Race 1 - CARLTON DRAUGHT FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1500 metres:

When the gates opened "Bella Megano" reared and lost ground as a consequence.

Near the 400 metres "The Byng Bunyip" had to be checked when tightened for room between "Our Blue Sienna" and "Just Precious (NZ)", which shifted out. B. Park, rider of "Just Precious (NZ)", was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Race 2 - SIR JAMES MOE FOODWAY COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE - 1500 metres:

"Hunnia" jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in "Our El Moxie" clipping the heels of that gelding.

At the crossing near the 1200 metres "Picolo Toro" and "Heleray Star" knuckled.

Near the 900 metres "Loch Alsh", when pulling hard, shifted out to avoid the heels of "Le Blanc (NZ)", resulting in "Heaps of Pride", which was following, clipping the heels of that gelding and almost falling.

Also near the 900 metres "Picolo Toro" shifted in away from "Melbourne D'Or" and brushed the running rail.

Race 3 - SIR JAMES SORRENTO HOTEL CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

The Stewards questioned R. Booth, rider of "Piggery Hill", regarding the manner in which he used his whip in the straight. R. Booth was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he struck his mount with his whip forward of the shoulder.

Race 4 - CARLTON DRAUGHT TBV RED RUBY SUPER VOBIS TWO-YEARS-OLD FILLIES HANDICAP (HEAT 3) - 1200 metres:

When the gates opened "Belle Frimousse" jumped away awkwardly and brushed "Speck of Ginger".

Also on jumping away "African Rain" was tightened for room between "Rancherie", which shifted in slightly, and "Philosophical", which shifted out slightly.

Race 5 - CRUISE TO ALASKA CLASS 1ANDICAP (1) - 2000 metres:

"Ballyvourney" was slow to begin.

Race 6 - SIR JAMES RHODES FOODWAY CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 2000 metres:

Approaching the 600 metres "Suave Lover" had to be eased off the heels of "Specular", which shifted out slightly.

Race 7 - SIR JAMES DROMANA CELLARS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (2) - 2000 metres:

No report.

Race 8 - SIR JAMES PHILLIP ISLAND I.G.A. CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

Apprentice A. Masters was fined the sum of $200 for failing to fulfil his ride on "Sophie Princess (NZ)" for which he was found to be overweight.

When the gates opened "Supreme Heights (NZ)" shifted in and tightened "Solovei" on to "Our Vain (NZ)".

Near the 1000 metres "Sophie Princess" had to be eased when tightened for room between "Soviet Son" and "Buckeye Blue", which shifted in slightly.

Shortly after this "Buckeye Blue" had to be eased when tightened for room between "Soviet Son" and "Arch Ripa", which shifted in away from "Red Edition".

Race 9 - SIR JAMES BERWICK INN CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

When the gates opened "Poetic Pursuit" was slow to begin.

Approaching the 300 metres "Liquid Steel (NZ)" and "Ebonize" came together due to both horses shifting ground slightly.

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from "Rumah Batik", winner of the Sir James Sorrento Hotel Class 2 Handicap - Race 3; from "Speck of Ginger", winner of the Carlton Draught TBV Red Ruby Super Vobis Two-Years-Old Fillies Handicap (Heat 3) - (Race 4); from "Café Pompeii (NZ), winner of the Sir James Rhodes Foodway Class 6 Handicap - Race 6, and from "Cheron Kenny", winner of the Sir James Dromana Cellars Class 1 Handicap (2) - Race 7.

A random swab sample was taken from "Helikon", which ran unplaced in the Sir James Moe Foodway Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Plate - Race 2.

Five horses were pre-race tested for post-race analysis.

FINES/EXPLANATIONS:

The Stewards accepted the explanation of Mr. R. J. Skelton, trainer of "Gold Sky", for the late notification of R. Waymouth as the rider of the filly which ran in the Sir James Dromana Cellars Class 1 Handicap (2) - Race 7.
