RACE 1 – PARNETT MOGAS/SABIS MAIDEN PLATE:

CHEVITA was a late withdrawal at 10.45 a.m. by order of the Stewards.

Upon jumping away ELUSIVE (J. Potter) and ORIENTAL GIFT (H. McKechnie) bumped.

At the start STOPHER (J. Marks) was inconvenienced due to general shifting from that filly’s inside.

Shortly after straightening WEAK ELASTIC (M. Hoppo) was inconvenienced for a short distance due to ELUSIVE (J. Potter) shifting out slightly.

ORIENTAL GIFT (H. McKechnie) was eased out of the event over the concluding 200 metres.

A subsequent Veterinary examination of ORIENTAL GIFT revealed a fracture to its pelvis.

Mr. M. Hebberman, Trainer of ORIENTAL GIFT, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would have to be lodged before accepting for the filly for any future event.

RACE 2 – ALCOHOL GO-EASY CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

SANUR was a late withdrawal at 1.17 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice that she was unfit after the mare was fractious in the barrier gates and became cast.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on SANUR be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 12 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 11 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets were subject to the deductions.

Mrs. T. Dunn Foreman, representing SANUR’S Trainer Mr. D. Carrison, was advised a repetition of the mare’s behaviour may lead to action being taken.

Racing inside the 800 metres ECKMEK (Darren Holland) had to be eased when MISS COALPEPPER (H. McKechnie), which was showing a tendency to lay in, shifted in slightly.

ECKMEK (Darren Holland) was unable to obtain clear running in the straight and the mare was held up for some distance.

P. Gatt, rider of SPARKY’S HOPE the 4th Placegetter, lodged an objection against LADY OF THE HOUSE (C. Lindop) 3rd Placegetter, for alleged interference over the concluding stages of the race. After taking evidence from all parties, on their own observations and viewing the official video film of the event, Stewards upheld P. Gatt’s objection. The amended placings were:
First 5 TELL SECRETS (B. Claridge)
Second 7 MISS COALPEPPER (H. McKechnie)
Third 4 SPARKY’S HOPE (P. Gatt)
Fourth 3 LADY OF THE HOUSE (C. Lindop)

Over the concluding stages of the race LADY OF THE HOUSE (C. Lindop), which was showing a tendency to lay in, shifted in under riding, resulting in SPARKY’S HOPE (P. Gatt) being tightened and hampered, and taken in onto ESKAY BOY (M. Hoppo), which had commenced to weaken, resulting in ESKAY BOY being tightened and having to be eased.

C. Lindop was reprimanded by Stewards and advised of her obligations when shifting ground.

A swab sample was taken from TELL SECRETS, winner of the race.

RACE 3 – SMOKE-FREE FLYING HANDICAP:

Mr. P. Montgomerie, Trainer of JUST A FIRE, which proved difficult to load, was advised that a repetition of the gelding’s behaviour may lead to action being taken.

RACE 4 – ALCOHOL GO-EASY CLASS 5 HANDICAP:

In the vicinity of the 400 metres OXFORD COUNTESS (J. Potter) shifted out slightly; at the same time as DR. MABUSE (B. Vale), which had commenced to weaken, shifted in, resulting in CASH LOAN (C. Lindop), which was racing between those horses, being tightened and hampered for a short distance.

A Veterinary examination of CASH LOAN, subsequent to the event, revealed the gelding was short in its action from the front and also exhibited a slow recovery rate.

RACE 5 – SMOKE-FREE HANDICAP:

Upon jumping away MR. LOGICAL (J. Lorensini) and PRINCE LLAROO (J. Bowditch) bumped together.

TOP CHANCE (J. Potter) raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the event.

GRISWALD (H. McKechnie) raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.

PRINCE LLAROO (J. Bowditch) commenced to hang out severely from the 1200 metres, proved difficult to ride, and raced extremely wide until approaching the 800 metres.

