Rail: Out three metres from the 830 to the 430 metres

RACE 1 – OAKBANK RACING CLUB HURDLE – 2806 metres:

Mr. W. Wintie, representing Trainer Mr. W. Tonkin, was questioned regarding the declaration of C. Maher as the rider of CURRENCY ROAD. Stewards considered evidence given by Mr. Wintie and will make further inquiries with C. Maher into the matter.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres on the first occasion, FAIRWAY GAME (H. Jenkins) was obliged to steady off the heels of RASTAQ (J. McMillan), which shifted in. J. MacMillan was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

CURRENCY ROAD opened an old wound on the near hind cannon during the race.

KILILIPI sustained a laceration to its off hind coronet during the race.

RASTAQ opened an old wound on its off hind cannon.

J. MacMillan, rider of RASTAQ, was questioned in regards to returning to Scale in excess of the weight at which he weighed out. J. MacMillan was fined $100 under ARR 145.

RACE 2 – ‘DUNDEE’S HOTEL & WILDLIFE PARK’ / SABIS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE – 1206 metres:

KALAHALO (K. Louca) was slow to jump.

JIVE ANGEL (J. O’Connor), which was inclined to lay out, shifted out making the turn into the straight.

DAME DUVESSA (S. Price) was disappointed when attempting to improve inside NOONETRON BELLE (Darren Holland), which rolled in, resulting in DAME DUVESSA being obliged to steady off the heels of JIVE ANGEL (J. O’Connor).

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of HILLVIEW RIDGE failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of MISS CHELSEA revealed the mare was slightly lame in the near fore leg.

RACE 3 – TAILEM BEND RACING CLUB COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE – 1206 metres:

SHACKLETON (P. Gatt) and UNFORGETTABLE (J. Potter) brushed on jumping away.

SAN SONATA (NZ) (G. Dorol) was inclined to race fiercely during the middle stages.

Making the turn in the vicinity of the 800 metres SEACOAL LANE (M. Neilson) was inclined to race greenly and shifted wider on the track.

Inside the 400 metres PRINCE BLEV (J. Holder) was unable to obtain clear ground.

Racing to the 300 metres PRINCE BLEV (J. Holder) in an attempt to obtain clear ground, shifted out and contacted SIR MAVARICK (W. Kerford) on several occasions.

Near the 200 metres SHACKLETON (P. Gatt) was inconvenienced by BILLY’S MY IDOL (K. Louca), which shifted out. K. Louca was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

MISTER VINTAGE lost its near hind plate during the race.

Subsequent to the race SHACKLETON was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

G. Dorol, rider of SAN SONATA (NZ) reported that he had injured his left knee during the race and after being examined by the Club Doctor he was ruled unfit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

RACE 4 – NEIL TANNER MEMORIAL 2Y & UP MAIDEN PLATE – 1406 metres:

CHEVALAE (D. Carney) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing TASHILADO (M. Neilson).

Near the 900 metres MARIZZIQUE (J. Bowditch) shifted in marginally, tightening SALEM (J. Potter), which was inclined to get its head up and race ungenerously, onto PICTURESQUE (W. Kerford), resulting in that filly being tightened, contacting the running rail and losing its position. J. Bowditch was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Subsequent to the race MISTER MAC was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was exhibiting signs that it may have choked down during the event.

RACE 5 – MOORES PLANT HIRE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 2206 metres:

Shortly after passing the winning post on the first occasion, JUNGLE JUNCTION (D. Tootell) got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance.

Subsequent to the race TASTE THE MAGIC was subjected to an endoscopic examination, which revealed the gelding to be suffering severe pharyngitis and suffered internal lung haemorrhage. Mr. J. Hickmott, Trainer of TASTE THE MAGIC, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before accepting for a future event. Mr. Hickmott advised the gelding would now be spelled before racing again.

RACE 6 – BARKER DRY CLEANERS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1006 metres:

The start of this race was delayed owing to JUST DO IT NOW requiring an adjustment to its bridle.

Near the 700 metres WINNING SPIRIT (P. Gatt) was obliged to check and lose its position when tightened by WILLY TELLS (NZ) (J. Bowditch), which improved inside the heels of REALITY’S DREAM (C. Lindop), while racing keenly.

Near the 100 metres WILLY TELLS (NZ) (J. Bowditch) was obliged to steady when inconvenienced by WINNING SPIRIT (P. Gatt), which shifted in.

P. Gatt, rider of WINNING SPIRIT, reported that although checked in running, the gelding had never travelled as well as he had expected. He added that in his opinion WINNING SPIRIT may not have been suited by the going, in particular when coming down the hill.

RACE 7 – ROBOT PRINTING CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1406 metres:

The start of this race was delayed owing to MANIHI PRINCE, which had been fractious in the barriers, becoming cast for some time in the superstructure. MANIHI PRINCE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who ruled the gelding unfit to start. Acting on that advice Stewards withdrew MANIHI PRINCE at 3.39 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on MANIHI PRINCE be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 4 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 5 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.

LITTLE MISS LINA, which was in the adjoining stall and SOACE, which had also been restless in the gates, were both examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

Near the 1000 metres CASH IN A FLASH (H. McKechnie) was obliged to steady off the heels of KYMATT (P. Gatt), which shifted in.

Inside the 800 metres LITTLE MISS LINA (C. Bryant) lost its position when tightened onto the running rail by CASH IN A FLASH (H. McKechnie), which had been taken in by YOUNG SMYTZER (S. Price), which was inclined to race greenly and shift about.

B. Vale, rider of ELLAWARREN LAD, lost his whip near the 400 metres. B. Vale was fined $50 for Carelessness under AR 137(a).

RACE 8 – MURRAYLANDS SECURITY CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1606 metres:

GORDON MACALMAN was withdrawn by Stewards at 2.08 p.m. acting on advice from the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon that the gelding was lame in the near fore leg.

On jumping away LORD JAPATO (NZ) (H. McKechnie) shifted out and contacted TEMPESTO (J. Potter).

RACE 8 – MURRAYLANDS SECURITY CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1606 metres – cont’d..

Inside the 700 metres RUSSIAN VAULTER (P. Gatt) lost its footing and became unbalanced.

Racing to the 300 metres LORD JAPATO (NZ) (H. McKechnie) shifted in and inconvenienced MR. JUNEE (D. Carney), which was obliged to alter course and shift out.

Subsequent to the race Mr. K. Sweeney, Trainer of BAY OF RED, advised the gelding had suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack. Mr. Sweeney was advised that BAY OF RED was now suspended from racing for a period of three months in accordance with AR 53A.
