RACE 1 WILLOW POINT SABIS
TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1400 metres
The start of this was delayed owing
to PIPKIN proving difficult to load. Mr. B. Brook, Trainer of the filly, was advised that
similar behaviour in future would lead to action being taken against it.
Near the 500 metres POWER TO RULE (J.
OConnor) shifted out and brushed CARNDONAGH (T. Creek), which shifted away and
inconvenienced MAKING THE ROAD (J. Lyon).
Approaching the 400 metres JUST VIC (S.
Price) shifted out abruptly and as a result POWER TO RULE (J. OConnor) was obliged
to check severely. As a result of his mounts shift, the saddle on JUST VIC shifted
to the inside, resulting in S. Price being disadvantaged for the remainder of the event.
RACE 2 CLIPSAL HERITAGE COLTS, GELDINGS &
ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division) - 1200 metres
The start of this was delayed due
to Trainers registering a protest at a Murray Bridge Racing Clubs decision not to
provide race books free of charge.
CASHWIN (J. Lyon) jumped out and
inconvenienced MASH UNIT (Darren Holland) on jumping away.
Near the 900 metres SOUND TYCOON (P. Gatt),
while being restrained, was obliged to shift out and away from the heels of BILLYS
MY IDOL (K. Louca), resulting in SOUND TYCOON brushing DEFINING (B. Claridge).
Inside the 900 metres NAME IT (M. Neilson)
got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance.
GREG (J. Potter) was inclined to lay in
under pressure in the straight.
Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
examination of MASH UNIT revealed no visible abnormalities.
RACE 3 CLIPSAL 2000 SERIES
COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division) 1200
metres
On jumping away SAN SONATA (NZ) (P.
Gatt) shifted out onto COLORADO EXTREME (B. Claridge), taking that gelding out and
hampering SENDIN ME GREY (M. Neilson).
BROCCOS SON (J. Bowditch) jumped
outwards, tightening DEVARAJA DAAN (S. Cahill), onto ASTRAL VENTURE (J. Maund), resulting
in DEVARAJA DAAN being inconvenienced.
Near the 1000 metres ASTRAL VENTURE (J.
Maund), which got its head up and commenced to race ungenerously, shifted out and
contacted SAN SONATA (NZ) (P. Gatt).
Shortly after entering the straight BLUE
ZODIAC (D. Cleaver) was disappointed for a run, when taken in by SAN SONATA (NZ) (P.
Gatt).
Approaching the 200 metres SAN SONATA (NZ)
(P. Gatt) shifted in and brushed REKORB (T. Creek).
Over the concluding stages SAN SONATA (NZ)
(P. Gatt) raced greenly.
RACE 4 CLIPSAL SLIMLINE SABIS
THREE-YEAR-OLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 metres
APTEGAL (S. Cahill) and SEACOAL LANE
(J. Holder) were slow to jump.
J. Holder, rider of SEACOAL LANE, was
questioned regarding his returning to Scale over the weight at which he had weighed out.
After considering the evidence tendered, Stewards reprimanded J. Holder and advised him
that in future he would be required to return to Scale at the same weight as he weighed
out.
On being returned to the Enclosure APTEGAL
collapsed. An examination by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon revealed the gelding had
suffered an internal haemorrhage.
Subsequent to this event, Stewards
downgraded the Track Rating to DEAD.
RACE 5 CLIPSAL DATACOMMS CLASS
2 HANDICAP 1600 metres
DUKATTI GREY (D. Carney) was slow to jump.
GO SPIDER (C. Bryant) jumped away awkwardly
and shifted out, tightening SHES OUR GAZA (M. Hoppo), onto CIELO LAHA (J. Lyon). As
a result SHES OUR GAZE clipped the heels of GO SPIDER and lost its position.
Inside the 500 metres MARIZZIQUE (M.
Neilson) shifted out and tightened RUBITON ROYALE (J. Potter), which had commenced to
weaken, onto UNBRIDLED LAD (S. Price), unbalancing that gelding. M. Neilson was advised to
ensure there was sufficient room when attempting runs in future.
Shortly after entering the straight NAFIR
(NZ) (J. Maund) had difficulty obtaining clear ground.
When questioned regarding the apparent
disappointing performance of UNBRIDLED LAD, S. Price explained the gelding had travelled
well during the race and he was pleased with his position approaching the entrance to the
straight. However, he stated that after straightening he felt UNBRIDLED LAD had not
responded as strongly as he would have expected and that under pressure he had failed to
respond to his riding and commenced to shorten his stride. He added that after the race he
had noticed the gelding had made respiratory noise. A Veterinary examination of UNBRIDLED
LAD revealed the gelding to have an upper respiratory problem.
Subsequent to the race MANIHI PRINCE and GO
SPIDER were examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible
abnormalities.
