1 CARRAILLS RRODUCE / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE:
Stewards ordered the withdrawal of
BACONERS SISTER at 12.02 p.m. when Trainer Mr. R. Gilcrist advised he was unable to
find a suitable rider for the mare.
The start of this race was delayed
approximately seven minutes due to SHELL SHIMMER (G. OLoughlin) rearing in the
barrier and undergoing a Veterinary inspection, which passed the mare fit to start.
When the gates were released AY TEA EM (G.
Hoobin) shifted out, which resulted in TREASURED EMPIRE (NZ) (L. Smith) being taken out
and having to be eased to avoid the heels of SHELL SHIMMER (G. OLoughlin).
Racing to the 800 metres AY TEA EM (G.
Hoobin) and TREASURED EMPIRE (NZ) (L. Smith) brushed.
Racing to the 400 metres PORT MAC (P Marks)
had a tendency to lay in, and as a result inconvenienced RULE BY CHARM (NZ) (C. Buchiw)
and COOL CONDIE (C. Lindop).
In the straight COOL CONDIE (C. Lindop) had
a tendency to lay out and as a result took RULE BY CHARM (NZ) (C. Buchiw) out onto PORT
MAC (P. Marks), which was inconvenienced.
RACE 2 ALL OCCASIONS KITCHENS
& CATERING MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division):
J. Potter replaced J. Julian as the rider
of MARRYS PRIDE, after a confirmed telephone call advising J. Julian was unfit to
ride.
EXPORT STYLE (L. Smith) jumped away
awkwardly.
NAZGALOV (S. Harrison) was slow to begin.
WORLDLY ROSE (P. Marks) was inconvenienced
due to MURILLA GORILLA (C. Buchiw) shifting in. As a result WORLDLY ROSE got its head up
and raced ungenerously.
C. Buchiw was advised to exercise more care
in similar circumstances.
Racing to the 1000 metres HONOR PREVAILS
(NZ) (G. OLoughlin) raced ungenerously and lost ground.
Racing to the 600 metres ROMANTIC LOUIE (T.
Barras) had a tendency to lay in and inconvenienced MARRYS PRIDE (J. Potter).
Near the finish line WORLDLY ROSE (P.
Marks) rolled in and at the same time CHESTERFIELD (G. Hoobin) laid out, resulting in
those horses brushing.
G. Hoobin, rider of CHESTERFIELD, was asked
to explain the reasons for him getting so far in front on the mare during the race. G.
Hoobin explained the mare had commenced very well. He was reluctant to attempt to ease her
due to the fact that she was regarded as a free running horse and also was inclined to
lose ground when eased. G. Hoobin further stated that CHESTERFIELD had travelled very
easily and he allowed her to stride freely. G. Hoobin was not aware that he had got as far
in front as he had, but due to the manner in which the mare was travelling, he was
unconcerned by the lead he had taken on the field. Mr. R. Kenny, representing Mr. M.
OLeary, did confirm G. Hoobins instructions, with respect to G. Hoobin not
easing CHESTERFIELD in the early stages of the race, but it had been the Stables
intentions for the mare to settle fourth or fifth during the run if possible. The
explanations tendered by G. Hoobin and Mr. Kenny were noted.
RACE 3 ALL OCCASIONS KITCHENS
& CATERING MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division):
A swab sample was taken from RED COLLEEN,
winner of the race.
Racing to the 1000 metres SCOOTERS
FLIGHT (C. Buchiw) shifted in and inconvenienced INTERFACE RAGE (L. Smith).
RACE 4 SAFRIES CLASS 3
HANDICAP:
Ms. Sue Jaensch, Trainer of PERFORMING
MINX, approached the Stewards requesting the rider of her mare, Lee Smith, not carry the
whip. Stewards agreed to that request and an announcement was made to that effect.
FIESTA SHOW (C. Lindop) jumped away
awkwardly and raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race.
Racing to the 100 metres FIESTA SHOW (C.
Lindop) laid out under pressure, and as a result FLICKS IMAGE (G. Hoobin) had to be
checked to avoid that geldings heels.
C. Lindop was advised to exercise more care
in similar circumstances.
RACE 5 AUSPINE KALANGADOO CUP:
Mr. Andrew Hoskyns, Trainer of PROVIDING
LIGHT, requested that while C. Buchiw carry her whip, her instructions were not to use it
on the gelding. Stewards agreed to that request and an announcement was made to that
effect.
A swab sample was taken from SPIRIT OF
DEMUS, winner of the race.
Shortly after the start JEALTS EXPRESS (D.
Tootell), which jumped away awkwardly, raced ungenerously.
JET EXPRESS (NZ) (D. Mittiga) was slow to
begin.
Near the 200 metres OLONGOPO (T. Barras)
laid in under pressure, and as a result inconvenienced RUBITON ROAD (C. Lindop), which was
further inconvenienced and had to be checked, due to SPIRIT OF DEMUS (S. Harrison) shifted
out under riding. After taking into account the circumstances, Stewards were unable to
attribute the incident to any one rider. However, Stewards did advise S. Harrison to stop
riding and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.
RACE 6 HEYWARDS ROYAL OAK
HOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP:
When the gates were released RORYS
ACE (J. Dertilis) was very slow to begin and then after the start attempted to buck.
Trainer Mr. W. Hill was advised that RORYS ACE would have to trial to the Stewards
satisfaction in an Official Barrier Trial before being accepted for a future race.
TKACHEV (S. Harrison) was slow to begin.
G. OLoughlin, rider of SOULMAKER
(NZ), explained that racing to the 1200 metres the gelding had commenced to over-race, and
as a result he was forced to race wider than he had intended to obtain a clear run.
Racing to in the vicinity of the 150 metres
A DODGE TIDE (G. Hoobin) had a tendency to lay in under pressure and as a result G. Hoobin
had to stop riding and straighten the gelding.
RACE 7 WEST END / SABIS CLASS
2 HANDICAP:
BLEVONIC (G. Hoobin) proved difficult to
load in the barrier.
Mr. G. Watts, Trainer of the BLEVONIC, was
advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding in respect to its barrier behaviour.
FLEET MASTER (G. OLoughlin) was slow
to begin.
Racing to the 700 metres QUICK CLASS (P.
Marks) inconvenienced RAP DIDDLER (C. Lindop), which in turn inconvenienced BLEVONIC (G.
Hoobin), which brushed the running rail and as a result BLEVONIC was reluctant to race
inside horses and lost ground.
RACE 8 KATNOOK ESTATE CLASS 3
HANDICAP:
Mr. T. Day, Trainer of ORMISTON, was asked
if he could explain the geldings improved performance as against its previous start
at Cheltenham. Mr. Day stated the race was run much more to ORMISTONS liking today
and he was also of the opinion that the 1600 metres was perhaps the geldings best
distance. Mr. Day further stated that at Cheltenham the horse had been reluctant to race
freely inside horses and he considered that the way todays race was run, with
ORMISTON being able to travel freely, without other runners around him, had suited the
gelding. Mr. Days explanation was noted. |
