PATANGAR (S. Harrison) jumped away
awkwardly. S. Harrison reported the gelding had tendency to lay out between the 800 and
600 metres.
Racing to the 900 metres TILLISCORE (M.
Hoppo) had a tendency to over-race and get its head up.
RACE 2 KEN POLLARD MEMORIAL
MAIDEN PLATE 1600 Metres:
When the gates were released CRISP AIR (D.
Carney) shifted in, resulting in BULL CREEK BABE (J. Potter) being taken inwards,
inconveniencing CHEEKY ROSIE (M. Hagley) and HOT ISLE (P. Marks).
Racing between the 900 and 700 metres
CHEEKY ROSIE (M. Hagley) brushed the rail on several occasions.
Racing to the 300 metres AT THE FENCE (D.
Mittiga) had to be steadied in attempting a run on the inside of HOT ISLE (P. Marks),
which rolled in, making contact with AT THE FENCE. AT THE FENCE was further disappointed
for a run until straightening.
G. Hoobin, rider of TENNESSEE JOHN,
explained the gelding commenced to hang out from shortly after the start and he was unable
to ride the gelding out over the concluding stages due to it wanting to shorten its stride
and as it continued to lay in under pressure G. Hoobin was concerned with TENNESSEE
JOHNS action. A Veterinary inspection of TENNESSEE JOHN failed to reveal any
abnormalities.
RACE 3 WONGABEENA CLASS 1
HANDICAP 1100 Metres:
T. Barras, rider of MAYBE AMELIA, explained
that after jumping on terms with the field he was caught three wide and he was of the
opinion that to have gone forward would have used the mare up too much, and that to have
eased back would have been giving away too much ground to the other runners. A Veterinary
inspection of MAYBE AMELIA revealed that it was lame in the off fore knee and required
treatment.
RACE 4 GARTNER MEMORIAL
DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1700 Metres:
PURE GOLD STAR (G. Hoobin) was disappointed
for a run between the 600 metres behind OUR SPEED LINE (J. Potter), and racing to the
entrance to the straight was further disappointed when it had to be eased off the heels of
ON THE GROG (M. Hoppo).
RACE 5 SMOKE-FREE CHALLENGE
2002 (Heat 7) 1300 Metres:
ARCH FIEND (A. Peterson) jumped away
awkwardly.
Racing to the 1100 metres JAKEMO (J.
Dertilis) and GENERAL MAGIC (P. Marks) bumped.
Racing between the 600 to the 300 metres
GENERAL MAGIC (P. Marks) had to be steadied off the heels of OUR AVON (G. Hoobin) and ARCH
FIEND (A. Peterson).
RACE 6 KATNOOK ESTATE PENOLA
CUP 1700 Metres:

RACE 7 WEST END/SABIS CLASS 1
HANDICAP 1400 Metres:
SKAGNETTI was withdrawn by order of the
Stewards at 11.45 a.m., acting on a confirmed telephone call that the horse had been
injured when being loaded on the float.
HEALYS COMET (C. Buchiw) jumped away
very awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing ANTE MERIDIAN (G. Hoobin), which had been
slightly slow to begin.
Racing to the 1300 metres STAR OPERATOR (J.
Dertilis) shifted in when he was insufficiently clear of HEALYS COMET (C. Buchiw),
which resulted in that colt being taken in and hampering AMISTAD (M. Hagley), which in
turn made contact and brushed on several occasions with SPANISH STEPS (A. Peterson). J.
Dertilis was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar
circumstances.
Racing to the 200 metres BOURBON AND WATER
(J. Potter) rolled in under pressure and inconvenienced PERFECT CLEAVAGE (M. Hoppo). J.
Potter was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
Racing past the 1200 metres AMISTAD (M.
Hagley) had a tendency to hang out for the remainder of the race.
GENERAL:
Mr. G. M. Potter, representing
Trainer Mrs. B. Perry, was fined $100 under ARR 80C for leaving his horses unattended
during the day.
