"CHIMING MILL" was held up for a run in the early stages of the straight.

Race 2 - MAFFRA DAY S V 3YO MAIDEN PLATE (2) 1200 metres:

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr D. Cunningham, trainer of "ANTE" who stated that subsequent to scratching time this morning, the gelding was found to have a lump near its offside ear and was unfit to run, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "ANTE" at 9.41 a.m. Mr Cunningham assured the Stewards that a veterinary certificate in respect of the gelding would be sent to Racing Victoria Ltd.

Approaching the 1100 metres "POLAR AWARD (NZ)" and "ROSILO" came together resulting in "POLAR AWARD (NZ)" becoming unbalanced.

Race 3 - MAFFRA S V 2YO MAIDEN PLATE 1100 metres:

After being placed in the barriers, "GOLD IDEAL" broke through the front and cantered for a short distance. "GOLD IDEAL" was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

"GOLD IDEAL" reared and jumped away awkwardly.

After passing the 200 metres "MACHISMO" was held up when disappointed for a run on the inside of "BRUMAIRE".

Race 5 - RITCHIES WHERE THE COMMUNITY BENEFITS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 metres:

"MOSS BALLAD" was slow to begin.

P. Sarlo, rider of "MONDE JEUNE" was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that approaching the 900 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of "GO TAIUT" thereby tightening that gelding in onto "CARACELLA" and "SKI MAGIC" resulting in "CARACELLA" and "SKI MAGIC" having to be checked. P. Sarlo had his permit to ride in races suspended for a period to expire at midnight May 22, 2002.

Race 6 - MAFFRA COMMUNITY SPORTS CLUB CUP 1200 metres:

Prior to the race "BOORTKOI MUSTANG" was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

When the gates opened "SPIDER BITE" jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and tightened "PLAYMAKER LASS" out onto "OUR KATE (NZ)".

Turning out of the straight "SPIDER BITE" and "ANIKA PRINCESS" were hampered when tightened for room between "HOBGOBLIN" and "ST. PADRAIG" which when overracing shifted in slightly.

Near the 1300 metres "BIO ACE (NZ)" and "IRONBARK MAC" had to be checked when tightened for room between "KOSMIKOS (NZ)" and "SHREWDLY DIFFERENT" (M. Goring) which shifted in slightly. The interference was aggravated due to "IRONBARK MAC" shifting out slightly and bumping "SHREWDLY DIFFERENT" on the hindquarters turning that gelding inwards. M.
