Royal Randwick Handicap 1000m
Trainer Ms K. Moore was fined $50 for not presenting the
Document of Description for Spinning Con (AR59A).
Achievable was slow to begin and was hampered shortly
after the start when Magic Marvo shifted in.
On jumping Go Mist was hampered between Vital
Agreement and Spinning Con, both of which shifted ground.
Near the 600m Achievable had to steady off the
heels of Papal Prince, which was inclined to race greenly and
shift ground.
Passing the 200m Huit was momentarily tightened when
Vital Agreement, which was giving ground, shifted in.
J. Cassidy stated that Chatline was never travelling
on the bit and following its good trial performance was most disappointing today in its
failure to finish off its race.
Post-race veterinary examinations revealed Chatline and
Vital Agreement to be displaying poor recovery rates and elevated respiratory
rates. A swab sample was taken from Chatline. Mr N. Fraser-Campin,
representing trainer Mr G. Rogerson, undertook to report to the Stewards the results of a
full veterinary examination of Chatline.
RACE 2: Mandarin Club Handicap 1300m
A post-race veterinary examination revealed Superfine had
lost the near-fore plate in running.
RACE 3: Korea Racing Association Trophy 1550m
Abstained was a late withdrawal at 9.52am on veterinary
advice that the gelding was unfit to start.
Banker Under Fire was examined behind the barrier when
its rider, G. Boss, expressed concern regarding its action and was passed fit to start. A
veterinary examination of Banker Under Fire subsequent to the event did not reveal
any abnormality.
Gelignite Jack was slow to begin.
App. D. Evans (Gelignite Jack) was
severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 1000m resulting
in Wyngrove being checked (AR137(a)).
RACE 4: New Tel Handicap 1800m
Scale The Heights got its head up when being restrained
rounding the first turn.
Spirit Of The Nite was held up for a run until
passing the 200m.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed Two Time
Tart to be suffering heat stress.
After the running of this race the track was upgraded to
good at 2.55pm.
RACE 5: Star City Handicap 1300m
Magic Duck jumped awkwardly.
Laetitia and Bridgee Boo were inclined to get
their heads up and run out rounding the first turn. In this incident Treasure Time was
hampered.
Pixies was held up rounding the home turn and in the
early part of the straight.
Post-race veterinary examinations revealed Nepal,
which raced disappointingly, had lost the off-fore plate in running and was displaying
mild respiratory distress, Mozart's Pie was suffering heat stress, and Magic
Duck had suffered a laceration to its tongue.
RACE 6: City of Sydney Australia Day Cup 2400m
Lanolin was slow to begin.
When questioned, G. Boss stated that Lanolin slipped
at the start and as a result got further back than he intended. He added that nevertheless
he felt Lanolin had got within a length of the winner at the 200m and had its
chance to win the race, but did not find the line. When asked why, when the winner, Power
Of Pegasus, commenced to improve near the 600m he had initially
remained racing to the inside of the heels of Simigan and behind Jacovic,
G. Boss stated that he was taken by surprise when Power Of Pegasus sprinted
quickly. G. Boss was advised to be more alert in similar circumstances.
RACE 7: Macau Jockey Club Trophy 1400m
Norman's Way was slow to begin.
Approaching the first turn Cheverny had to be
checked when crowded for room by Hayden, which was taken in by Terrible
Taurus, which hung in despite the efforts of its rider.
Routine Blue and Summa Cum Laude,
which were following, were hampered in consequence.
Airlie Bird had difficulty obtaining clear running
in the early part of the straight.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed Cheverny had
sustained a small abrasion to the off-hind bumper. A swab sample was taken. When
questioned concerning the performance of Cheverny, trainer Mr G.
Walter stated that after receiving interference at the first turn and being held up in the
early part of the straight behind a wall of horses he felt that Cheverny then did
not give its best when asked for an effort in the straight. He added that it was now his
intention to step the gelding up in distance and endeavour to have it ridden in a more
forward position. Mr G. Walter undertook to report to the Stewards if there was anything
amiss with Cheverny in the days subsequent.
RACE 8: Endeavour Handicap 1300m
Cannonball Max, which sustained a
large abrasion to the off hip in the float en route to the track, was withdrawn on
veterinary advice at 3.11pm.
Almazam, which broke through the
barriers, was quickly restrained and passed fit to start by the club's veterinary surgeon.
Prince Hal stood flatfooted as the gates were
released and took no part. Mr S. Hodge, representing trainer Mr M. Lees, was advised that Prince
Hal must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before it is permitted to
race again.
Meet The Stars was very slow to begin.
Just Blitz 'Em was badly checked at the start when
crowded for room between Indian Cigar and Jimmy The Bear, which was taken in
by Perle D'Or.
