Race 1 - CARLTON DRAUGHT HANDICAP - 1528
metres:
In the middle stages of the race the saddle on "You
Little Beaut" shifted forward, inconveniencing its jockey, M. Zahra.
On the home turn "Nobody", when giving ground,
had to be checked when tightened for room by "On the Green", which obtained a
narrow run between "Nobody" and "Silver Birch", and then shifted in
slightly away from that gelding.
Also on the home turn "Lucky Punch" was tightened
for room between "Trust 'n' Betrayal" and "On the Green".
In the straight "On the Green" was reluctant to
take a narrow run between "You Little Beaut" and "Silver Birch".
Race 2 - MV GREAT RACER SWEEPSTAKE HANDICAP -
1000 metres:
Prior to the event an amended stable return was lodged to
show N. Wilson, R. Healy, R. Tang, K. A. & C. J. Pettiona and P. D. Stiles as
nominators of "Rapidash".
On jumping away "Around the Block" and
"Rapidash" bumped. "Around the Block" then knuckled.
Near the 600 metres "Tan Tat" had to be checked
off the heels of "Rapidash" which, in turn, had to be checked off the heels of
'Around the Block".
On the home turn "Tan Tat" was inconvenienced
when tightened for room between "Martella" and "Rapidash", which
shifted out.
Race 3 - J. C. MILTON & KERCKHAERT
HANDICAP - 2500 metres:
No report.
Race 4 - WESTERN BULLDOGS MEMBERS TROPHY -
1200 metres:
At the start "Belle Ball (NZ)" was hampered by
"Disco Time", which shifted out.
"Chickie" was slow to begin.
In the straight "Bellistic Miss" was unable to
obtain a clear run.
"Summer Rule" also had difficulty obtaining a
clear run for the majority of the straight.
Near the winning post "Madame Plume (NZ)" had to
be eased when tightened for room between "Summer Rule" and "Guide",
which shifted out.
Race 5 - MV MEMBERSHIP HANDICAP - 1600 metres:
This race inadvertently appeared as a race for
Four-Years-Old and Upwards Mares One Metro Win instead of One Metro Win in the Last Year.
"Kawasaki San (NZ)" jumped away awkwardly, and
lost ground.
Near the 1200 metres "Another Party", which was
over-racing., had to be checked off the heels of "Alephea".
Near the 1100 metres "Solar Song", which was
laying out, had to be checked off the heels of "Preietta".
In the straight "Our Dane" shifted out under
pressure and made contact with "Another Party".
On the home turn "Preietta" was hampered and had
to be checked when tightened for room between "Kawasaki San (NZ)", which shifted
in slightly, and "Another Party" (S. Arnold), which shifted out. The tightening
was aggravated when "Another Party", after being brushed on the hindquarters by
"Preietta", was taken out further. S. Arnold was notified to exercise more care
when shifting ground in future.
During the running of the race "Solar Song"
suffered a bleeding attack.
Race 6 - QANTAS FLYING - 1000 metres:
Near the 600 metres "Keep me in Mind", when being
steadied off the heels of "Zashmir", shifted in and crashed through the running
rail, and fell. As the Stewards wished to interview Mr. Robbie Laing, trainer of
"Keep me in Mind" who was not present this evening, the matter was adjourned to
a date to be fixed.
Also near the 600 metres "Coronation Lass (NZ)",
when being steadied, shifted out across the heels of "Comedy Snip" (D. Nikolic),
which shifted in when not quite sufficiently clear. D. Nikolic was notified to ensure that
he is clear of other runners when shifting ground in future.
On the home turn "Coronation Lass (NZ)", when
obtaining a narrow run on the inside of "My Kirana" (Michelle Payne), had to be
checked when that mare, which had a tendency to lay in, shifted in away from "All
Lustre" under pressure. "Coronation Lass (NZ)" was then disappointed for a
run for some distance on the inside of "My Kirana", which continued to lay in.
After taking into account all the circumstances the Stewards reprimanded Michelle Payne,
and notified her that she must make a far greater effort to ensure that runners on her
inside have sufficient galloping room.
Rounding the home turn "Panorama Heights" was
held up when unable to obtain a clear run, and at the entrance to the straight was
disappointed for a run between "Brother's Jest" and "Taj Lotto" where
there was insufficient room. "Zashmir", which was following, was hampered.
In the straight "All Lustre" hung in, and
Christine Puls was unable to ride the gelding out in her normal manner.
Race 7 - CLUB COZMO HANDICAP - 1600 metres:
Running to the 1200 metres "Mr. Gweilo" shifted
in slightly and hampered "Teddy Cheval", which was over-racing.
On the home turn "Irish Intrigue" brushed the
running rail.
