RACE 1 - SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN
PLATE. 1200 Metres.
"Fiji Babe" shifted out on jumping away and
tightened "Kelzipper" onto "High De Lago" resulting in those horses
being hampered.
"Tully Oh" had a tendency to lay out approaching
and rounding the home turn.
"Gembrook Lass" hung out rounding the home turn.
In the early part of the straight, Kehlstein" shifted
in slightly onto "Gembrook Lass". Shortly after this incident, "Gembrook
Lass" had to be checked over the heels of "Kehlstein" when taken out by
"Our Blue Sienna" which shifted out abruptly after being brushed by "High
De Lago" which improved on its inside and shifted out slightly.
At the entrance to the straight "Irish Knight",
which was laying in, had to be eased to avoid the heels of "Barmaid Rules" which
shifted out.
RACE 2 - GIPPSLAND PARTY HIRE MAIDEN PLATE. 1500
Metres.
On the way to the barriers, "Spider Henry" took
charge of its rider and galloped around the track for some distance. On returning to the
barriers, "Spider Henry" was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and
passed fit to run.
Shortly after the start, "Ruan Minor" shifted in
and made contact with "Whisk" resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced and
because of this, "Whisk" shifted out and took "Ruan Minor" out which
then had to be checked off the heels of "Soviet Liaison". "Believe It Or
Not (NZ)", which was racing on the inside of "Whisk", was also
inconvenienced.
In the early part of the straight, "Wellington
Drive" hung in under pressure which necessitated Ms. T. Butler, the mare's rider,
having to stop riding and straighten her mount.
C. Quilty, rider of "Sir Galaway", stated that he
endeavoured to ride the gelding, which drew an outside barrier back in the field with
cover, as "Sir Galaway" has over-raced when ridden on the pace in recent starts.
C. Quilty added that near the 1200 metres, "Sir Galaway" threw its head in the
air when being restrained on two occasions approaching and passing the 1200 metres and
proved difficult to control. C. Quilty added that "Sir Galaway" hung in when
making ground in the straight and he was unable to ride the gelding out in his normal
manner and had to check off the heels of "Jughead Jed" approaching the winning
post.
Approaching the 800 metres, "Suddenly Broke"
became unbalanced and then lost ground when tightened slightly by "Tarcoola
Magic" which shifted in before being straightened by its rider.
RACE 3 - STEEPLES OF MORNINGTON TABARET CLASS
3 HANDICAP. 1500 Metres.
Shortly after the start, "Giftilla" had to be
eased off the heels of "Shugaa" which shifted in.
F. Alesci, rider of "Smytzer's Power", could
offer no explanation for the gelding's poor performance. F. Alesci stated that
"Smytzer's Power" failed to respond when put under pressure approaching and
rounding the home turn and did not respond to his riding. F. Alesci added that he believed
there may be something amiss with the gelding which pulled up quickly after passing the
post. A veterinary examination of "Smytzer's Power" revealed no
abnormality.
RACE 4 - HALES JEWELLERS/ROYAL SELANGOR CLASS
1 HANDICAP. 1200 Metres.
After viewing the video patrol, D. Short, rider of
"Lord Erin (NZ)", fourth place-getter, lodged an objection against
"Alluring Eyes" being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference
in the early part of the straight. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and
viewing the video, Stewards dismissed the objection. It was established that in the early
part of the straight, "Lord Erin (NZ)", which had a tendency to lay in, shifted
in to obtain a narrow run on the inside of "Aunty Robin" and brushed the running
rail. At that stage, "Alluring Eyes" shifted in away from "Celtic
Peace" and brushed "Aunty Robin", resulting in "Aunty Robin"
becoming unbalanced and shifting in away from "Alluring Eyes" across the running
of "Lord Erin (NZ)" which had to be checked severely. As no one rider was
responsible for the incident, Stewards took no action; however, V. Duric ("Alluring
Eyes") was notified that he must make a far greater effort to keep his mounts
straight when in similar circumstances in future. After this incident, "Lord Erin
(NZ)" hung in and, as a result, D. Short was unable to ride the gelding out in his
normal manner.
