RACE 1 – AAMI GREY CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1100 metres:

SAXONY GIRL (C. Buchiw) jumped inwards at the start and contacted FINAL MIST (W. Kerford).

In the vicinity of the 200 metres FINAL MIST (W. Kerford) shifted in under riding and inconvenienced AMA’S SON (Darren Holland).

T. Creek, rider of MYSTIC GREY, explained that although he was disappointed with the mare’s performance, the early pressure to MYSTIC GREY had not assisted his mount, considering that it was her first run from a spell. Subsequent to the race MYSTIC GREY was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

POWER FROM PORT lost its near hind plate during the race.

On pulling up J. Marks dismounted from POWER FROM PORT and was attended by Ambulance Personnel, owing to an asthma attack.

RACE 2 – AUIRON ENERGY TROPHY – About 1400 metres:

Prior to this event J. Marks was examined by the Club’s Doctor and ruled fit to ride.

PALAGIA (G. Dorol) was slow to jump.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres SECRET HAZE (S. Price) got its head up and was inclined to race ungenerously.

T. Creek, rider of SQUIRTLE, explained that although his mount had settled further back in running than he would have preferred, his mount had travelled well in running and trailed the eventual winner, SECRET HAZE (S. Price), mid-race. He added, from that position he felt the mare was entitled to have finished closer, however it had not responded to his riding and in his opinion had raced like a tired horse. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of SQUIRTLE revealed the mare was exhibited signs of tying up. Mr D O’Sullivan, Trainer of SQUIRTLE, confirmed the mare would now be spelled.

LUCY’S GIFT sustained a laceration to its off hind leg during the race.

RACE 3 – YALUMBA CLASSIC HURDLE – About 3600 metres:

All runners in this event were inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

WINSOME WILLY was withdrawn by Stewards at 8.05 a.m., acting on a confirmed advice from Trainer Mr. B. Burgess that the gelding was lame. Mr. Burgess was questioned regarding his failure to scratch in the required manner through Racing Services. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered.

Stewards questioned Mr. A. Freedman, representing Mr. D. L. Freedman Trainer of JOE BANANAS (NZ), regarding the late notification of rider for the gelding. Mr. A. Freedman was advised that a $50 fine would be imposed for failing to declare a rider by the required time.

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres, on the first occasion, SIR RITCHIE (M. Mills) shifted in and tightened SHUTAYR (P. Kelly), which was obliged to steady for a short distance.

MYSTIC OUTLAW (W. Harnett) hit the first hurdle in the straight on the first occasion and knuckled severely on landing.

Racing to the 1100 metres MASCAGNI (A. Garraway) shifted out, tightening CROWN DUO (NZ) (T. Hazlett) onto KAMAZAM (S. Pateman), which was taken out onto the hindquarters of SHUTAYR (P. Kelly), turning that gelding in. As a result CROWN DUO (NZ) was hampered and KAMAZAM was obliged to steady and lose its position. A. Garraway was severely reprimanded and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres WILSON ROAD (NZ) (C. Thornton) rolled in and momentarily inconvenienced SIR RITCHIE (M. Mills).

MYSTIC OUTLAW (W. Harnett) and JOE BANANAS (NZ) (G. Crofskey) were eased out of the event in the vicinity of the 600 metres.

Correct Weight was delayed to allow Ms. A. Beveridge, rider of BOXTER BLUE the fourth placegetter, to view the official footage in the straight. After doing so Ms. Beveridge lodged an objection against SIR RITCHIE (M. Mills) being placed third, on the grounds of alleged interference over the last 100 metres. M. Mills, rider of the third placegetter SIR RITCHIE, lodged an objection against the second placed WILSON ROAD (NZ) (C. Thornton), on the grounds of alleged interference in the vicinity of the 600 metres. After taking evidence from all parties, acting on their own observations and viewing the official footage, Stewards dismissed both objections.

MYSTIC OUTLAW sustained a cut to the near hind fetlock during the race.

