Rosehill (NSW) - Saturday 25 August 2001

Supplementary report:

Canterbury Park Sunday 19/8/01: Race 8 Sine Industries Superfecta 1900m:

C. Munce was found guilty of a charge under AR137(b) of having failed to ride out 7th placegetter, Vain Vigil, to the finish line. C. Munce was fined $400.

LATE RIDING CHANGES:

As B. Stanley was indisposed the following substitutions were made: Race 3 T. Jones on Gold Port; Race 6 B. York on Prince Of Play; and Race 8 C. Munce on Wry Hero.

RACE 1: Clubs NSW Club Keno Cup 1500m:

Benarber was slow to begin. Grand Success got its head up when being steadied off the heels of Speciality in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of Benarber revealed no abnormality.

RACE 2: Sydney Markets/Lidcombe RSL Handicap 2000m:

G. Buckley (Young Lang Syne) advised that his instructions were to be racing mid-field, but when trapped wide in the early stages he allowed Young Lang Syne to stride forward in an endeavour to obtain a position close to the rail, which he was able to do passing the 1400m. He added that he was of the view that the gelding did not appreciate being ridden in this fashion and did not finish its race off. When questioned concerning Kesia racing in the lead today D. Beasley stated that he had been under instructions to ride the mare back in the field, but Kesia commenced well and despite his efforts he was unable to restrain the mare, which overraced in the early and middle stages and weakened badly over the concluding stages. The instructions were confirmed by trainer Mr C. Waller, who indicated that Kesia had performed similarly in New Zealand over long journeys. He undertook to report if there was anything amiss with Kesia in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Kesia to be displaying a poor recovery rate. After the race it was noted that Dusky Beau had lost its off-hind plate.

RACE 3: Fairfield RSL Club Handicap 1500m:

Trainer Mr P. Wolsley was fined $50 for leaving a girth cover out of the gear for Royal Treen (AR140A). When questioned G. Boss (Manzeal) stated he was under no particular instructions but allowed Manzeal to settle back in the field. He added that the horse was not suited when the pace went off mid-race as Manzeal was left flatfooted when the race developed into a sprint home. He added that he endeavoured to push his mount in the straight and keep it balanced rather than to pull the whip, but Manzeal responded only fairly.

RACE 4: Mounties Sheraco Stakes 1100m:

Boston reared as the gates were released and lost ground. Picholine jumped awkwardly and then shortly after had to be checked when tightened for room between Vita and Planiceps, which shifted out. Picholine, Vita and Secret Liaisons had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight. Near the 200m Miss Zambezi, which was inclined to run in away from Arrabeea, had to be checked off the heels of Minnie Me (G. Boss), which shifted out under pressure. G. Boss was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make more effort to keep his mount straight. Vita, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Triko suffered a bleeding attack and will incur the automatic 3-month ban. D. McLellan (Magic Cheval) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 600m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Marlina resulting in Marlina clipping the heels of Magic Cheval and being hampered. D. McLellan was suspended from riding in races for a period of five meetings to commence on Friday 7 September 2001 and to expire on Monday 17 September on which day he may ride. The suspension is applied cumulatively to a suspension incurred at the Scone meeting on 21 August 2001.

RACE 5: Merrylands RSL Club Premier's Cup 1900m:

On Friday 24 August 2001 Stewards received a veterinary clearance for Mulan Princess, which was found to be mildly lame after finishing 6th at Warwick Farm in race 4 Toy Show Quality 1400m on Saturday 18 August 2001. Able Way ran out making the home turn taking Splendid Retreat out onto Consolidator. Mulan Princess was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.

RACE 6: Bankstown Sports Club Peter Pan Stakes 1500m:

Approaching the 200m Full Limit had to check off the heels of Industrial Fan, which was disappointed for a run to the outside of Prince Of Play. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Pimpala Warrior was lame in the near-fore leg. Trainer Mr G. Yorke was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced before Pimpala Warrior is permitted to race again.

RACE 7: Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club Concorde Stakes 1100m:

Following an inquiry of J. Cassidy's ride on Century Kid in the Premiere Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 11 August 2001 trainer Mr G. Rogerson was requested to give his instructions to J. Cassidy in the presence of the Stewards. Approaching the 100m Century Kid had to be steadied when tightened for room between Belle Du Jour, which was taken out by Matter Of Honour, and Adamantly, which was taken in by Lord Essex. When questioned concerning the performance of Century Kid J. Cassidy stated that with its big weight it did not show its anticipated early speed and then was obliged to race wide when Matter Of Honour did not cross to the fence in the run to the first turn. He stated that Century Kid, which was coming back in distance today, was never travelling comfortably and after receiving a bump from Matter Of Honour, which hung out approaching the 600m, his mount did not respond from that point. He added that whilst he suffered some interference at the 100m Century Kid was a beaten horse at the time. A post-race veterinary examination of Century Kid did not reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken. Trainer Mr. G. Rogerson undertook to report to the Stewards at Warwick Farm racecourse on Sunday 26 August 2001 the results of a full veterinary examination of Century Kid.

RACE 8: Smithfield RSL Club Superfecta 1200m:

King Of Acapulco was slow to begin. Sporting Scribe dipped approaching the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination of Veteran, which weakened after leading, revealed no abnormality.