For some distance approaching and passing the 800 metres,
"Air Cooled (NZ)" became unbalanced when racing tight between "Lord Erin
(NZ)", which was racing away from the rail and "Celtic Peace" which shifted
in slightly. The tightening was aggravated when "Air Cooled (NZ)" made contact
with the hindquarters of both "Lord Erin (NZ)" and "Celtic Peace",
resulting in "Lord Erin (NZ)" being turned outwards and "Celtic Peace"
being turned inwards. As no one rider was responsible for the incident, Stewards took no
action.
RACE 5 - GLENCOE ANGUS CLASS 4 HANDICAP. 1200
Metres.
"Top Perch" and "Glencampbell
Girl" were slow to begin.
RACE 6 - CARLTON DRAUGHT SALE CUP. 1600
Metres.
"Refugee" over-raced in the early
stages of the race and as a result its saddle shifted forward. Approaching the 800 metres,
"Refugee", which continued to over-race, accidentally clipped the heels of
"Swords Drawn" and knuckled. Due to the saddle shifting, L. Milham
("Refugee") was placed at a considerable disadvantage throughout the race.
RACE 7 - PRESTNEY/MERCEDES BENZ CLASS 4 CUP.
2200Metres.
Approaching the 800 metres, "Rising Fine" had to
be eased off the heels of "Our Only Vice (NZ)" when taken in by
"Playground".
Approaching the winning post, "Our Sugar Street
(NZ)" shifted out under pressure and inconvenienced "Our Only Vice (NZ)"
which was making ground on its outside.
RACE 8 - GREENWATTLE SPRINT HANDICAP. 1200
Metres.
D. Nikolic, rider of "Real Boy", stated that the
gelding jumped away awkwardly and commenced to hang out. D. Nikolic added that "Real
Boy" hung out badly throughout the race and he was unable to ride it in his normal
manner and, for this reason, he eased it down over the concluding stages. Subsequently,
Stewards notified Mr. Robert Moore, who was representing Mr. G. Hanlon, trainer of
"Real Boy", that a warning was being placed against "Real Boy" that
should the gelding perform in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended from racing
for a period.
R. Wheeler, rider of "Transparent Lover", was
charged with careless riding, the careless riding being that he permitted his mount to
shift in near the 900 metres when not sufficiently clear of "Pugmoss", resulting
in "Pugmoss" having to be checked, clipping the heels of "Transparent
Lover" and almost falling. "Sheer Special", which was racing on the inside
of "Pugmoss", was inconvenienced. As R. Wheeler wished to call his master,
Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.
RACE 9 - JAYCO CARAVANS CLASS 2 HANDICAP. 1700
Metres.
"Star Of Sale" was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, "Destination Dubai"
shifted in away from "Ya Waheed" and hampered "Kevjoy" and "Black
Watch"
Near the 800 metres, "Star Of Sale" had to be
checked off the heels of "Kevjoy" when that gelding steadied.
M. Rodd, rider of "Ya Waheed", was charged
with careless riding, the careless riding being that he shifted in to obtain a run between
"Destination Dubai" and "Master Jago" in the early part of the
straight where there was insufficient room, resulting in "Master Jago" being
tightened onto "Sergio (NZ)" and "Kick Back", resulting in
"Sergio (NZ)" and "Kick Back" having to be checked severely and
"Master Jago" being hampered. M. Rodd was suspended from riding in races to
commence at midnight on the 9th February, 2002 and to expire at midnight on the
24th February, 2002.
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that "Sergio
(NZ)" was lame in the off foreleg. Mr. Ray Cleaver, trainer of "Sergio
(NZ)", was notified that prior to it racing again, he must produce a veterinary
clearance.
