RACE 1 - AYGEE GIPPSLAND FILLIES & MARES
MAIDEN PLATE 1100 METRES.
Acting on a report from the Starter that "Beyond
Red" had proved difficult to load and delayed the start of the race, Stewards
notified Mr. S. Sudarno, representing Mr. R. Lawson, trainer of "Beyond Red"
that an official warning would be placed against the filly for her behaviour today and
that prior to "Beyond Red" racing again, a Barrier Test Certificate must be
produced.
On jumping away, "Flamin' Rabbit" had to be
checked and "On Amber" was tightened for room between "D'or Fille"
which shifted in and "Kyiv Magic" which shifted out.
"Ski Miss" began awkwardly.
E. Cassar, rider of "Beyond Red", fifth
place-getter, was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the
race. Stewards did not deem that E. Cassar's actions affected the placings in the race.
RACE 2 - RAPIDVITE 3YO SUPER VOBIS MDN PL.
1600 METRES.
"Polaire" began awkwardly and lost ground.
At the entrance to the straight, "Jadeline"
shifted out and had to be checked off the heels of "Main Mission".
Near the 400 metres, "Waratah Secret" had to be
checked when tightened for room between "Polaire" which shifted in and
"Pencarrow" which shifted out.
Near the 300 metres, "Jadeline" had to be eased
when tightened for room between "Shining Symbol" and "Main Mission"
due to both horses shifting ground slightly.
Near the 200 metres, "Main Mission" became
unbalanced due to being bumped by "Sir Claude" which was hampered and taken in
off its course by "Polaire" (N. Callow) which shifted in under pressure. After
taking into account that "Polaire" had a tendency to get its head up and lay in,
Stewards took no action other than to reprimand N. Callow and notify him that he must make
every attempt to straighten his mounts and avoid causing interference in similar
circumstances in future.
Rounding the home turn and for some distance in the
straight, "Shining Symbol" was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
N. Callow, rider of "Polaire", was questioned in
relation to the manner in which he used his whip near the 150 metres. N. Callow explained
that he used his whip in an unorthodox manner in which he attempted to prevent his mount
from shifting in. N. Callow added that, in his opinion, he struck the horse on the near
side shoulder with his whip. N. Callow was notified that the Stewards were concerned with
his whip action and were particularly concerned that he may have struck his mount forward
of the shoulder. After taking into account N. Callow's evidence and after viewing the
Stewards patrol video and the side on video, Stewards deemed that it was inconclusive as
to where the whip had struck the horse. N. Callow was notified that in future, he must use
his whip in a manner that leaves no room for query.
RACE 3 - CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 1 HANDICAP.
1200 METRES.
Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. A.
Macpherson, trainer of "Monopoly Money (NZ)", who stated that due to a float
mishap, he was unable to transport the gelding to the course. Stewards ordered the
withdrawal of "Monopoly Money (NZ)" at 10.40 a.m.

Near the 700 metres, "Redentore" shifted out
after being eased off the heels of "Sensor" which shifted out slightly and in
doing so, hampered "Geiger Tiger". "Keningly", which was following,
was hampered in consequence.
Rounding the home turn, "Keningly" became
unbalanced when weakening.

"Seattle Power", "Ballyvourney" and
"Bangholme" were all slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, "Kamsack" had to be
checked when tightened for room between "Royal Maestro" and" Divine
Rhythm" which was laying in.
Near the 1100 metres, "Tip The Atlantic", when
being eased off the heels of "Marphil" shifted out resulting in
"Kaisersosa", which had a tendency to over-race, being taken out across the
heels of "Divine Rhythm" and in doing so, clipped that mare's heels and then
shifted out further, resulting in "Royal Maestro" having to be checked severely.
As the Stewards did not attribute the cause of the incident to any one rider, no
action was taken.
Near the 800 metres, "Divine Rhythm" was
tightened for room by "Kaisersosa" which shifted in.
N. Callow, rider of "Seattle Power", which
performed poorly, stated that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages of
the race, but was a beaten horse after being placed under pressure after passing the 600
metres. A subsequent veterinary examination of "Seattle Power" revealed no
abnormalities.
