Track: Good
Weather: Mainly Fine
Rail: True

RACE 1 – NEWFLOOR SIGNATURE VINYL HURDLE:

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of TOO EASY at 12.22 p.m., acting on advice that Jockey J. Evans was unable to attend the race meeting due to a vehicle breakdown, and there was no other rider available to replace him.

WELL STAMPED (P. Kelly) was slow to begin.

GHOST LIKE (W. Williams) hit the hurdle at the 1000 metres and lost ground.

PITT BOSS KISS (NZ) (J. Wallace) flattened the hurdle at the 600 metres and became unbalanced for a short distance.

Trainer Mrs. H. Frew was warned that should WELL STAMPED fail to be more competitive in its hurdle races action may be taken against it.

RACE 2 – POLYFLOR VINYL MAIDEN PLATE:

After arriving on course Mr. L. Maher, Trainer of JARRAH, requested a Veterinary inspection of the gelding, and after doing so the Veterinary Surgeon declared JARRAH fit to start.

Racing to the 200 metres STAR OPERATOR (J. Dertilis) hung out and as a result that rider had to stop riding and straighten the gelding, which continued to hang out over the final 200 metres of the race.

RACE 3 – GODFREY HIRST CARPETS / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE:

DMITRY (P. Marks) was slow to begin and that gelding was also hampered on jumping away by MIL LEL (S. Harrison), which shifted out abruptly.

Shortly after the start BIG MOVE (B. Payne) rolled in, inconveniencing ELTON’S ROSE (C. Lindop).

BIG MOVE (B. Payne) continued to race greenly to the 700 metres and inconvenienced DEAL AN ACE (K. Post).

OLD DUNCAN MAC (B. Blacker) raced greenly over the final 200 metres of the race.

RACE 4 – CARPET COURT CLASS 4 HANDICAP:

PORT CAMPBELL (P. Marks) jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 5 – REDBOOK CARPETS CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of CAPTIVATE YOU at 2.49 p.m., when that mare had failed to arrive on course.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on CAPTIVATE YOU be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 31 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 21 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are not subject to the deductions.

Subsequent to the event a Veterinary inspection of PINE MIST failed to reveal any abnormalities, apart from a minor abrasion to its off side hip as a result of brushing the barriers on jumping away.

RACE 6 – CUB CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

G. Hoobin was fined $100 for doubly engaging himself on PURE GOLD STAR and OUR SPEED LINE.

When the gates were released PRINCESS ROSSE knuckled over and dislodged D. Missen. D. Missen was uninjured.

ANTE MERIDIAN (L. Meech) was slow to begin.

RACE 7 – SMOKE-FREE CHALLENGE 2002 (Heat 5):

JAKEMO (C. Puls) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 500 metres STRETTA (J. Potter) shifted out, making contact with CLAYTONDYER (D. Yendall), resulting in that gelding shifting out. J. Potter was reprimanded for shifting ground when not entitled to do so.

BONTARRI lost its near side hind plate during the running of the race.

RACE 8 – BRIDGESTONE AIRSTEP UNDERLAY/SABIS MAIDEN PLATE:

COMIC WARRIOR (J. Potter), OUR POET (B. Payne), YURIATSYN (J. Julian) and LEGAL GOLD (K. Post) were all slow to begin.

Racing to the 900 metres COMIC WARRIOR (J. Potter) raced very ungenerously and lost ground.

Approaching the 700 metres AMIROVITCH (J. Dertilis), which was racing very ungenerously, had to be checked to avoid the heels of PRIDE’S ARMY (D. Missen) when that gelding rolled out, and shortly after AMIROVITCH was hampered as it shifted out, across the heels of OUR POET (B. Payne), which also had a tendency to shift in at that stage of the race.

C. Lindop, rider of AYRFORDMAN, reported the gelding had a tendency to lay in severely over the final 200 metres of the race and as a result she was unable to ride it out in her normal manner.

S. Harrison, rider of DESERT COMMANDER, reported to Stewards the gelding had its tongue over the bit, over the final 200 metres of the race.

K. Post, rider of LEGAL GOLD, explained to Stewards that he failed to ride the filly out to the finish of the race, as he was not satisfied with the manner in which the filly was racing. A Veterinary examination of LEGAL GOLD failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.
