RACE 1 – WEST END DRAUGHT 2Y&UP MAIDEN PLATE – 1600 metres

Upon jumping away MOLLY DOLLY (H. Gower) shifted out, brushing ACE A HEARTS (B. Vale).

TALUSE (A. Stead) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with NASTIVE EDITION (M. Neilson), resulting in that gelding being hampered. Shortly after TALUSE made contact with the hindquarters of DEVENEY (J. Potter), resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

In the vicinity of the 450 metres GO SPIDER (C. Bryant) shifted out to improve its position, making contact with ACE OF HEARTS (B. Vale) on two occasions, resulting in that gelding becoming unbalanced. C. Bryant was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

RACE 2 – SMOKE-FREE / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 metres

Upon jumping away CLAY ROSE (C. Bryant) jumped inwards, making contact with BEAU INCA (B. Vale).

BALTO (S. Lovegrove) was slow to begin and failed to stretch out in the early stages of the event and tailed the field throughout.

Racing to the 600 metres INGURAIN (K. Louca) shifted in slightly, resulting in LUPEE LULU (R. Faehr), which was showing a tendency to hang out, having to be steadied. Shortly after LUPEE LULU commenced to hang out severely and was eased out of the event rounding the home turn.

Approaching the winning post INGURAIN (K. Louca) shifted in under pressure, requiring that rider to stop riding and straighten the mare.

Subsequent to the event a Veterinary examination of BALTO revealed no visible abnormalities. Mr. B. Hatch, Trainer of BALTO, was advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding and it must be more competitive in future events, or action may be taken against it.

A Veterinary examination of LUPEE LULU subsequent to the event revealed the mare had minor swelling to its off fore fetlock. Mr. G. Dunn, Trainer of LUPEE LULU, was advised the mare was now suspended from racing for a period, until such time as it could prove in an Official Barrier Trial that it could race tractably.

RACE 3 – OLD WILLOWS BREWERY RESTRAURANT DISTANCE CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1850 metres

VOLTAGE RISING (W. Kerford) was slow to begin.

RACE 4 – KEITH FORD COMMUNICATIONS HANDICAP – 1200 metres

KENSARM (K. Louca) jumped away awkwardly.

LOLA suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the race. Mr. M. Whittle, Trainer of LOLA, was advised the mare was now suspended for a period of three months in accordance with ARR 53A. Mr. Whittle reported it would be his recommendation to the owners the mare now be retired.

RACE 5 – WESTSIDE VEGIE PATCH / WESTSIDE NEWSAGENCY CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

POWER FROM PORT lost its near hind plate during the race.

RACE 6 – MOBIL TRANSCONTINENTAL / SABIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

Stewards will inquire, at a later date, into the reasons for M. Hoppo not fulfilling his engagement on BUICK in this event.

C. Lindop was dislodged from BLIGHTY behind the barriers, and the gelding galloped a short distance before being recaptured. BLIGHTY underwent a Veterinary examination which revealed it was fit to take its place in the field. C. Lindop was uninjured.

Upon jumping away QUICK AND LIVELY (M. Neilson) shifted out onto BUICK (R. Faehr), who in turn shifted out onto I AM THE MAN (W. Kerford). In consequence I AM THE MAN made contact with EMMATINE (D. Tootell), taking that mare out, resulting in EMMATINE being tightened and losing its position.

Subsequent to the event B. Vale, rider of FREE MARKET, reported to Stewards the gelding had shown a tendency to hang out throughout the event. A Veterinary examination of FREE MARKET revealed the gelding had sustained a small laceration to its near hind leg, and was also exhibiting signs of a respiratory tract infection.

RACE 7 – McSPORRAN SPORTSPOWER / PORT AUGUSTA NEWSAGENCY HANDICAP – 1600 metres

Stewards permitted R. Faehr to replace A. Stead as the rider of JEALTS EXPRESS, when A. Stead reported concerns regarding track visibility.

Upon jumping away KING OF RUBITON (H. McKechnie) shifted in, making contact with ALL RISE (S. Lovegrove).

Racing to the 1200 metres ROYAL BELLOTTO (D. Tootell) shifted out slightly; at the same time as ADELAIDE EXPRESS (D. Azis) shifted in slightly. In consequence GRETROBY (B. Vale), which was racing between ADELAIDE EXPRESS and ROYAL BELLOTTO, was tightened for galloping room and forced to severely check the gelding and lose considerable ground.

Racing inside the 400 metres GRETROBY (B. Vale), which had commenced to weaken, had to be eased and lose its position when tightened by AROUND THE RING (J. Potter), which shifted slightly after being taken in by TEHRIER (H. Gower), which shifted in marginally.

RACE 8 – READYMIX CSR CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1500 metres

H. McKechnie, rider of SIMPLY SUAVE, which carried half a kilogram over its allotted weight, was fined $100 when that rider disobeyed a Stewards direction in relation to policy regarding Apprentices being unable to ride overweight.

In the vicinity of the 1300 metres FEAR REIGN (B. Vale) shifted in slightly, resulting in TARARI FOX (D. Azis) being inconvenienced.
