BRUMBIES SIGNWRITING HURDLE
SPOKANE (G. Preston) ran off when
approaching the hurdle in the vicinity of the 1600 metres and as a result was retired from
the event. That geldings trainer, Mr. D. Londregan, was advised that SPOKANE must
complete a hurdle school to the satisfaction of the Stewards before accepting for any
future hurdle races.
WASH N WEAR dislodged its
rider, P. Greig, at the hurdle in the vicinity of the 1600 metres. P. Greig was uninjured
in the fall.
Ms. C. Bird, acting for trainer Mr. B.
Richardson, was advised that a warning had been place on NASSIRAY (NZ) in relation to its
poor performance in todays event.

TROPICAL ITCH (NZ) was examined by
the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon shortly after arriving on course and was passed fit to
take its place in the field.
Shortly after the start FLOODED (NZ) (C.
Bryant) shifted out and bumped BORNEO BEAUTY (B. Claridge).
Approaching the 200 metres FLOODED (NZ) (C.
Bryant) shifted in and as a result BORNEO BEAUTY (B. Claridge) had to be steadied.
Shortly after the 200 metres FLOODED (NZ)
(C. Bryant) again shifted in and as a result BORNEO BEAUTY (B. Claridge) had to be
steadied.
C. Bryant was reminded of his obligations
when riding his mounts out to the line.
RACE 4 CITY OF MT GAMBIER /
SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (Division 1)
CHANGE THE ACT (D. Mittiga) was
slow to begin.
BIG AMY (NZ) (C. Bryant) jumped out at the
start and bumped BONNIE WEE CHARLIE (T. Barras) and as a result that gelding had to be
checked off the heels of MONDERWYK (S. Harrison).
RACE 5 CITY OF MT GAMBIER /
SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (Division 2)
CHEEKY ROSIE (D. Mittiga) was slow
to begin.
ARMS RAISED (C. Bryant) raced fiercely in
the early stages of the race.
In the vicinity of the 500 metres ARMS
RAISED (C. Bryant) shifted out and as a result DANGER CHARGER (D. Tootell) had to be
steadied momentarily.
RACE 6 CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 1
HANDICAP
WINFIELDS SHADOW (NZ) (C.
Bryant) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out sharply. As a result CHECKAROO (K. Post),
which was taken out, contacted the heels of WINFIELDS SHADOW (NZ) and stumbled.
In the vicinity of the 1100 metres SOLAR
GREY (T. Barras), which commenced to pull fiercely, shifted out and bumped CHECKAROO (K.
Post), which in turn shifted out and bumped KEEN ON BILL (D. Tootell).
In the vicinity of the 700 metres SOLAR
GREY (T. Barras) shifted in and as a result VERY QUIET (M. Hagley) had to be steadied for
a few strides. T. Barras was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
Over the concluding stages VERY QUIET (M.
Hagley) showed a tendency to lay in causing its rider to stop riding and straighten her
mount. M. Hagley was advised by the Stewards, despite the fact that her mare had shown a
tendency to lay in, she was instructed that she must ride her mounts more strongly to the
line.

A swab sample was taken from HAPPEN
TO BE, winner of the race.
VAN DER HAAR (C. Bryant) was held up for a
clear run approaching the 200 metres.
RACE 8 BORDER WATCH MAIDEN
PLATE
Correct Weight was delayed in being
declared for this event when D. Yendall, rider of the fourth placegetter SPLURGES, wished
to view the official photo finish print for third as well as viewing the Stewards
patrol film regarding an incident in the vicinity of the 1200 metres. After viewing all
films, in conjunction with the Stewards, Correct Weight was duly declared.
RED RONALD (B. Blacker) stood flat-footed
at the start and as a result lost considerable ground. Trainer, Mrs. H. Frew, was advised
that a warning had been placed on RED RONALD in relation to its barrier manners.
Over the concluding stages of the race J.
Burgess, rider of ETTAMOGAH LAD, accidentally struck D. Yendall, rider of SPLURGES, with
her whip on a couple of occasions. J. Burgess was reminded of her obligations in relation
to her whip action over the concluding stages.
GENERAL:
Trainer, Mr. M. OLeary, was
fined the sum of $50 for late declaration of riders on three horses; Race 3 COME ON
ROSES (G. Hoobin) and Race 6 VERY QUIET (M. Hagley) and GETTONOAH (NZ) (G. Hoobin).
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into J.
Wallace failing to fulfill his riding engagement on KAAT on Thursday, 16th
August 2001. J. Wallace was subsequently charged under LR 65A with failing to fulfill is
riding engagement and was fined the sum of $300. |
