Race 1 - TOOLAMBOOL HURDLE - 3300 metres:
"Sylvan Heights (NZ)" was slow to begin.
D. Crozier, rider of "Zabuan (NZ)" which
performed below expectations, stated that the gelding did not handle the track conditions
at any stage. Crozier added that "Zabuan (NZ)" felt normal on pulling up. A
veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormality.
Race 2 - KILSHERY SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1200
metres:
"Bahamian Rhapsody" shifted in on jumping away
and hampered "Nancy Eleanor".
Shortly after the start "King Wells" became
unbalanced when tightened for room between "Arribiata" and "Gibernau",
which shifted in.
Near the 900 metres "Domine" shifted out across
the heels of "Chowpie" and inconvenienced "Swift Rule". "Logical
Choice", which was following, was inconvenienced.
"Chowpie" had a tendency to hang in under
pressure in the straight.
Approaching the winning post "King Wells" shifted
in under pressure and brushed "Swift Rule".
Race 3 - CREWMAN SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1000
metres:

Race 4 - EVEN STEVENS HANDICAP - 2375 metres:
Acting on veterinary advice that "Farmer News"
was suffering from spasmodic colic and was unfit to run, the Stewards withdrew the gelding
from the event at 10.30 a.m.
The start of the race was delayed when the starting stalls
which were to be used had to be replaced due to mechanical problems.
"Lexitaw" was slow to begin.
Near the 1300 metres "Flying Matinee", which was
over-racing, shifted in and hampered "Eye Chance (NZ)".
Running to the winning post the first time "Cloud
Dance (NZ)" got its head up and raced ungenerously when being restrained.
On the home turn "Eye Chance (NZ)" dipped in the
going on two occasions. Tony Carson, rider of "Eye Chance (NZ)" stated that the
gelding did not handle the track conditions today.
Race 5 - LONSDALE HANDICAP - 1600 metres:
At the entrance to the straight "It's Contagious"
was hampered when tightened for room between "Camargo", which shifted out, and
"Aggie's Heart", which after being held up for a run shifted in slightly.
Race 6 - KAPALARAN SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1600
metres:
Approaching the 200 metres B. Park, rider of
"Salvite", dropped his whip.
On return to scale it was noted that "Champagne
Miss" had lost its off fore plate.
Reece Wheeler, rider of "Archmobile", stated that
the filly travelled well in the early and middle stages of the race, but failed to respond
when put under pressure in the straight.
Craig Newitt, rider of "Champagne Miss", was
fined $300 for unnecessary use of the whip on the filly, which ran in this event. Newitt
had been previously spoken to regarding his use of the whip.
Race 7 - BELHAVEN HANDICAP - 1300 metres:
"Philotimo" shifted out under pressure
towards "Lady Wild" over the concluding stages of the race.
Race 8 - WINTER HANDICAP - 1200 metres:
No report.
SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of
all races today.
FINES/EXPLANATIONS:
Mr. Clarry Conners, trainer of "Tombola" which
ran in the Lonsdale Handicap - Race 5 - was fined $50 for the late notification of N.
Wilson as the rider of the gelding.
Mr. C. Brown, trainer of "As You Do" which ran in
the Bellhaven Handicap - Race 7 - was fined the sum of $50 for presenting the gelding in
the mounting yard without blinkers.
ADJOURNED INQUIRY:
An inquiry into the reason for C. Maher being unable to
ride "Waratah Special" due to being overweight was adjourned to a date to be
fixed. |
