Handicap 1400m
Trainer Mr P. Quinn today advised that following Trackball
being found to be lame in the off-fore leg following the event it had been decided to
spell the gelding.
Canterbury Park Thursday 13 December 2001: Race 1 Lidco
& Titon Doors Handicap 1250m
Trainer Mr J. B. Cummings advised that a full veterinary
examination of King Hunt, which performed disappointingly, did not
reveal any obvious abnormalities and it had been decided to spell the gelding.
GENERAL:
The Stewards opened an inquiry into the evidence given by
App. N. Tomizawa after weighing in ½kg light on 5th placegetter Grampians in race
7 the TJF Group Christmas Quality Handicap at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 15 December
2001.
App. Tomizawa agreed that a pouch containing ½kg of lead,
which was found by club officials on the track past the winning post following the
meeting, had been used by him on that day.
App. Tomizawa was fined $500 after pleading guilty to a
charge under AR175(g) of having given misleading evidence to the Stewards.
App. Tomizawa was directed against carrying any item of
weight on his body as a means of making the weight.
RACE 1: Australian Event Services Handicap 1100m
McBride and Twilight Rose were slow to begin.
Making the first turn Continental Dane got its head
up and shifted out resulting in Soul Singer being hampered.
O'Venus was held up for a run in the early part of
the straight.
Soul Singer was held up in the early part of the
straight and approaching the 250m was taken across the heels of Jumeira by Continental
Dane, which shifted out.
Ravenswood and God Help Me had some
difficulty obtaining a clear run over the concluding stages.
Timidity was inclined to lay in under pressure over
the concluding stages.
A subsequent veterinary examination of Timidity did
not reveal any abnormality.
RACE 2: Lincoln Partners Handicap 1100m
Ouch and Mitra were slow to begin.
Near the 200m Aspen Grove had to change direction to
obtain clear running.
Near the 100m Night Before Dawn ducked in abruptly.
Miss Gilliland did not obtain clear running until
passing the 100m.
Kenatius was momentarily held up passing the 100m.
Ring That Bell was inclined to lay in and prove
difficult to ride over the concluding stages.
RACE 3: Ian Brown Handicap 1300m
Making the first turn Pacific Joy,
which improved inside the heels of Kalalycia, was taken in
slightly by that runner, which resulted in Spirit Of The Nite being checked.
Rounding the home turn Gwendolyn hung out
resulting in Coablo being checked when taken across the heels of Lismore.
RACE 4: Cabra-Vale Diggers' Superfecta 1500m
A veterinary examination of Airlie Bird,
which was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, passed the mare fit to start.
In the straight Trephina was inclined to get
its head up and was reluctant to take a tight run inside Our Lady Margaret, which
was commencing to give ground.
Close to the finish line Venere, which was
inclined to lay in, had to be steadied off the heels of Pratt's Miss,
which shifted out slightly.
A post-race veterinary examination of Red Baroness,
which finished at the rear of the field, revealed no abnormality.
G. Buckley pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b) of
having failed to ride 7th placegetter Recover out to the finish line. G. Buckley
was fined $300.
RACE 5: Silver Saddle Brasserie Handicap 1500m
Azraq jumped awkwardly.
Cybernetic and Carnegie Express,
which were slow to begin, came together shortly after the start.
Approaching the first turn The Ark got its head up
and ran out contacting the heels of Carnegie Express and was checked. At the same
point Dusty's Magic also had to be checked when tightened for room by Sir
Bollinger, which shifted in away from Azraq (A. W. Robinson),
which shifted in.
A. W. Robinson was advised to make more effort to keep his
mounts straight.
RACE 6: Diggers' Restaurant Handicap 2400m
The start was delayed when Time Off required farrier
attention behind the barriers.
Greentwig was slow to begin.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion Garina pulled
fiercely and had to be checked off the heels of Annalina Express for some distance
thereafter.
RACE 7: Do It At Diggers' Handicap 1400m
Approaching the first turn Le Splash and Mr. Dig were
buffeted for room and Le Splash struck the running rail when Mr. Dig shifted
in away from Destino's Diamond, which was overracing and got its
head up when being steadied off the heels of Missile Sam.
G. Boss (Trouble In Heaven)
stated that he stopped riding near the 200m when he was not happy with the gelding's
action and surmised that Trouble In Heaven had struck itself.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed Trouble In
Heaven sustained a small laceration to the inside of the hear-hind leg.
B. Pengelly stated that he was unable to offer any
explanation for the disappointing performance of Winning Brief.
A post-race veterinary examination of Winning Brief revealed
no abnormality.
Trainer Mr P. Webster undertook to report to the Stewards
the results of a full veterinary check, including the results of an endoscopic
examination.
An inquiry into the performance of Winning Brief was
adjourned pending that advice.
RACE 8: C. V. D. Function Centre Superfecta 1800m
Johnny Bravo pulled hard throughout the early and
middle stages.
At the 300m Eden Roc had to steady off the heels of Thunder
Run, which shifted out.
Close to the finish line A. W. Robinson had to stop riding
his Josiah, which shifted in under pressure.
A. G. Robinson, rider of 6th placegetter, Binnia Best,
was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out right to the finish line.
