jayco Caravans Handicap - Race 5 - was fined $50 for the late notification of P. Mertens as the rider of the gelding.

Mr. Michael Moroney, trainer of "San Gennaro (NZ)", was fined $30 for using wrong colours on the gelding which ran in the Jayco Caravans Handicap
