The starting time of all races today were delayed one race, with Race 8 rescheduled to 5.24 p.m. due to the riding gear of several Jockeys failing to arrive on course at the required time due to plane delays.

RACE 1 – CARLTON DRAUGHT/SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD CLASS D HANDICAP:

The start of this race was delayed several minutes when CROWHAWK dislodged its rider D. Wilson en route to the barrier and galloped riderless for a short distance before being recaptured. CROWHAWK again proved reluctant to be taken to the barrier, resulting in a further delay. Following a Veterinary inspection at the start the gelding was declared fit to take its place in the field.

Mr. K. Drewitt, Trainer of CROWHAWK, was advised the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial before being accepted for any future races.

The start was further delayed when DIAD (M. Hoppo) proved difficult to load. Trainer Mr. D. Carrison was advised that DIAD must be loaded without delay in a Barrier Trial before being accepted for any future starts.

MISS ZUTPHEN (J. Lorensini) knuckled at the start, shifted in and bumped CROWHAWK (D. Wilson).

CLEAR ECHO (L. Smith) was slow to begin.

RACE 2 – LINCOLN SAND MAIDEN PLATE:

There was a slight delay at the start when EYES OF AN ANGEL had to be replated.

EYES OF AN ANGEL (S. Grivell) was slow to begin.

MONEY MAKES MONEY (H. McKechnie) jumped out at the start and bumped AMEN ROYALE (W. Kerford), which in turn shifted out and bumped TELL SECRETS (B. Claridge), which shifted out onto LUNA ROSSA (D. Wilson).

TELL SECRETS (B. Claridge) shifted out sharply when the mare shied at the finish post.

RACE 3 – CAPITAL CORP/SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE:

COZARVY (J. Lorensini) proved fractious in its barrier stall prior to the start.

GRAND TOURER (D. Wilson) was slow to begin and lost considerable ground.

DIGBURY (J. Bowditch) jumped out at the start and bumped DEMOLITION DAME (C. Lindop).

In the vicinity of the 200 metres COZARVY (J. Lorensini) showed a tendency to lay in and had to be steadied from the heels of BEAU INCA (B. Vale).

RACE 4 – 89.9 MAGIC FM CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

CONDOMINIUM (J. Bowditch) and AFTER THE FIRE (B. Vale) bumped at the start.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres SUNESSE (D. Wilson) shifted out and as a result BAROLO (C. Lindop) was inconvenienced.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres SUNESSE (D. Wilson) showed a tendency to lay in badly, forcing its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount.

RACE 5 – AUSTRALIA TIMBER PTY LTD/FORMEX CLASS 6 HANDICAP:

Subsequent to the race the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that MIGHTY HAWK had returned sore in the off fore leg.

RACE 6 – PORT LINCOLN STEEL INDUSTRIES HANDICAP:

The start was delayed several minutes due to a dog running freely on the track.

A routine swab sample was taken from GRISWALD, winner of the race.

MR. LOGICAL (J. Lorensini) jumped out at the start and bumped PRINCE LLAROO (S. Price).

S. Price, rider of PRINCE LLAROO, was questioned by the Stewards regarding the apparent poor performance of the gelding in today’s event. S. Price stated that after discussions with PRINCE LLAROO’S Trainer, Mr. D. Koch, it was decided to ride the gelding in a forward position in today’s event. However, after travelling a short distance in front S. Price reported that PRINCE LLAROO had commenced to hang very badly, which continued throughout the race, and had not appreciated CURIUM (B. Claridge), racing on its outside, applying some pressure during the event. S. Price further stated that when he asked PRINCE LLAROO for an effort prior to the home turn, the gelding had failed to respond to his riding. S. Price was advised his explanations had been noted.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of PRINCE LLAROO revealed the gelding had been very slow to recover following the event.

RACE 7 – MOBIL MORTLOCK CLASS 3 HANDICAP:

A routine swab sample was taken from SPRING DANCE, winner of the race.

FLAMING FOOTPRINTS (J. O’Connor) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres OXFORD COUNTESS (M. Hoppo) shifted in sharply and bumped AROUND THE RING (J. Bowditch).

LINE OF GOLD (L. Smith) raced wide throughout the event.

RACE 8 – KING’S HORSE TRANSPORT CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

PURAVALOUR (W. Kerford), which was kicked behind the barriers prior to the start, was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this event to allow Ms. C. Buchiw, rider of the 4th Placegetter UNDERCHARGE GIRL, to view the Stewards head-on Patrol film of the finish. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres MISS PUBLICITY (J. Bowditch) shifted in and as a result CALIFORNIA ROSE (C. Lindop) had to be steadied for a few strides.

J. Bowditch was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Over the concluding stages BROOKSIDE BELLE (L. Smith) shifted in sharply and as a result UNDERCHARGE GIRL (C. Buchiw) was inconvenienced for a few strides.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of MISS PUBLICITY revealed no visible abnormalities.
