Race 1 - ROCKPORT SHOES FROM PETER
SHEPPARD SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 2000 metres:
On arrival at the barrier "Carry me Home (NZ)"
was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and was found to be lame in the near fore
leg. Acting on veterinary advice the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at
11.38 a.m.
Subsequently the Stewards ordered that all monies wagered
on "Carry me Home (NZ)" be refunded, and that all successful bets on horses
prior to the time of withdrawal of "Carry me Home (NZ)" be subject to the
following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win Bets: Seven
cents; Place Bets: Seven cents; Winning Concession Bets: Seven cents, and Doubles Bets:
Seven cents. All monies wagered after the Stewards' declaration of withdrawal were ordered
to be paid at face value of the ticket.
Passing the winning post the first time "Racy
Gracy", which was pulling hard, got its head up when being eased off the heels of
"Mollo Mollo", which shifted in.
Race 2 - ECCO SHOES FROM PETER SHEPPARD
SUPER VOBIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres:
Near the 900 metres "Judge Flowers" had to be
eased off the heels of "Hickok" when taken in by "Dynamic Impression".
Near the 800 metres "Judge Flowers", which was
hanging out, inconvenienced "Bullish Gleam".
Near the 200 metres "Silk Armour" had to be
checked when tightened for room by "Dream Billions", which initially was
tightened for room by "Bullish Gleam", and then continued to shift in away from
that colt. G. Eades, rider of "Bullish Gleam", was severely reprimanded, and
notified that he must exercise far greater care in future.
Race 3 - AMALFI SHOES FROM PETER SHEPPARD
MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres:
On jumping away "Unbridled's Bronze" and
"Pencarrow" were tightened for room between "Lunch Money" and
'Main Mission", which shifted out.
Near the 1000 metres "Main Mission" had to be
checked when tightened for room by "Pencarrow", which was taken in by
"Dolphin Peak" (R. Waymouth), which shifted in. R. Waymouth was severely
reprimanded, and notified that he must exercise far greater care in future. "North
Road", which was following, was hampered in consequence.
Approaching the 900 metres and for some distance "Main
Mission" got its head up when being restrained off the heels of other runners.
On return to scale "Main Mission" was found to be
suffering from a lacerated mouth.
Race 4 - RAISE A GRAND SUPER VOBIS
THREE-YEARS-OLD FILLIES CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200 metres:
On jumping away "A Thousand Drinks" and
"Carnaby Kiss" bumped due to both horses shifting ground.
Race 5 - BALLY SHOES FROM PETER SHEPPARD
CLASSS 1 FILLIES AND MARES HANDICAP - 1500 metres:
"Mooktarella" was slow to begin.
Near the 900 metres "Vixen" had to be checked off
the heels of "Westfield", and in doing so shifted out and hampered "Joie de
Verve". "My Queen (NZ)", which was following, clipped the heels of
"Joie de Verve", and lost ground.
Near the 400 metres "Westfield", when being
checked off the heels of "Brigantine", shifted out and inconvenienced
"Vixen".
Race 6 - CARLTON DRAUGHT EASTER CUP - CLASS 5 - 1500
metres:
Subsequent to the running of Race 5 the Stewards
were notified by Mr. J. Houlahan that his runner, "Tangible", had suffered an
injury during the week, and that he had omitted to scratch the gelding at the appropriate
time. The Stewards then withdrew "Tangible" from the race at 2.08 p.m., and
subsequently ordered the following deductions: All monies wagered on "Tangible"
be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to the time of withdrawal of
"Tangible" be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face
value of the ticket: Win Bets: Seven cents; place bets: Eight cents; Winning Concession
Bets: Seven cents and Doubles Bets: Seven cents.
All monies wagered after the Stewards' declaration of
withdrawal were ordered to be paid at face value of the ticket.
Mr. J. Houlahan was fined the sum of $1,000 for failing to
scratch the gelding in accordance with the Rules.
Race 7 - SPERRY SHOES FROM PETER
SHEPPARD CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1000 metres:
When the gates opened "Hasty Gossip" lost
considerable ground.
Race 8 - LOGGIA SHOES FROM PETER
SHEPPARD CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1200 metres:
"Mr. Orbit (NZ)" was slow to begin.
G. Mathrick, rider of "Forest Row", could offer
no explanation for the gelding's poor performance. A veterinary examination revealed no
abnormalities.
Race 9 - MUNRO SHOES FROM PETER SHEPPARD CLASS
2 HANDICAP - 2000 metres:
After being placed in its starting stall "Royal
flipper" reared. The gelding was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed
fit to run.
When the gates opened for the start of the race
"Tineke" reared and dislodged its rider, B.Park. Correct weight was delayed as
the Stewards wished to ascertain whether "Tineke" had been denied a fair start.
After viewing the official video the Stewards deemed "Tineke" to be a runner,
and correct weight was declared.
Mr. Mark Webb, who was acting on behalf of his brother, Mr.
S. Webb, trainer of the gelding, was notified that "Tineke" is now suspended
from racing until such time as it trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards, at which
time it must be in receipt of a barrier test certificate.
Near the 1000 metres "Beach Symphony" had to be
checked off the riderless "Tineke", which shifted in.
On the home turn the riderless horse "Tineke"
shifted out and hampered "Beach Symphony", "Sealed Orders" and forced
"Wijan" wide..
SWAB SAMPLES were taken from "Finnian
(NZ)", winner of the Ecco Shoes from Peter Sheppard Super Vobis Two-Years-Old Maiden
Plate - Race 2; from "My Fraarlein", winner of the Bally Shoes from Peter
Sheppard Class 1 Fillies and Mares Handicap - Race 5; from "Snip a Dane", winner
of the Carlton Draught Easter Cup - Race 6;
A random swab sample was taken from "Finsea",
fourth placegetter in the Sperry Shoes from Peter Sheppard Class 1 Handicap - Race 7.
Six horses were pre-race blood tested for post-race
analysis.
FINES/EXPLANATIONS:
The Stewards accepted the explanation of Mr. C. Brown,
trainer of "Momentary Madness", for the late notification of V. Duric as the
rider of the mare which ran in the Amalfi Shoes from Peter Sheppard Maiden Plate - Race 3. |
