Rail: Out one metre from the 400 metres to the winning post

RACE 1 – BROADWAY MELODY TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 metres:

PRICELESS (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.

TYRFING (Damien Holland) was slow to jump.

Near the 700 metres CLASSICAL ROCK (T. Creek), which was inclined to race greenly, became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly, across the heels of HYPERSONIC (J. Maund).

D. Carney, rider of MISS SCHACCI, reported the filly was inclined to lay out throughout the race.

RACE 2 – GOOD MORNING MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division) – 1400 metres:

MULTI WIN (T. Creek) was inclined to get its head up and race ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the event.

Approaching the 400 metres RIP ‘EM OFF (Darren Holland), which had been inclined to lay out, shifted out and was obliged to steady off the heels of MULTI WIN (T. Creek), as that gelding rolled in.

Inside the 400 metres DEMONDO (J. Maund) was obliged to steady off the heels of HILTON CROWN (M. Hoppo), which rolled in. At the same time IOTA OF LUCK (J. Potter), which had been momentarily held up, shifted out, away from the heels of DEMONDO, resulting in PATAGONIA (C. Lever) being obliged to check and lose its position. J. Potter was advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

IOTA OF LUCK sustained a laceration to its near side hind fetlock during the race.

RACE 3 – MAKE ‘EM LAUGH MAIDEN PLATE – 1400 metres:

PHANTASMIC (C. Lever) jumped away awkwardly.

BETTA FORTUNE lost its near hind plate during the race.

Mr. D. Clarken, Trainer of FOX HELIOS, was questioned regarding an apparent improvement in the gelding’s performance and an apparent change in riding tactics. Mr. Clarken explained that at its previous two starts, when ridden off the pace, FOX HELIOS had proven difficult to manage and had fought its rider on both occasions.

He stated that he had requested Apprentice J. Lyon to attempt to lead in an effort to get FOX HELIOS to settle and race comfortably. Stewards noted the explanation tendered and advised Mr. Clarken that in future he would be expected to notify them of a change in race tactics.

RACE 4 – YOU WERE MEANT FOR ME MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division) – 1200 metres:

On arrival on course STRUCK was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported the gelding to be sore in the near fore tendon. Acting on that advice Stewards withdrew STRUCK at 12.07 p.m.

DELTA CLOUD (J. Maund) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering SIMONDE (J. Holder).

Inside the 800 metres DELTA CLOUD (J. Maund) was forced to steady to avoid the heels of SIMONDE (J. Holder), which shifted in.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres MIDDLE PRINCE (S. Cahill) was held up and was then unable to obtain to clear ground until the 100 metres.

W. Kerford, rider of STAAR TOFF, explained that after entering the straight the gelding was inclined to lay in badly and he had difficulty getting it to shift out, away off the heels of DELTA CLOUD (J. Maund). Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of STAAR TOFF revealed the gelding was lame in the off fore fetlock.

RACE 5 – SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN 3-Y-O CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 metres:

EBONACE was withdrawn by Stewards at 11.15 a.m., acting on advice from Stable Foreman Mr. T. Dabernig that the filly had sustained injuries when being loaded on the transport.

ARGENT LANE (T. Creek) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering BO BEST (J. Holder).

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres SHE’S WONDERFUL (B. Claridge) shifted in, taking FULFILMENT (J. Maund) in onto ARGENT LANE (T. Creek), which reacted away and became unbalanced. Shortly after SAHAYB (NZ) (S Price) was obliged to steady off the heels of COMPENDIUM (Darren Holland), which shifted in.

Inside the 300 metres ARGENT LANE (T. Creek) was held up.

Approaching the 200 metres COMPENDIUM (Darren Holland), which had been held up, shifted out, resulting in BO BEST (J. Holder) being disappointed when attempting a run between COMPENDIUM and FULFILMENT (J. Maund). As a result, BO BEST was taken out onto FULFILMENT, tightening that filly against the hindquarters of HER HONOUR (D. Tootell), which became unbalanced. Darren Holland was advised to take greater care when shifting ground.

Inside the 100 metres ARGENT LANE (T. Creek), in obtaining clear ground, shifted out and brushed MADRID (B. Vale).

RACE 6 – LINA LAMONT CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1000 metres:

Inside the 900 metres MISS CROWN (B. Claridge) was obliged to steady when tightened by TOMONDE (W. Kerford), which shifted in.

Inside the 700 metres NATALAMI (Damien Holland) was obliged to steady off the heels of MISS CROWN (B. Claridge), which rolled in.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres MISS CROWN (B. Claridge) shifted out and inconvenienced SOULS (D. Carney), which was taken out in consequence. B. Claridge was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Inside the 100 metres NATALAMI (Damien Holland) was obliged to steady when tightened by ESPRIT de FURY (J. Lyon), which had been taken in by MISS CROWN (B. Claridge).

Over the concluding stages PRIVATE AGENDA (P. Gatt) was inclined to lay in under pressure. P. Gatt reported the colt had not responded when put under pressure in the vicinity of the 200 metres and it was his opinion this was due to lack of race experience.

