Race 1 - STEEPLES TABARET FILLIES AND MARES
MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres:
As "Janey Jugah" was unable to be loaded into the
stalls, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the mare at 1.05 p.m.
After being kicked behind the barriers "Rhiannon's
Spirit" was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, and declared unfit to run.
Acting on veterinary advice the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "Rhiannon's
Spirit" at 1.05 p.m.
Subsequently the Stewards ordered that all monies wagered
on "Janey Jugah" and "Rhiannon's Spirit" be refunded, and that all
successful bets on horses prior to the time of withdrawal of "Janey Jugah" and
"Rhiannon's Spirit" be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from
the face value of the ticket: Win Bets: Ten Cents; Place Bets: Twelve Cents; Winning
Concession Bets: Ten Cents, and Doubles Bets: Ten Cents. All monies bet after the
Stewards' declaration of withdrawal were ordered to be paid at face value of the ticket.
Acting on a report from the Starter regarding the unruly
behaviour of "Janey Jugah" at the barrier, the Stewards notified
part-owner/trainer Mrs. S. Borschmann that an official warning would be recorded against
the mare for her performance today, and that prior to racing again a barrier test
certificate in respect of the mare must be lodged.
When the gates opened "Fleur de Moi" was hampered
when tightened for room between "Zecchino", which shifted in, and
"Elameerah", which shifted out.
Near the 1000 metres "Fleur de Moi" accidentally
clipped the heels of "Ice Drop", which shifted out slightly.
Near the 500 metres "Fleur de Moi" had to be
eased to avoid the heels of "Zecchino", which shifted in.
Approaching the 100 metres and until the end of the race
"Miss Scotia" was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
Approaching the winning post "Fleur de Moi"
shifted out and bumped "Proud Run".
Race 2 - EAT WELL LIVE WELL THREE-YEARS-OLD
FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE - 1500 metres:
When the gates opened "Delightful Attire" was
slow to begin.
Near the 900 metres "Zo Ally" was hampered when
tightened for room between "Tennessee D'Or", which shifted out slightly, and
"Tarcoola Star", which shifted in slightly.
Near the 200 metres "Sweet Destiny" had to be
checked when tightened for room by "Ella Corina" which, when having a tendency
to lay in, then shifted in slightly.
Shortly after this "Stand Clear" had to be
checked when tightened for room between "Zo Ally", which shifted in slightly,
and "Ella Corina", which shifted out.
For the majority of the straight "Ella Corina"
hung in under pressure.
Race 3 - CARLTON DRAUGHT
MAIDEN PLATE - 2000 metres:
Rounding the home turn "Brave Raami" had to be
checked severely when tightened for room by "El Creido (Arg.) which, when weakening,
shifted in slightly away from "Zadonna", which also shifted in slightly away
from "Classic Impetuous". As no one rider was fully responsible for the incident
the Stewards took no action.
Race 4 - LIMERICK LANE THOROUGHBREDS CLASS 2
HANDICAP - 1000 metres:
At the entrance to the straight "Final Dividend",
which was laying out, had to be checked when tightened for room between "Dancing
Phoenix", which shifted in slightly, and "Land Rule", which shifted out
slightly.
An veterinary examination of "Final Dividend",
which was eased down in the straight by its rider, failed to reveal any abnormality.
Race 5 - LIMERICK LANE THOROUGHBREDS HANDICAP
- 1500 metres:
Apprentice C. Symons, rider of "Camilla's Beau",
fifth placegetter, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in.
After passing the 200 metres "Mr. Donizetti (NZ)"
was held up for a short distance when unable to obtain a clear run.
Race 6 - CROWN CASINO CLASS 3 HANDICAP
- 1500 metres:
Rounding the home turn "Buckeye Blue" was
held up for some distance when unable to obtain a clear run.
Race 7 - CROWN CASINO CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 2000
metres:
On pulling up "Might Be (NZ)" was found to be
sore, which resulted in N. Callow, rider of the mare, dismounting, which resulted in N.
Callow being unable to return to the scales to weigh in. As the Stewards were satisfied
that N. Callow had carried his allotted weight correct weight was declared.
Rounding the home turn "Verbito", which had
commenced to weaken, had to be eased when tightened for room between "Firetaine
(NZ)", which shifted out slightly, and "Destined for Fame", which shifted
in slightly.
Subsequent to the race the Club's Veterinary Surgeon
reported that "Might Be (NZ)" was lame in the near fore leg. Mr. Tony Noonan,
trainer of "Might Be (NZ)", was notified that prior to the mare racing again he
must produce a veterinary clearance for it.
Race 8 - WIZARD HOME LOANS CLASS 1 HANDICAP -
1500 metres:
Near the 1000 metres "Stylish Bid" was severely
hampered when tightened for room between "Ironbark Mac" and "Blue Sapphire
(NZ)", which shifted in. J. Winks, rider of "Blue Sapphire (NZ)", was
severely reprimanded, and was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in
future.
After passing the 200 metres "Temple of Gold"
shifted in and brushed "Richwood Lad".
SWAB SAMPLES were taken from "Gold
Duo", the winner of the Steeples Tabaret Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate - Race 1;
from "Our Vain (NZ)", the winner of the Carlton Draught Maiden Plate -
Race 3; from "Diff", winner of the Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds Class 2 Handicap
- Race 4; from "Daneforce", winner of the Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds Handicap -
Race 5, and from "Very Adamant", winner of the Crown Casino Class 3 Handicap -
Race 6.
FINES/EXPLANATIONS: Mr. D. Harrison, trainer
of "Strelka (NZ)", which ran in the Carlton Draught Maiden Plate - Race 3 - was
fined $30 for using wrong colours on the gelding. |
