Quorn (SA) - Saturday 22 June 2002
Track: Good
Weather: Overcast
Rail: True

RACE 1 - SA BREWING/R. J. C. EVANS & CO/POWERSTATE CREDIT UNION MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 metres

The start of this race was delayed due to GHOST SPIRIT (A. Stead) and RIVIERA GEM (K. Louca) breaking through the barriers and galloping riderless beyond the perimeters of the racecourse. A. Stead and K. Louca were uninjured. As a result, both horses were withdrawn by Stewards at 1.20 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on GHOST SPIRIT and RIVIERA GEM be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 35 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 26 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.

Mr. G. Lesnikowski, Trainer of GHOST SPIRIT, was advised the filly was now suspended from racing for a period, until such time as it can prove tractable in an official trial, to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

MAYBE A MIRACLE (M. Henderson) was slow to begin.

MISS CHELSEA (S. Lovegrove) reared on jumping.

Over the concluding 300 metres SHOW CHARGE (B. Neville) showed a tendency to lay in and failed to finish the race off.

Subsequent to the event a Veterinary examination of SHOW CHARGE revealed the gelding to be sore in the lower back.

RACE 2 - LIVING HEALTH / DAVID LINKE / CROMBIE HAULAGE SABIS CLASS D HANDICAP – 1200 metres

OUR BUTTERFLY (J. Burgess) was slow to begin.

FREE MARKET (H. Gower) knuckled slightly at the start.

Subsequent to the event St. John Personnel attended Apprentice B. Neville, who was distressed and ruled unfit to ride for the remainder of the day.

RACE 3 – Q. R. / WESFARMERS LANDMARK / N.R.G. FLINDERS 2 Y & UP MAIDEN PLATE 1400 metres

Stewards allowed Marree Henderson to replace B. Neville as the rider of TARARI ANGEL when no other Apprentice was available.

FULL SPEC (A. Stead), which became extremely fractious in the gates and became cast, was withdrawn at 2.38 p.m. when A. Stead injured his knee and was unable to ride.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on FULL SPEC be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 36 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 30 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.

Mr. G. Lesnikowski, Trainer of FULL SPEC, was advised the filly was now suspended from racing for a period, until such time as it can prove tractable in an official trial, to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

DEVENEY (S. Lovegrove) was extremely slow to begin and missed the start several lengths.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres MISS CORVETTE (K. Louca) rolled in. As a result, FILL THE VOID (J. Burgess) became tightened and brushed the running rail.

Stewards questioned P. Rayner, rider of CLASSIC DANZIG, in relation to her lack of vigor on the gelding over the concluding 100 metres. P. Rayner reported to Stewards, over the concluding stages she believed the gelding’s run had come to an end and was not responding to the whip. For that reason she rode it out to the post in a hands and heels manner, the best she could. P. Rayner further stated, due to the lack of her race riding fitness she believed she was unable to be more vigorous on the gelding. After considering P. Rayner’s explanations, she was reprimanded and advised that in future she would be required to ride her mounts out to the finish in a positive manner.

Correct Weight was delayed due to R. Faehr rider of SPORTING JESTER, and Mr. M. Whittle, representing Trainer Mr. B. Dunn, to view the official photo-print for first. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, placings were verified and Correct Weight was declared.

St. John Personnel treated Apprentice A. Stead for a knee injury and ruled him fit to ride for the remainder of the meeting.

RACE 4 - CARLING FUEL DISTRIBUTORS QUORN CUP – 1900 metres

GRETROBY and POUND SHILLILNG were both withdrawn at 2.30 p.m. when there were no riders available.

Stewards questioned P. Rayner, rider of KING OF RUBITON, in relation to the riding of the gelding over the concluding 400 metres. P. Rayner advised Stewards the KING OF RUBITON showed a tendency to lay in and for this reason was unable to ride the gelding out in a more vigorous manner.

RACE 5 – UNDERDALE DRILING / J. LEVY & CO / FLINDERS RANGES COUNCIL CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

LINE OF GOLD was a late scratching at 2.30 p.m. due to no rider being available.

Correct Weight was delayed as S. Lovegrove, rider of DONTAINE, believed she was denied a fair start when, in her opinion, the gates were slow to open. After taking evidence from the Starter Mr. G. Osborn and the Steward in the vicinity of the start, Stewards were of the opinion the gates opened in a normal manner and Correct Weight was duly declared.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres R. Faehr, rider of ALARM BELLE, dropped his whip. R. Faehr was fined $50 under ARR 137(a) for Carelessness.