Subsequent to the race MASCAGNI, VOODOO SUNSET and JOE BANANAS (NZ) were inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 4 – REX-LOK RAIL CLIP COUNTRY CUP – About 1900 metres:

Prior to the start JEALTS EXPRESS (D. Tootell) was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

SOGNARE (S. Price), which had been restless in its stall, was slow to jump.

Near the 800 metres PARINGA (J. Maund) got its head up for a short distance when being steadied away from JEALTS EXPRESS (D. Tootell).

At the entrance to the straight RICH THEME (J. Potter), which was inclined to lay out, had to be eased away from the heels of SOGNARE (S. Price).

On return to the enclosure CARNIVOROUS was found to be lame as a result of having pulled its near fore shoe off.

J. Holder, rider of JEUNE’S MARK, reported that his mount had been inclined to lay out throughout the race and in his opinion had stargazed and was not comfortable in today’s environment.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of PARINGA revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 5 – ADELAIDE BANK ONKAPARINGA CUP – 2150 metres:

Stewards questioned Mr. E. Musgrove, Trainer of GLOBAL AFFAIR (NZ), regarding the late notification of a rider for the gelding. Mr. Musgrove was subsequently fined $50 for failing to declare a rider by the required time.

M. Goring was notified as the rider of GLOBAL AFFAIR (NZ).

In the vicinity of the 200 metres DARK BANNER (J. Holder) was forced to check and lose its position when tightened by OXFORD DOLLAR (G. Dorol). G. Dorol was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday 6th April and to conclude at midnight on Wednesday 24th April 2002. A period of eight meetings.

Near the 1700 metres DARK BANNER (J. Holder) was inconvenienced when taken in by OXFORD DOLLAR (G. Dorol).

Over the concluding stages MR. SELBY (T. Creek) had difficulty in obtaining clear ground.

G. Dorol, rider of OXFORD DOLLAR, was questioned regarding his celebratory gesture on the finish line. G. Dorol was reprimanded and advised similar behaviour in future would lead to action being taken against him.

RACE 6 – CARLTON DRAUGHT GREAT EASTERN STEEPLECHASE – About 4950 metres:

All runners in this event were inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

MAYBE ROUGH (NZ) was withdrawn by Stewards at 10 a.m., acting on confirmed advice that the gelding had not recovered from an injury sustained in the Von Doussa Steeplechase on Saturday. Mr. Wheeler, Trainer of the gelding, was questioned regarding his failure to scratch in the required manner through Racing Services. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered.

Stewards questioned Mr. E. Musgrove, Trainer of DOBROYD (NZ), regarding his late declaration of B. Constable as the rider of the gelding. After considering Mr. Musgrove’s submission, Stewards took no further action.

HOSTLER (P. Daniel) jumped the obstacle in the straight on the second occasion awkwardly and became unbalanced on landing.

Leaving the straight on the second occasion BALLATA (W. Harnett) shifted in, tightening OUR PROFILER (NZ) (J. Riddell), onto NAUTILISM (C. Durden), which was obliged to check and lose its position. W. Harnett was reprimanded and advised in future to take greater care when shifting ground.

JARL (NZ) (A. Garraway) jumped the obstacle awkwardly near the 1300 metres on the last occasion.

NAUTILISM (C. Durden) knuckled on landing after jumping the fallen log on the last occasion.

At the entrance to the straight, in the final circuit, OUR PROFILER (NZ) (J. Riddell) shifted in onto HIBERNIAN PRINCE (R. Maund), resulting in both horses making contact. J. Riddell was advised of his obligations.

W. Harnett, rider of BALLATA, was questioned regarding his celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. W. Harnett was fined $200 in breach of ARR 137(c).

Subsequent to the race P. Daniel, rider of HOSTLER, reported that he had been struck in the face by an object mid-race and was disadvantaged for the remainder of the race. P. Daniel required an ambulance assistance immediately following the race and was later examined by the Club Doctor and found to have recovered.

Subsequent to the race HIBERNIAN PRINCE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was exhibiting signs of muscle tie-up.

