STAMFORD GRAND ADELAIDE HURDLE:
NAZGALOV (P. Kelly) was slow to begin.
DRINKWATER fell at the obstacle at the 600
metres. J. Hateley, rider of that gelding, was uninjured. A veterinary inspection of
DRINKWATER revealed that it had suffered some minor lacerations as a result of the fall.
P. Ryan, trainer of MIGHTY MARCANO, was
fined $100 for engaging an unregistered person to strap the gelding.
RACE 2 CARLTON & UNITED
BREWERIES / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division):
C. Lindop replaced P. Marks as the
rider of TURFGATOR owing to a misunderstanding in the booking of P. Marks.
Racing to the 800 metres RULE BY CHARM (NZ)
(L. Smith) had to be eased due to FULL ON RED (J. Julian) shifting ground.
RACE 3 STAMFORD PLAZA ADELAIDE
/ SABIS MAIDEN PLATE:
Racing to the 400 metres HONEYED (D.
Yendall) had to be eased and shifted outwards to avoid the heels of BAG OF PEARLS (K.
Post).
Racing to the 300 metres LORRAINES
GIFT (W. Kerford) showed a tendency to lay out and at the same time BAG OF PEARLS (K.
Post) rolled in resulting in those horses bumping.
L. Fartch, the trainer of ELTONS
ROSE, was asked to explain to the Stewards why that filly had raced in this race without
blinkers when he had sought permission and lodged a stable return to race the filly in
blinkers. Mr. Fartch explained that he had applied for blinkers for the filly and had
forgotten to present ELTONS ROSE to race in that gear. After considering all the
evidence the Stewards fined Mr. Fartch $100 under ARR 140A for being negligent in
presenting that filly to race in the incorrect gear.
RACE 4 STAMFORD PLAZA ADELAIDE
DISTANCE CLASS 4 HANDICAP:
BASANK (S. Dunn) was slow to begin.
As the gates were released STORMY CHALLENGE
(P. Marks) shifted out and as a result PANNING FOR GOLD (M. Hoppo) and TRUE AS (D.
Mittiga) were inconvenienced.
Racing to the 1800 metres PORT CAMPBELL (M.
Evans) had to be eased and lost ground due to LUCKY VEINE (S. Harrison) being
inconvenienced by ALL BLACK SYMPHONY (C. Robertson).
Racing to the 900 metres LUCKY VEINE (S.
Harrison) became unbalanced, brushed the running rail, shifted out and brushed BREAK ME
SHAKE ME (C. Bryant), which had rolled in.
RACE 5 STAMFORD PLAZA ADELAIDE
CLASS 2 HANDICAP:
Correct Weight was delayed in being
semaphored for this event to allow the connections of HEART RENDING to view the official
photo finish of the race. After doing so, in conjunction with the Judge and Stewards,
Correct Weight was declared.
SUMMER WIND (D. Yendall) was slow to begin.
Racing to the 200 metres GALWAY SPARKLER
(K. Post) shifted out and inconvenienced SCENIC GLOW (M. Evans).
Over the concluding 100 metres BELKELSEY
(L. Smith) and AMELON (C. Puls) were both unable to obtain sufficient galloping room to
obtain clear runs.
RACE 6 STAMFORD GRAND ADELAIDE
CLASS 1 HANDICAP:
After arriving at the barrier OUR
SPEED LINE dislodged its rider, S. Harrison, and broke away. OUR SPEED LINE was recaptured
shortly after by the Clerk of the Course and returned to the barrier where a veterinary
inspection of the filly declared it fit to start.
On arrival at the barrier MURILLA GORILLA
underwent a veterinary inspection and was found to be suffering some lameness in its near
hind leg. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of MURILLA GORILLA at 3.09 pm, acting on
veterinary advice.
Stewards ruled that all monies invested on
MURILLA GORILLA be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face
value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 15 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 15 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.
Before being loaded in the barrier OUR
SPEED LINE dislodged S. Harrison and threw itself to the ground. Stewards ordered the
withdrawal of OUR SPEED LINE at 3.10 pm to prevent any further delay to the start of the
race.
Stewards ruled that all monies invested on
OUR SPEED LINE be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face
value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 15 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 15 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.
As a result of these incidents, the start
of this race was delayed several minutes.
Mrs. H. Frew, trainer of OUR SPEED LINE,
was advised that the filly will have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an
official barrier trial before accepting for a race again.
Racing to the 500 metres KARNAK (M. Munday)
had to be eased off the heels of VAIN CARLEY (T. Barras), which was taken out slightly by
EL FAYZE (M. Evans).
RACE 7 STAMFORD HOTELS &
RESORTS HANDICAP:
No report.
RACE 8 STAMFORD GRAND ADELAIDE
CLASS 3 HANDICAP:
K. Post replaced J. Julian as the rider of
RUBYCEE due to J. Julian being overweight. J. Julian was fined $100 under ARR 120B.
K. Post, rider of RUBYCEE, and L. Smith,
rider of NORTHERN CASTLE, were both reminded of their obligations in respect to weighing
in over their declared weight.
RACE 9 CARLTON & UNITED
BREWERIES / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division):
J. Julian replaced S. Harrison as the
rider of KINCOY due to S. Harrison being incorrectly shown in the race book as the rider
of that gelding.
Mr. P. Jones explanation for T.
Barras failing to appear in the race book as the rider of MATRIARCH was accepted.
L. Smith replaced C. Robertson as the rider
of MYOPIC due to C. Robertson becoming indisposed.
MATRIARCH (T. Barras) commenced to hang out
from the 900 metres and on entering the straight ran off. Mr. P. Jones, trainer of
MATRIARCH, was advised that the mare would be required to pass a satisfactory barrier
trial before being accepted for a race again.
FINAL CHANCE (M. Evans) was held up for a
run from the 500 metres until about the 400 metres when that filly shifted in and bumped
CHANGE THE STYLE (C. Lindop).
