RACE 1 – ADELAIDE WOOL MAIDEN PLATE (Division 1)

ONLY THE FLAG (J. Julian) showed a tendency to lay out through the running of the race and racing at the 200 metres became unbalanced for a few strides when that gelding commenced to weaken quickly.

RACE 2 – LAWRENCES WATER SYSTEMS MAIDEN PLATE (Division 2)

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of RUBY SONG at 8.12 am acting on a confirmed telephone call that the mare was suffering soreness in both forelegs.

FULL ON RED (J. Julian) showed a tendency to pull very hard in the early stages of the race.

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this event to allow P. Marks, the rider of the third placegetter GOLDEN MILINA, to view the official head-on video film of the race. After doing so, in conjunction with the Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

Racing to the 200 metres DICEY REILLY (M. Neilson) laid out under riding resulting in GOLDEN MILINA (P. Marks) being inconvenienced, shifting out and bumping TRESPASSERS WILL (D. Yendall). M. Neilson was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

M. Hoppo, the rider of MOOKSTAR, placed fourth, was fined $100 under ARR 144 for failing to weigh in as required.

Mr. P. Day, the Trainer of ROMANTIC LOUIE, reported to the Stewards that the gelding had suffered an injury to its off side hind leg during the running of the race.

RACE 3 – NARACOORTE HOTEL/MOTEL CLASS 3 HANDICAP

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of KILLISTAFFORD at 8.12 am acting on a confirmed telephone call that the gelding had suffered some injuries when being loaded onto the float.

Whilst being placed in the barrier KELBOY (G. Hoobin) broke through the front of the stalls and was quickly restrained, underwent a veterinary inspection and declared fit to start.

On jumping away SCENIC GLOW (W. Kerford) jumped away awkwardly inconveniencing PROVEN TIES (C. Lindop) and TELL NO LIES (NZ) (S. Harrison).

A veterinary inspection of LANEMA following the running of the race failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A veterinary inspection of KELBOY following the running of the race revealed that the gelding’s recovery rate was slower than normal.

RACE 4 – DREW’S WORKSHOP / SABIS FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP

Racing to the 800 metres GALWAY SPARKLER (K. Post) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TUDOR ARMY (W. Kerford) when that mare went to the front and eased. As a consequence ALMIGHTY ZENA (P. Marks), which was racing ungenerously, got its head up and had to be eased to avoid the heels of GALWAY SPARKLER.

RACE 5 – SKYWORKS CLASS 2 HANDICAP

Racing from the 600 metres VELVET LAKE (J. Maund) was inconvenienced for some distance by GOLDEN KEEPER (M. Hagley), when that mare showed a tendency to lay in, and racing to the 300 metres GOLDEN KEEPER shifted in resulting in VELVET LAKE having to be eased. M. Hagley was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

RACE 6 – WRATTONBULLY WINE REGION SUMMER CUP

MAGESTIC HOPE underwent a veterinary inspection at the barrier and was declared fit to start.

Racing to the 1500 metres COSIPURA (P. Marks) commenced to over-race and had to be severely checked to avoid the heels of OCEAN RULE (W. Kerford).

M. Neilson, the rider of MATHESON BOY, was fined the sum of $50 for dropping his whip approaching the 600 metres.

RACE 7 – GREENLINE MOTEL / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of GINGA ‘N’ SPICE at 4.53 pm when that mare was unable to be loaded into the barrier without undue delay.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on GINGA ‘N’ SPICE be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 3 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 4 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.

Trainer, Mr. R. Modra, was advised that GINGA ‘N’ SPICE would have to trial to the Stewards’ satisfaction in an official barrier trial before accepting for a race again.

C. Bryant, the rider of BYE BYE BABY, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at the 400 metres, which resulted in OLD SEA SALT (W. Kerford) having to be severely checked and in consequence BORZOI DOLL (C. Lindop) and BOURBON AND WATER (B. Blacker) were inconvenienced.

J. Potter, the rider of BLUE BOYOU, was warned with respect to dropping his whip during the running of the race and was advised that a repetition could lead to action being taken against him.

Trainer, Mr. B. Hazelman, was asked if he could explain the poor performance of BON TRUCE. Mr. Hazelman was of the opinion that BON TRUCE was showing some signs of shin soreness and as a result this may have affected her performance. The Stewards ordered a veterinary inspection of BON TRUCE, which failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr. Hazelman was advised that a repetition of such a poor performance by the filly could lead to action being taken against it.