RACE 7 – CLIPSAL HANDICAP – About 1400 metres:

Stewards questioned Mr. P. Seater, Trainer of ROMEO’S PRINCESS, regarding the late notification of a rider for the mare. Mr. Seater was subsequently fined $50 for failing to declare a rider by the required time.

D. Carney was notified as the rider of ROMEO’S PRINCESS.

DINKY BARRY (T. Creek) and OXFORD REGENT (J. Lyon) brushed on jumping away and as a result OXFORD REGENT was inconvenienced.

Near the 1200 metres MR. GWEILO (S. Price) was obliged to steady off the heels of KEDRON (L. Meech), which shifted in.

OXFORD REGENT (J. Lyon) got its head up and over-raced in the early stages of the event.

Near the 400 metres SKIIING (D. Azis) was obliged to steady, away from the heels of ROYAL REALM (Darren Holland), which shifted in.

At the entrance to the straight SKIING (D. Azis) rolled out and brushed KOODA HURRY (B. Claridge). Shortly after ROMEO’S PRINCESS (D. Carney), when attempting to improve outside the heels of KOODA HURRY, shifted out onto KEDRON (L. Meech), tightening that gelding onto MR. GWEILO (S. Price).

Racing to the 200 metres KOODA HURRY (B. Claridge) shifted out, tightening ROMEO’S PRINCESS (D. Carney) onto KEDRON (L. Meech), taking that gelding out onto the hindquarters of MR. GWEILO (S. Price), which was turned in, resulting in KEDRON having to be checked and losing its position. B. Claridge and D. Carney were advised that although not singularly responsible for this incident, they would be required in future to exercise greater care.

Subsequent to the race STORA BOLLAR was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was exhibiting a slow recovery rate.

RACE 8 – ALCOHOL GO-EASY HANDICAP – About 1050 metres:

Stewards questioned Mr. S. Webb, Trainer of MAGIC CLAUSE, regarding the late notification of a rider for the horse. Mr. Webb was subsequently fined $50 for failing to declare a rider by the required time.

C. Lever was notified as the rider of MAGIC CLAUSE.

HEARTEN’S MAGIC was withdrawn by Stewards at 10 a.m., acting on confirmed advice from Mr. J. Dunn that he had attempted to scratch the horse the previous day. Mr. Dunn was reprimanded and advised that similar occurrences in future may lead to action being taken against him.

STOCKADE BOY, which dislodged its rider (J. Potter) en route to the barrier, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon upon recapture and ruled unfit to start. Acting on that advice STOCKADE BOY was withdrawn at 4.54 p.m. J. Potter was uninjured.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on STOCKADE BOY be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 2 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 3 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.

DAYNA’S PRIDE (C. Buchiw) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out onto PRICE OF LOVE (M. Goring); at the same time as WHISTLING LASS (J. Marks) jumped inwards onto GRAND MANSION (L. Meech), resulting in PRICE OF LOVE and GRAND MANSION being tightened and hampered.

M. Goring, rider of PRICE OF LOVE, lost the use of his off-side iron on jumping away and did not regain the iron until just prior to entering the straight.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for DAYNA’S PRIDE (C. Buchiw) falling inside the 1000 metres. After taking evidence from M. Goring rider of PRICE OF LOVE, and B. Claridge rider of QUICK GAME, the inquiry was adjourned until a date to be fixed.

QUICK GAME sustained a laceration to its off hind pastern during the race.

DAYNA’S PRIDE, which sustained a haematoma under the chest and a laceration to the near side forearm during the race, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported general muscle soreness.

GENERAL:

All riders participating in today’s racing were subjected to breathalyser testing. B. Constable who provided a test registering a reading of .024 was found guilty of a charge under ARR 81A(i) and fined $400. As B. Constable was later able to provide two tests registering readings under the required level, he was permitted to take his mount in Race 6. B. Constable was further advised that as from 1st May the Australian Rules would become more precise regarding alcohol readings and was informed that future breaches of the Rule would result in a suspension being imposed.