Subsequent to the race PRIVATE AGENDA was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the colt exhibited a slower than normal recovery rate.

RACE 7 – YOU ARE MY LUCKY STAR CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1200 metres:

T. Creek replaced D. Tootell as the rider of SOVEREIGN ECHO. D. Tootell, who had been engaged for SOVEREIGN ECHO and MISSION TIME in this event was questioned as to the reasons for him being doubly engaged. After taking evidence from D. Tootell, Mr. W. Bogarts (Trainer of SOVEREIGN ECHO) and Mr. T. Simounds (Trainer of MISSION TIME), Stewards ruled that D. Tootell should ride MISSION TIME and he was fined $100.

DISCO KID (W. Kerford) and OIL CAN ANNIE (Darren Holland) were slow to jump.

Near the 800 metres EL VANA (P. Gatt) was obliged to check and lose its position when racing between ALENKO (J. Holder) which was inclined to race ungenerously and roll out, and SHORTAZ (J. Lyon) which shifted in and away from DISCOUNTER (B. Claridge).

Inside the 400 metres KYMATT (S. Price) shifted out and brushed EL VANA (P. Gatt), which was inconvenienced.

Racing to the 300 metres SHORTAZ (J. Lyon) was disappointed when attempting a run between DISCOUNTER (B. Claridge) which rolled in, and JACK OF SPADES (J. Potter) which rolled out.

Approaching the 200 metres DISCO KID (W. Kerford) was disappointed when attempting a run between OIL CAN ANNIE (Darren Holland) on its outside, and EL VANA (P. Gatt) on its inside, which shifted out. As a result, DISCO KID was unable to obtain clear ground until inside the 100 metres.

CAPTIVATE YOU (T. Barras) hung out after leaving the back straight until the entrance to the straight. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of CAPTIVATE YOU failed to reveal any visible abnormalities. Mr. D. O’Leary, Trainer of CAPTIVATE YOU, was advised that a repetition of the mare’s manners may lead to action being taken against it.

FANTASIES sustained a laceration to the near fore pastern during the race.

When questioned regarding the apparent disappointing performance of DISCO KID, W. Kerford explained that his mount had been slow to jump as expected and had been ridden forward in an attempt to take up a position mid-field. He stated that DISCO KID had given ground in the downhill run to the turn and although disappointed for a run and held up at various stages in the straight, the gelding had disappointed him when he had finally got clear. W. Kerford added that in his opinion DISCO KID may not have appreciated racing inside horses. Mr. D. Butler, Trainer of DISCO KID, advised the gelding had pleased him in its work and in the stable leading up to the race. Stewards advised W. Kerford and Mr. Butler their explanations would be reported. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of DISCO KID failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

J. Potter rider of the 4th Placegetter JACK OF SPADES, and Darren Holland rider of the 5th Placegetter OIL CAN ANNIE, were both fined $100 for failing to weigh in as required under ARR 144.

RACE 8 – DON LOCKWOOD CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1600 metres:

J. O’Connor was notified as the rider of RATHER GAZE.

Inside the 200 metres ARMOUR (Darren Holland) was obliged to steady away from SADLER JOH (P. Gatt), which shifted out.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres JUNGLE JUNCTION (D. Tootell) was held up when unable to obtain clear ground.

RACE 9 – PEWSEY VALE RIESLING MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division) – 1200 metres:

On jumping away A MOONFLEET AFFAIR (B. Claridge) was tightened and lost its position as a result of INCUS (S. Price) shifting in and SHE’S OUR GAZA (M. Hoppo) shifting out.

Near the 900 metres A MOONFLEET AFFAIR (B. Claridge) was forced to check and lose its position when tightened by SHE’S OUR GAZA (M. Hoppo), which was inclined to shift away when taken in by DATAI (Darren Holland), which rolled in.

Inside the 200 metres BIDDYUP (D. Cleaver) became held up when tightened onto the heels of INCUS (S. Price) by ZACCIO DAN (NZ) (S. Cahill), which shifted in.

C. Lever, rider of SUMMER HAVEN, reported the filly had been cautious of other runners during the race.

Correct Weight was delayed to allow P. Gatt, rider of FIRE OF YOUTH, to view the official Stewards footage of the concluding 600 metres. After doing so Correct Weight was duly declared.

After passing the finish VILLAGE BOY (J. Potter) shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with FIRE OF YOUTH (P. Gatt).

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of SUMMER HAVEN revealed the filly had become excessively stirred up.

COMPOSE suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the event. Mr. D. Pannell, representing Trainer Mr. J. R. Hawkes, was advised that COMPOSE was now suspended from racing for a period of three months in accordance with ARR 53A.

BO BEST, ORTHOPAEDIC, OTTOBELLO, SAHAYB, SCENARAJA, ARGENT LANE, EXALTED BEAU, HER HONOUR, LAWFUL POKER, FRENCH REVOLUTION, FINE STEM, JUNGLE JUNCTION, SADLER JOH, LEAD ON, RATHER GAZE & ENHANCER.
