Track: Good

Supplementary report:

Royal Randwick Saturday 30 March 2002: Race 8: San Miguel South Pacific Classic 1400m:

Trainer Mr L. Freedman advised that following the race Barkada was found to be suffering from a quarter crack and that it had been decided to spell the gelding.

LATE RIDING CHANGES:

As J. Patton was indisposed B. Cooper was substituted as the rider of Galroof, and as M. Usher was injured L. Beasley was substituted as the rider of Norman's Way.

RACE 1: oneworld Plate 1800m:

A post-race veterinary examination revealed Spying Fur was lame in the near-fore leg. Trainer Mrs B. Joseph was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required before Spying Fur is permitted to race again.

RACE 2: oneworld P. J. Bell Handicap 1200m:

Palidamah was slow to begin. Donnadane shifted out at the start taking Moon Magic out onto Tyche. At the 900m Allez France shifted in away from Fleecing and had to be checked off the heels of Quam Cleeriter. L. Cassidy (Hanky Panky) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in passing the 900m resulting in Fleecing being hampered. At the 700m Quam Cleeriter had to be checked when tightened for room by Hanky Panky, which was racing tight to the inside of Galroof (B. Cooper), and Moon Magic, which was taken out slightly by Tyche. Allez France, which was following, was hampered in consequence. B. Cooper was advised that she must ensure that runners to her inside have the room to which they are entitled. At the 600m Allez France had to be checked when tightened for room between Palidamah (App. N. Tomizawa), which shifted off the fence, and Quam Cleeriter, which was taken in slightly by Fleecing (G. Boss). App. Tomizawa and G. Boss were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Rounding the turn at the 500m Tyche laid out, which resulted in Vita having to be checked when taken out onto the heels of La Lagune. Moon Magic and Hanky Panky, which were following, were checked in consequence. A subsequent post-race veterinary examination revealed Vita had been galloped on both hind legs.

RACE 3: oneworld Fernhill Handicap 1600m:

Addendum was slow to begin. Passing the 1200m Charlie Bub was taken out by Rustenberg, which shifted off the fence. Shortly after, near the 1000m, Barabella had to be steadied when Charlie Bub (S. Seamer) shifted back in. S. Seamer was advised to ensure he is clear when shifting ground. When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of Minority, C. Brown stated that his mount travelled well to the 600m, but when placed under pressure did not respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Minority to be displaying a poor recovery rate. A swab sample was taken.

RACE 4: oneworld Carbine Club Stakes 1600m:

Grand City was slow to begin. After initially being crossed by Sircarn Damon, which was taken out by Valkyrian rounding the turn at the 900m, Grand City then worked back up inside the heels of Sircarn Damon, which resulted in Grand City being tightened in onto Ares when Sircarn Damon shifted back to the one-out position. Approaching the 200m Valkyrian had to be steadied when Sircarn Damon shifted in away from Lady Cay. Britt's Best had to shift out across heels approaching the 200m to obtain clear running. Ares was held up for a run until near the 100m.

RACE 5: Lindemans Wines Sires' Produce Stakes 1400m:

Redwood Falls reared and became cast over the adjoining stall and on veterinary advice was withdrawn at 2.56pm. Subsequently it was directed that all bets on Redwood Falls be refunded and that all bets with bookmakers be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: traditional win and place: 2¢ win, 2¢ place, 4¢ quinella, 2¢ multiple doubles. Trainer Mr C. Conners was advised that Redwood Falls must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before it is permitted to race again. Saddler's Silk was slow to begin. Planchet shifted in at the start resulting in Athelnoth being taken in onto Dubai Ice, which was hampered. Athelnoth, which was inclined to race fiercely, had to be steadied off the heels of Planchet approaching the 1200m. Throughout the early and middle stages Choisir got its head up, was inclined to lay out and raced ungenerously. Dubai Ice had to be steadied back across the heels of Smash to obtain a clear run when that runner shifted out at the entrance to the straight. Saddler's Silk was badly held up for a run on the heels of Snowland over the final 200m. Choisir lost both foreshoes during running. D. Beasley (Victory Vein) stated that when his mount began awkwardly and Choisir, to his inside, jumped well, he made the decision to go back and ride Victory Vein from behind. When questioned, L. Beasley (Choisir) stated that his mount began well, but when he endeavoured to restrain it the colt got its head up, hung out and continued to fight him. He stated that eventually he allowed Choisir rein when he was unable to get it to settle. D. Beadman (Planchet) stated that he rode his mount along early so that he could clear Athelnoth and take up a position one off the fence. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Choisir had been galloped on behind. L. Beasley (Choisir) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 100m, which resulted in Calaway Gal having to check off the heels of Choisir and lose its rightful running. L. Beasley's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday 11 April 2002 and to expire on Thursday 25 April 2002 on which day he may ride. As L. Cassidy was indisposed J. Cassidy was substituted as the rider of Sibyl in race 7 and Domero in race 8.

RACE 6: oneworld Country Cup 1600m:

P. Graham (Serpentine) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in passing the 1400m resulting in Let's Jive being checked. After initially being taken in by Kingston Shores, Terrible Taurus ran in passing the 1400m resulting in Channon Magic having to be checked. A short distance later Serpentine had to be checked off the heels of Terrible Taurus. When Sir Avalanche crossed to the lead in front of Norman's Way at the 1200m, Norman's Way got its head up, shifted out and made contact with Dudley Do Right. When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of Terrible Taurus, C. Brown stated that his mount knuckled over badly on jumping, then got further back than he intended and did not respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Terrible Taurus was displaying a poor recovery rate. Trainer Mrs D. Poidevin-Laine will be interviewed relative to the performance of Terrible Taurus. A swab sample was taken. P. Graham (Serpentine) could offer no excuse for the poor performance of Serpentine. Trainer Mr R. Murrell undertook to report if there was anything amiss with Serpentine following the race. A post-race veterinary examination of Serpentine revealed no abnormality. P. Rowe (Vigilance) was fined $100 for the excessive use of the whip on a horse out of contention (AR137A).

RACE 7: oneworld Handicap 1200m:

Trainer Mr A. Bailey reported that Card Queen was found to be in season following its disappointing run at Canterbury Park on 20 March 2002. Trainer Mr E. B. Murray was fined $100 for the late declaration of a rider for St. Georgina (LR35). Aussiewaa and Count Albrecht were slow to begin. Foolish Things was hampered at the start when Majestic Fiesta shifted out. On jumping St. Georgina shifted out hampering De Valmont. A veterinary examination revealed Majestic Fiesta, which finished distanced, was displaying post-race cardiac irregularity. Trainer Mr R. Quinton was advised to report to the Stewards the results of a full veterinary check, including the results of an ECG, and also that Majestic Fiesta must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. It was reported that Magic Heights lost its off-fore plate in running. When questioned concerning Card Queen racing in the lead today, G. Colless stated that as the horse had been caught wide at its most recent starts from wide barriers he was under instructions to be more prominent. The Stewards will interview trainer Mr A. Bailey concerning the change in instructions.

RACE 8: oneworld Welter Handicap 1400m:

At the start Helsinborg shifted out hampering Trencher. Rounding the first turn Mr. Bureaucrat shifted in resulting Tyr being taken in onto Trencher. At the same point Knickerbocker Kid was inclined to overrace and shift out causing Galiano to be checked. After initially being taken in by Velsontas (C. Munce), Helsinborg shifted in away from that runner resulting in Hot Tin Roof being checked near the 200m. C. Munce was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he must make far more effort to keep his mounts straight.