RACE 6 CLIPSAL INTEGRATED
SYSTEMS SCENEMASTER CLASS 3 HANDICAP 900 metres:
Stewards questioned S. Price in
relation to him being unable to make the allotted weight on EASY PICK. Stewards accepted
the explanation tendered, however advised S. Price that future infringements may result in
a penalty being imposed. J. Potter was permitted as the rider of EASY PICK, owing to no
suitable Senior Rider being available.
LIKE ALESHIA (J. OConnor) jumped away
awkwardly.
PRINCE OF REVELRY (P. Gatt) was slow to
jump.
In the vicinity of the 800 metres BACARDI
AND DRY (B. Claridge), which was inclined to lay in, shifted in, taking QUEEN MIDAS (M.
Neilson) in onto EMINENCY (B. Vale), which was inconvenienced and obliged to steady off
the heels of QUEEN MIDAS.
Near the 800 metres ADDITION (Darren
Holland) was hampered when obliged to steady off the heels of EASY PICK (J. Potter), which
shifted in, at the same time as RAMEN (N. Tomizawa), which was racing greenly, rolled out.
J. Potter was advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.
At the entrance to the straight ADDITION
(Darren Holland) shifted out and brushed BACARDI AND DRY (B. Claridge). Shortly after
ADDITION was disappointed for a run when taken in by BACARDI AND DRY, which shifted back.
Approaching the 200 metres EASY PICK (J.
Potter) was held up for a short distance.
Inside the 200 metres M. Hoppo, rider of
CULLEN BAY, lost the use of his off side rein and failed to regain it.
Approaching the 100 metres EASY PICK (J.
Potter) was disappointed when attempting a run inside CULLEN BAY (M. Hoppo), which shifted
in, at the same time as QUEEN MIDAS (M. Neilson) rolled out.
Near the 100 metres BACARDI AND DRY (B.
Claridge) was inconvenienced when obliged to steady away from ADDITION (Darren Holland),
which shifted out.
RACE 7 CLIPSAL INDUSTRIAL
SABIS FILLIES & MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 metres:
LADY NEENA (P. Gatt) knuckled on
jumping away.
Approaching the 1200 metres GINGA
N SPICE (B. Vale), which was inclined to race ungenerously, was obliged to
steady off the heels of TASS (N. Tomizawa), which shifted in. N. Tomizawa was reminded of
his responsibilities.
In the vicinity of the 1100 metres FRENCH
BELLE (B. Claridge) was obliged to steady and lose its position, when tightened by
SUNTURWASI (J. Holder), which rolled in, at the same time as ACT SURE (M. Hoppo), while
being restrained, shifted out.
Approaching the 900 metres GINGA
N SPICE (B. Vale), which continued to race ungenerously, was tightened by MISS
DANGER (M. Neilson), which was inclined to lay in.
RACE 8 PIERLITE LIGHTING SABIS
FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 metres:
The start of this race was delayed
owing to OH SO SOFT (NZ) refusing to be loaded. OH SO SOFT (NZ) was withdrawn by Stewards
at 4.25 p.m. Mr. J. Gask, Trainer of OH SO SOFT (NZ), was advised the filly was now
suspended from racing, until such time as it could load without delay in an organised
trial.
Stewards ruled that all monies invested on
OH SO SOFT (NZ) be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be
paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 29 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 20 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.
AVARUBY (D. Carney) jumped away awkwardly
and shifted in abruptly, tightening SAVILLES ANGUISH (T. Creek), taking that filly
in onto DAME DUVESSA (S. Cahill), at the same time STENOWN (J. Potter) shifted out onto
DAME DUVESSA, resulting in that filly and SAVILLES ANGUISH both being hampered.
Inside the 600 metres SAVILLES
ANGUISH (T. Creek) was inconvenienced by GOLD QUILL (J. Bowditch), which rolled in.
When questioned regarding the apparent
disappointing performance of SAVILLES ANGUISH, T. Creek explained that his mount had
been severely hampered on jumping away and this resulted in him being back in the field.
He stated that SAVILLES ANGUISH lacked confidence and had not been comfortable
inside other runners, although he had been able to make ground in the middle stages. After
getting momentarily tightened near the 600 metres, he added that he had placed the mare
under pressure approaching the turn and despite his efforts it had failed to respond to
his riding. T. Creek further stated that in hindsight he felt SAVILLES ANGUISH had
not been comfortable in the going. Stewards advised this explanation would be noted. A
Veterinary examination of SAVILLES ANGUISH revealed no visible abnormalities.
T. Creek was also asked to explain his
riding of SAVILLES ANGUISH over the concluding 200 metres. He explained that in his
opinion his mount had commenced to shorten stride and was not responding to riding
approaching the 200 metres, and he had not continued to pressure it thereafter. In
conceding his explanation to be substantiated, T. Creek was nevertheless advised that in
future to ride his mounts to the finish of the race as required.
