RACE 6 HEALTH PROMOTION SA
OPEN HANDICAP:
UMANOOLA (D. Mittiga) stood
flat-footed when the gates were released and missed the start by several lengths.
Stewards questioned Ms. M. Hagley, rider of
PROVIDING LIGHT, and also the geldings Trainer Mr. A. Hoskyns, into its performance
today. Ms. Hagley stated the gelding commenced to hang out at the turn near the 900
metres, and despite her attempts she was unable to bring PROVIDING LIGHT to race closer to
the rail. In the home straight PROVIDING LIGHT continued to hang and finished extremely
wide on the track. As a result of PROVIDING LIGHT still hanging Ms. Hagley was unable to
ride the gelding out in her normal manner. Mr. Hoskyns did advise Ms. Hagley, prior to the
race, the gelding had shown a tendency in its races to hang out marginally.
A Veterinary examination of PROVIDING
LIGHT, subsequent to the event, revealed no visible abnormalities.
Mr. A. Hoskyns was advised by Stewards that
a warning had been placed on PROVIDING LIGHT and if the gelding continued to hang in the
manner that it did today, action may be taken against it.
A routine swab sample was taken from
BITASTED, winner of the event.
RACE 7 SUNSMART CLASS 2
HANDICAP:
Racing to the 400 metres STAFF PARTY (NZ)
(L. Smith) was disappointed for a run inside RAP DIDDLER (K. Post), and had to be steadied
from that geldings heels.
Stewards questioned Ms. M. Hagley rider of
DOLLAR DAZZLER (NZ), and the geldings Trainer Mr. B. Richardson, into the riding
tactics of DOLLAR DAZZLER (NZ) in todays event. Ms. Hagley stated that she was
advised that as DOLLAR DAZZLER (NZ) was an extremely big gelding, and had previously shown
a tendency of striking its hind legs, particularly around bends, it would be beneficial
for the gelding to be ridden in a wide position. For this reason Ms. Hagley had elected to
race DOLLAR DAZZLER (NZ) extremely wide on the track for the entire race. Mr. Richardson
could not confirm these particular instructions, but did advise Ms. Hagley the gelding was
to be ridden in a forward position on the pace, which in fact Ms. Hagley did carry out.
Ms. Hagley was severely reprimanded by Stewards and advised that in future, in similar
circumstances, she was to use more initiative in placing her mounts in a position on the
track that would not be detrimental to their overall chances.
Mr. P. Preusker, Trainer of RAP DIDDLER,
was fined $50 for the late lodgement of a rider for the gelding.

advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding and a repetition would lead to
action being taken against it.
JUST DO IT NOW (M. Hoppo) jumped away
awkwardly and raced fiercely in the early stages of the event.
In the vicinity of the 500 metres GUM SAAN

a tendency to shift out, having to be checked from the heels of GOLDEN KEEPER (P. Marks).