Mr. D. Koch, Trainer of PRINCE LLAROO, was advised by Stewards that as the gelding had been warned at its previous start at Port Lincoln on 18th December 2001, for a similar occurrence, it was now suspended from racing for a period and until such time as it can prove in an Official Barrier Trial that it can race tractably.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres FRONT BEACH (P. Gatt) was accidentally struck on the head by the whip of W. Kerford, rider of RYKO.

RACE 6 – ALCOHOL GO-EASY CLASS 4 HANDICAP:Upon jumping away STAR OF RUBITON (J. Bowditch) shifted out, making contact with BROOKSIDE BELLE (J. Lorensini). As a result, BROOKSIDE BELLE shifted out, resulting in that mare making contact with ZOOMERATOR (B. Vale), who in turn shifted out, making contact with HECTIC (D. Wilson).

In the vicinity of the 200 metres BROOKSIDE BELLE (J. Lorensini) shifted in slightly under riding, resulting in MADAM MERLOT (B. Claridge) being tightened for galloping room and hampered for a short distance, and eventually shifting out to obtain clear ground.

J. Lorensini was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

A swab sample was taken from ZOOMERATOR, winner of the race.

RACE 7 – SMOKE-FREE CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

KYMORAY (Darren Holland) jumped away awkwardly and shortly after jumping was obliged to steady from the heels of SWAMP RAT (H. McKechnie), which shifted out slightly.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres KAILEY FALCON (W. Kerford) shifted out slightly, resulting RUSH OF ANGELS (B. Claridge) being hampered and taken out, making contact with ASTRO TRAVELLER (J. Burgess).

Racing to the 200 metres TRUBRIDGE (J. Lorensini), which had commenced to weaken, was inconvenienced when SWAMP RAT (H. McKechnie), which was showing a tendency to lay in, shifted in slightly.

Over the concluding stages of the event SWAMP RAT (H. McKechnie) continued to lay in under pressure, and was reluctant to come away from the heels of UNDERCHARGE GIRL (J. Potter).

A swab sample was taken from BAROLO, the 3rd Placegetter.

RACE 8 – REG KEMP REAL ESTATE/SABIS MAIDEN PLATE:

EYES OF AN ANGEL and COZARVY underwent Veterinary examinations at the barriers, prior to the start, which revealed that EYES OF AN ANGEL was sore in the off fore leg and COZARVY was sore in the near fore leg. As a result, EYES OF AN ANGEL and COZARVY were withdrawn by Stewards, acting on Veterinary advice, at 4.59 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on EYES OF AN ANGEL and COZARVY were to be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 36 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 28 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are not subject to the deductions.

MILITARY EDITION (L. Smith) jumped away awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres SHACK WINDOW (D. Wilson) shifted in, resulting in RUBY SAL (Darren Holland) having to be eased.

D. Wilson was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

Subsequent to the event Mr. T. Selfe, Trainer of RUBY SAL, reported to Stewards the filly had taken some time after the event to recover and in his opinion the filly may have swallowed her tongue. Mr. Selfe sought application to race RUBY SAL in a Tongue Tie in future events, which was approved.

Stewards questioned Mr. B. Clarke, Trainer of SHACK WINDOW, in relation to the seemingly improved effort in today’s race. Mr. Clarke reported that he had been happy with the gelding’s first up at Port Lincoln on 18th December 2001, when it had shown moderate pace and settled mid-field before tiring over the concluding stages of the event. He added that he had increased the gelding’s track work since its last run, which had been beneficial to the horse, and he had also swum SHACK WINDOW which he believed assisted in its fitness today. SHACK WINDOW had been working well, and he also believed the increase in distance today would benefit the gelding when it stepped up in distance. Mr. Clarke supported the horse in today’s race in his normal moderate way. Stewards noted Mr. Clarke’s explanation.

A routine swab sample was taken from SHACK WINDOW.
