MILITARY POST was a late withdrawal at
12.44 p.m. when a Veterinary examination of the gelding behind the barriers revealed that
it was shin sore.
Stewards ruled that all monies invested on
MILITARY POST be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be
paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 25 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 19 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are not subject to the deductions.
REGAL RIPPLE (J. Potter) raced extremely
greenly in the early stages of the event and continually shifted ground.
Over the concluding stages BUSHER (C.
Lindop) showed a tendency to lay in under pressure.
RACE 2 BUNGALA ABORIGINAL
CORPORATION / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE 3YO & UP 1200 metres
When the gates were released TALUSE (J.
Burgess) and VIRGINIA RED (M. Neilson) dwelt slightly.
In the vicinity of the 200 metres CLASSIC
DANZIG (A. Stead) shifted out slightly, resulting in DEVENEY (S. Lovegrove) being
inconvenienced.
RACE 3 WEST END DRAUGHT
HANDICAP 1100 metres
GREY HEIREA (K. Louca) jumped away
awkwardly and shortly after the start had to be eased when PELIGRO (M. Neilson) shifted in
slightly.
J. Burgess, rider of STAR AGLOW, reported
to Stewards the gelding showed a tendency to hang out over the concluding 500 metres of
the event.
RACE 4 DEAN SHELVING
1850 metres
ALL RISE (S. Lovegrove) jumped away
awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
THE KALICI KID (J. Burgess) jumped away
awkwardly and threw its head in the air. The gelding continued to race ungenerously,
throwing its head about for some distance.
JEALTS EXPRESS (R. Faehr) was slow to
begin.
RACE 5 CURYER JEWELLERS CLASS
3 HANDICAP 1400 metres
Upon jumping away AMEN BEV (J. Burgess)
jumped inwards and at the same time CENTRAL VIC (B. Vale) jumped outwards, resulting in
EDVOKIA (M. Neilson), which was racing between those two horses, being hampered.
Racing to the 1000 metres EDVOKIA (M.
Neilson) shifted in slightly, making contact with AMEN BEV (J. Burgess).
HUG A MUG (J. Holder) was held up for a
clear run racing in the vicinity of the 500 to inside the 400 metres.
Rounding the home turn HUG A MUG (J.
Holder) shifted out onto CENTRAL VIC (B. Vale), which was showing a tendency to hang out.
In consequence EDVOKIA (M. Neilson), which was racing outside of CENTRAL VIC, was
inconvenienced.
M. Neilson, rider of EDVOKIA, dropped his
whip in the vicinity of the 350 metres. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by M.
Neilson.
A Veterinary examination of AMEN BEV,
subsequent to the race, revealed the filly had damaged a tooth and returned with blood in
its mouth, as a result of the filly having knocked its head in the barriers prior to the
start when extremely fractious.
RACE 6 SKILLSHARE PORT AUGUSTA
CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1100 metres
CLAY ROSE (M. Neilson) was slow to begin.
STAR REBEL (C. Bryant) knuckled over upon
jumping away.
STAR REBEL (C. Bryant) showed a tendency to
hang out in the middle stages of the event.
RACE 7 MILHINCH JEWELLERS
CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1500 metres
In the vicinity of the 1400 metres
TRUCENTS TOUCH (J. Holder), which began to race keenly, shifted out to avoid the
heels of SIMCEPT (J. Potter), resulting in EMMATINE (C. Bryant) being hampered and having
to be eased.
In the vicinity of the 450 metres KIRKALA
(S. Lovegrove), which had commenced to weaken, had to be eased due to MOLLY DOLLY (H.
Gower) rolling in slightly.
In the vicinity of the 100 metres LITTLE
MISS CINDY (W. Kerford) had to be eased when tightened due to WINESONG (M. Hoppo), on its
inside, shifting out slightly and at the same time MOLLY DOLLY (H. Gower), which was
racing on its outside, shifting in slightly.
