"DE LAGO BAY" was slow to begin. Shortly after the start "HENTY (NZ)" (D. Nikolic) shifted out and tightened "OCEAN LAKE" out onto "SHAMAN'S DREAM" and "MAVIS" resulting in "MAVIS" being tightened for room between "SHAMAN'S DREAM" and "DERRINGER". D. Nikolic was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Shortly after this incident "DERRINGER" shifted in away from "BRIDLECAN" resulting in "MAVIS" which was racing to the inside of "DERRINGER" being taken in on to the heels of "SHAMAN'S DREAM", resulting in "MAVIS" clipping that gelding's heels and falling. "DE LAGO BAY" which was following "MAVIS" was brought down.

Approaching the 800 metres "OCEAN LAKE" which was over racing had to be checked off the heels of "TERTINA".

R. Cartwright, rider of "NORTHERN SIROCCO" which performed poorly, stated to the Stewards that the gelding never travelled throughout the race and as in his opinion there may have been something amiss with "NORTHERN SIROCCO'S" action, he eased the gelding down in the straight.

Race 2 - STRATFORD MAIDEN PLATE (1) 1400 metres:

The start of the race was delayed due to the running rail being realigned after an incident in the first race.

"DANCE THE BRIDE" was slow to begin.

In the early and middle stages of the race "TRYING TIME" over raced.

Race 3 - BOISDALE MAIDEN PLATE (2) 1400 metres:

After passing the 200 metres "SKY GLOW" shifted out and brushed "SOVIET LIGHTS".

Race 4 - NEWRY FILLIES & MARES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1700 metres:

No report.

Race 5 - MAFFRA SUPER VOBIS THREE YEARS OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1100 metres:

Approaching the 500 metres "OKA" laid out across the heels of "NAWANDA".

Shortly after this incident "OKA" had to be checked when tightened for room between "JUAN D'OR" and "LUCKY TRADER" (F. Alesci) which shifted in slightly. "OUR NUDGER" which was following was hampered in consequence. F. Alesci was notified to exercise far greater care when shifting ground in future.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight "JUAN D'OR" had difficulty in obtaining a clear run.

Race 6 - WELLINGTON SHIRE CUP 1700 metres:

Acting on a report from the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who reported that "SIR LINFORD" had sustained lacerations in the float en route to the course and was unfit to run, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 11.45 a.m.

After passing the 200 metres "GLOBAL AFFAIR (NZ)" had to be eased when tightened for room between "PRINCE STANDAAN" which shifted in slightly and "HOW BIG" which shifted out.

Race 7 - YARRAM SUPER VOBIS STAYERS CLASS 4 HANDICAP 2200 metres:

Approaching the 1800 metres "ALROY" had to be eased to avoid the heels of "ZOKOR" which shifted in.

After straightening "ALROY" had to be checked and "TOKEN RULER" was hampered when tightened for room between "FORCE OF HABIT" which shifted in slightly, and "ZATOPEK (NZ)" (M. Evans) which shifted out to obtain a run on the outside of "SHE'S HAND PICKED (NZ)" (A. Findlay) where there was insufficient room. The interference was aggravated due to "SHE'S HAND PICKED (NZ)", which was racing to the inside of "ZATOPEK (NZ)", shifting out. M. Evans was severely reprimanded and notified that he must ensure that he has sufficient room when attempting runs in future.

A. Findlay was reprimanded and told to exercise more care when in similar circumstances in future.

S. Noll, rider of "FORCE OF HABIT" second placegetter, wished to view the Stewards Patrol Video of the straight with a view to lodging an objection. After viewing the film S. Noll decided not to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared.

Race 8 - TINAMBA CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 metres:

"ALLURING EYES" was slow to begin and "DARK WATERS" and "MASTER JAGO" came together due to both horses shifted ground.

P. Mertens, rider of "CELTIC PEACE" stated to the Stewards that over the concluding stages the gelding laid in and he was of the opinion that something may be amiss with the gelding and for this reason P. Mertens did not ride his mount out with his usual vigour.
