Mount Gambier (SA) - Thursday 16 August 2001
Track: Heavy
Weather: Raining
Rail: Normal

RACE 1 – GEBHARDT REAL ESTATE HURDLE

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of KAAT at 11.35 am acting on advice from that mare’s trainer that J. Wallace, the declared rider for KAAT, would not be available to ride. An inquiry into the reason for J. Wallace failing to fulfill his riding engagement was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

A swab sample was taken from RHYDDERCH, winner of the race.

ABSTAINING TIGER (Jamie Evans) jumped the running rail, racing to the 2250 metres and failed to complete the course. Mr. J. Tarin, trainer of ABSTAINING TIGER, was advised that the gelding would have to pass a satisfactory hurdle trial before being accepted for a race again.

RHYDDERCH jumped the hurdle at the 1900 metres awkwardly and as a result that gelding’s rider, J. MacMillan, became unbalanced for a short distance.

RACE 2 – CARLTON DRAUGHT DISTANCE CLASS 3 HANDICAP

On passing the winning post on the first occasion SUPER SUNRISE (M. Hagley) rolled out and as a result inconvenienced FIERY SPOT (D. Yendall), which also had a tendency to race ungenerously for a short distance.

RACE 3 – THE BORDER WATCH / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (Division 1)

CHEEKY ROSIE (J. Barnett) was slow into stride when the gates were released.

RACE 4 – THE BORDER WATCH / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (Division 2)

LUCKY VEINE (B. Blacker) and TARCOOLA JACK (K. Post) both jumped away awkwardly.

ARMS RAISED (C. Bryant) was slow to begin.

Racing to the 700 metres TARCOOLA JACK (K. Post), which was showing a tendency to race ungenerously, was inconvenienced due to CASAVON (D. Yendall) rolling in and at the same time BRIDGEWATER BAY (J. Barnett) rolling out.

Racing to the 500 metres ARMS RAISED (C. Bryant) showed a tendency to hang out and finished wide on the track.

RACE 5 – HOTONDO HOMES COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 2 HANDICAP

After the field had jumped from the barrier a running rail at approximately the 800 metres became dislodged due to the strong winds. As a result of the rail being dislodged the field had to race wider at the 800 metres to avoid the running rail which had fallen onto the track.

Subsequent to the running of the race, Stewards carried out a track inspection with the Course Curator and confirmed that all the running rail had been secured and it was safe to continue racing.

RACE 6 – BOC GASES CLASS 2 HANDICAP

No report.

RACE 7 – PEEWEENA HORSE AGISTMENT HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from GENERAL MAGIC, winner of the race.

RACE 8 – BERNIE FLOOD MAIDEN PLATE

Mr. P. Chow, trainer of MISS LIM, was fined $50 under LR 35 for failing to have a correct stable return lodged for that mare by the required time.

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of RHYVALI at 3.46 pm acting on veterinary advice that the mare had swelling in its near side knee and fetlock.

P. Marks, rider of MISS RAFFERTY, was charged under ARR 137(b) with failing to ride that filly out to the finish of the race, which, in the opinion of the Stewards, may have affected the placings. Upon being found guilty P. Marks was fined the sum of $500.
