Moonee Valley (VIC) - Saturday 27 April 2002
Track: SLOW
Weather: FINE
Rail:
TRUE POSITION

Riding Changes: Nil

Race 1 - ROSEMOUNT ESTATE BOB BARR SMITH HURDLE - about 3200 metres:

Rounding the first turn "Crown Duo (NZ)" clipped the heels of "Classic Kid" (M. Mills), and had to be checked when that gelding shifted in when not sufficiently clear. "River Boy", racing on the outside of "Classic Kid", had also shifted in at this stage. As there was some doubt as to whether M. Mills was fully responsible, the Stewards took no action other than to severely reprimand him, and notify him that he must exercise far more care when shifting ground in future.

After jumping the obstacle near the 1000 metres "King Zoffany" was bumped by "Crown Duo (NZ)", which shifted in on landing.

Race 2 - ANDALE BEER DISPENSING EQUIPMENT PLATE - 1000 metres:

On jumping away "Bahamian Rhapsody" knuckled.

Shortly after the start "College Crest" had to be checked when tightened for room between "Emitella" and "Bahamian Rhapsody", which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. V. Caddy, rider of "Bahamian Rhapsody" was reprimanded, and notified that he must exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Rounding the turn near the 600 metres "Emitella", which was racing greenly, had to be checked when tightened for room on two occasions due to "Bahamian Rhapsody" initially shifting in away from "Mighty Mirage", and then being brushed by "Mighty Mirage", which resulted in "Bahamian Rhapsody" again shifting in.

In the straight "Gibernau" laid in under pressure.

During the running of the race "Undenied" lost its near hind plate.

Race 3 - MOTHERS MILK TROPHY - 2040 metres:

"Mystic Melody" cast its near fore plate prior to the race, and had to be re-plated, which resulted in the start of the race being delayed.

"Mystic Melody" refused to jump with the field when the gates were released, and took no part in the race. Mr. G. Dalziel, trainer of "Mystic Melody", was notified that the mare was suspended from racing until such time as it performs to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a trial.

Race 4 - IDENTICORP PLATE - 2040 metres:

After passing the winning post the first time "Lexitaw" had to be eased when tightened for room between "Suave Lover" and "Blacktype Magic", which both shifted ground slightly.

The Stewards charged Michelle Payne, rider of "Lexitaw", with careless riding, the careless riding being that rounding the home turn she permitted her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of "Blacktype Magic", thereby tightening "Blacktype Magic" in on to "Lord Ardsley (NZ)", which resulted in "Blacktype Magic" having to be checked. As Michelle Payne wished to call her Master, the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

Race 5 - MATHIESON GROUP FLYING - 1000 metres:

Near the 900 metres "Ruscidi", was inconvenienced due to "Crixia" shifting in.

Also at this stage "Our Blitz (NZ)" had to be eased to avoid the heels of "The Mooksta" (R. Martin), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. R. Martin will be notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Race 6 - CARLTON DRAUGHT TRAVIS HARRISON CUP - 1500 metres:

"Si Senor" began awkwardly, shifted in and as a result "Raami Romancer", "Diamond Heir" and "Lancaster's Gold" were hampered.

Race 7 - HOTEL CARE TROPHY - 1500 metres:

En route to the start D. Nikolic, rider of "Hula Wonder", was dislodged.

On jumping away "Hula Wonder" and "Classic Benbara" were tightened for room between "Gold Boom", which shifted in slightly, and "Helsinborg", which shifted out.

Rounding the home turn "Our Guided Missile (NZ)" had to be checked when tightened for room between "Classic Benbara", which shifted in abruptly, and "Hula Wonder", which shifted out away from "Helsinborg", which was also shifting out.

Race 8 - THE WATERLOO CUP HOTEL - 1200 metres:

On the turn near the 800 metres "Abyssinian" shifted out and took "Lightning Tears" out on to "Delargo", resulting in "Delargo" being forced wide.

Rounding the home turn "Ourwina" shifted out across the heels of "Feel the Noise", which had to be checked.. As a result "Easy Virtue", which was following had to shift out abruptly, and in so doing hampered "Abyssinian".

"Ourwina" continued to hang out for the remainder of the race, resulting in B. Ward having difficulty in riding his mount out in his normal manner.

S. Sharman, rider of "Abyssinian", advised the Stewards that after travelling well in the early stages of the race his mount failed to respond to his riding from the middle stages, and he could offer no other explanation for its poor performance. A veterinary examination of "Abyssinian" failed to reveal any abnormality.

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of all races today.

FINES/EXPLANATIONS:

It was established that W. Davis had been notified as the rider of "College Crest", which ran in the Andale Beer Dispensing Equipment Plate, in accordance with the Rules.
