RACE 1 BELLOTTO/SABIS MAIDEN
PLATE (1st Division):
Correct Weight was delayed in being
semaphored for this event to allow J. Bowditch, rider of 5th Placegetter SHIRAZ
NOW, to view the official film in the vicinity of the 600 metres. After doing so, that
rider lodged an objection against SIMONDE (D. Tootell) being declared the 4th
Placegetter, on the grounds of alleged interference racing between the 600 to in the
vicinity of the 400 metres. After taking evidence from all parties, on their own
observations and viewing the official video film of the event, Stewards upheld J.
Bowditchs objection, resulting in the amended placings being:
First 1 GIACOMO (S. Cahill)
Second 14 WORDLY WAYS (T. Creek)
Third 8 POLONAISE (P. Gatt)
Fourth 2 SHIRAZ NOW (J. Bowditch)
Fifth 9 SIMONDE (D. Tootell)
Racing inside the 600 metres SIMONDE (D.
Tootell), when racing fiercely, shifted out, resulting in SHIRAZ NOW (J. Bowditch) being
tightened for galloping room between that horse and LA PASSIONARA (S. Price), resulting in
SHIRAZ NOW having to be severely checked and losing its position. Stewards took no further
action, as they believed that no one rider was responsible.
RACE 2 TANNER CABINET MAKING &
JOINERY/SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division):
The start of this race was delayed
four minutes owing to BURNT PEAT rearing in its stall, resulting in the filly having to
undergo a Veterinary inspection, and being declared fit to take its place in the field,
and the tongue tie having to be adjusted on two occasions on VIVIENNE.
HILLS OF FIRE (D. Azis) jumped away
awkwardly.
SCENARAJA (M. Hoppo) and DUKATTI GREY (D.
Carney) were both slow to begin.
Shortly after the start PENTACLES (J.
Holder) commenced to buck for some distance, resulting in that rider being dislodged from
the mare. As a result, Ms. A. Williams Trainer of PENTACLES, was advised the mare was now
banned from racing for a period, until such time as it can trial to the satisfaction of
the Stewards. J. Holder suffered bruising to the right side of his body. As a result, J.
Holder was stood down from riding for the remainder of the day.
In the vicinity of the 600 metres BURNT
PEAT (K. Louca), which was racing ungenerously, shifted in slightly, resulting in BROCCI
(J. Maund) having to be eased. J. Maund reported to Stewards when being eased BROCCI
rolled in, brushing the running rail, resulting in the mare shifting out and across the
heels of BURNT PEAT.
K. Louca was advised by the Stewards that
although not totally responsible for the incident, he would be required to give riders on
his inside the room to which they are entitled.
RACE 3 HAPPY GIGGLE CLASS 3
HANDICAP (AUS v IRE SERIES):
Shortly after passing the winning post on
the first occasion, DELEGATE (T. Hazlett) shifted in, resulting in FIDDLERS GREEN
(G. Dorol) having to be eased. In consequence SHIGERU SHOBUSHI (P. Carberry), which had
been racing on the inside of FIDDLERS GREEN was also forced to ease in turn.
T. Hazlett was advised of his obligations
when shifting ground.
RACE 4 PACIFIC REAL ESTATE
COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP:
PEKOE (L. Smith) stood flat-footed as
the gates opened, resulting in the gelding losing considerable ground. Ms. Y. Forrest,
Trainer of PEKOE, was advised that a repetition of the geldings behaviour could lead
to it being banned for a period.
In the vicinity of the 1100 metres LINE OF
GOLD (T. Creek) showed a tendency to shift out, resulting in IKAROS (S. Cahill) being
taken out onto MANILOW (J. Bowditch). At the same time CASH EXCHANCE (D. Cleaver) shifted
in slightly, resulting in BRIGHT ROCK (J. Maund) being taken in onto MANILOW. As a result
of these movements MANILOW was forced to ease and lose its position. Stewards took no
further action as they believed that no one rider was responsible.
In the vicinity of the 600 metres BRIGHT
ROCK (J. Maund) was forced to ease off the heels of LINE OF GOLD (T. Creek).
RACE 5 BREAST SCREEN SA FREE
MAMOGRAM CLASS 5 HANDICAP:
NOBLE WIN was accidentally struck over the
head by the whip of D. Tootell, rider of INDI STAR, in the vicinity of the 100 metres.
RACE 6 KINGS HORSE TRANSPORT
CLASS 3 HANDICAP:
D. Tootell replaced J. Holder as the rider
of I KEN.
In the vicinity of the 1300 metres LAWFUL
POKER (D. Mittiga) shifted in, when insufficiently clear of JEZARICH (G. OLoughlin),
resulting in that mare having to be eased and in doing so clipped the heels of LAWFUL
POKER, resulting in G. OLoughlin almost being dislodged.
D. Mittiga was subsequently charged with Careless
Riding under ARR 137(a), and after being found guilty of the charge was suspended from
riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Thursday 9th August and
for a period to expire at midnight on the 25th August 2001. A period of three
Metropolitan Meetings.
RACE 7 MOHAWK LODGE/SABIS
FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP:
L. Smith replaced J. Holder as the rider of
AMACLASE.
Racing inside the 1000 metres BRIANNA
BLONDIE (W. Kerford) shifted in slightly, resulting in LADY GLENLEIGH (J. Bowditch)
shifting in and away from that horse. In consequence WALAMA (NZ) (C. Buchiw), which had
been racing on the inside of LADY GLENLEIGH, was inconvenienced.
RACE 8 MURRAY ELECTRICAL
MAIDEN PLATE:
D. Tootell replaced J. Holder as
the rider of RIMULA.
FEAR REIGN (D. Cleaver) showed a tendency
to over-race in the early and middle stages of the event.
Racing inside the 100 metres FREE WORLD (P.
Gatt) shifted out under riding, resulting in VISIBLE HALO (S. Cahill) having to be eased
to avoid the heels of that gelding.
P. Gatt was subsequently charged with Careless
Riding under ARR 137(a), and after being found guilty of the charge was suspended from
riding in races for a period to commence to midnight on 11th August and to
expire at midnight on 18th August 2001. A period of one Metropolitan Meeting.
P. Gatt was advised by Stewards that his
impeccable record, and the Stewards belief that the interference fitted the new sentencing
criteria adopted by Stewards as from 1st August, led to the one Metropolitan
suspension.
GENERAL:
M. Hoppo was fined $100 under LR 97(a),
which relates to the failure to pay a previous fine imposed.
Ms. R. Day was fined $100 under ARR
160B(2), which relates to the use of a mobile phone in the Scales Area |
