Moe (VIC) - Tuesday 2 April 2002
Weather: FINE
Rail: TRUE

Riding Changes:

Race - Horse - Rider - Replaced By - Reason
1 - "Paparazzo" - G. Eades - A. Darmanin - Indisposed
3 - "Sunday Swing" - R. Wheeler - L. Milham - Indisposed
5 - "La Cimbali (NZ)" - G. Eades - B. Fenech - Indisposed
8 - "Aqua Caldo" - R. Wheeler - G. Mathrick - Indisposed

RACE 1 - RAPIDVITE MAIDEN PLATE 1600 METRES.

"Paparazzo" was slow to begin. Near the 1200 metres, "Sensor", when hanging, shifted out across the heels of "Cheron Kenny". "Ski Warrior" which was following, was hampered in consequence. D. Short, rider of "Raazaular", second place-getter, lodged an objection against "Ruling Ranch" being declared the winner on the grounds of interference for the majority of the home straight. After hearing evidence from the parties concerned and after viewing all the official videos, Stewards dismissed the objection. It was established that in the early part of the straight, "Raazaular" and "Ruling Ranch" brushed due to both horses shifting ground. Near the 50 metres, "Raazaular" and "Ruling Ranch" again brushed due to both horses shifting ground. "Raazaular" and "Ruling Ranch" continued to shift out under pressure approaching the winning post.

RACE 2 - RAPIDVITE FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1100 METRES.

Prior to correct weight being declared, Ms. K. Cook, rider of "Dame Rivette", second place-getter, requested to view the Stewards patrol video of the home straight with a view to lodging an objection. After viewing the video, Ms. Cook lodged an objection against "Kelcheck" being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference near the 100 metres. After hearing evidence from the parties concerned and after viewing all the official videos, Stewards dismissed the objection. It was established that near the 100 metres, "Kelcheck" shifted out abruptly. Ms. Cook was severely reprimanded for having lodged an objection which bordered on being frivolous. M. Pegus, rider of "Lady Madeleine", was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that approaching the 100 metres, he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of "Novotaine (NZ)" resulting in that filly having to be checked. M. Pegus was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on the 2nd April, 2002 and to expire at midnight on the 19th April, 2002.

RACE 3 - CARLTON DRAUGHT SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1600 METRES.

On jumping away, "Dance The Bride" was tightened for room between "Kenriva" and "Bastille Rule" which shifted out. Shortly after the start, "Seeing's Believing (NZ)" had to be checked when tightened for room by "Bastille Rule" which was taken in by "Kenriva" (J. Haitana) which shifted in after initially shifting away from "Rhumba Spirit" which also shifted in. J. Haitana was reprimanded and notified to exercise far greater care when shifting ground in future. Approaching the 1200 metres, "Accatel" had to be checked when tightened for room by "Bastille Rule" which was hampered when tightened for room by "True Wadey" which shifted in away from "Midtane Kid" which was racing tight on the inside of "Test Eagle". After taking into account all the circumstances and as the evidence was inconclusive, Stewards took no action other than to notify all of the riders to take the utmost care to avoid causing interference at all times. Near the 100 metres, "Midtane Kid" was hampered by "Kenriva" which shifted in under pressure. On return to scale, it was reported that "Seeing's Believing (NZ)" had a laceration to its near fore cannon. An inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed into the reason for B. White, rider of "True Wadey" having left the course prior to gaining a clearance to do so.

RACE 4 - BIG AL'S CATERING CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1600 METRES.

"Little Tonic" was slow to begin. Rounding the home turn, "Bergen Breeze" became unbalanced when racing tight between "Ovation" and "Amalfi Interest" which shifted in slightly. Over the concluding stages of the race, "Ovation" had difficulty obtaining a clear run. Prior to correct weight being declared, R. Wood, rider of "Bergen Breeze", equal fourth place-getter, requested to view the Stewards patrol video between the 400 metres and the 200 metres with a view to lodging an objection. After viewing all of the videos, R. Wood decided not to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared.

RACE 5 - JOHN MOORE PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS 5 HANDICAP 2050 METRES.

In the early and middle stages of the race, "Bewdy James" raced ungenerously. Approaching the 400 metres, "Fabio" shifted in and hampered "Carnival Magic”. Rounding the home turn, "Alroy" was held up. After passing the 200 metres, "Carnival Magic", which was weakening, had to be eased when tightened for room between "Force Of Habit" and "Alroy" which shifted out. Prior to correct weight being declared, P. Mertens, rider of "Classic Prince (NZ)", fifth place-getter, lodged an objection against "Bewdy James" being declared fourth place-getter, on the grounds of alleged interference from the 300 metres to the winning post. After hearing evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing all the official videos, Stewards upheld the objection, the amended placings being: First "La Cimbali (NZ)" Second "Fabio" Third "Alroy" Fourth "Classic Prince" Fifth "Bewdy James" It was established that on straightening, "Classic Prince (NZ)" was hampered by "Bewdy James" (D. Smith) which shifted in abruptly. When being hampered, "Classic Prince (NZ)" shifted in and tightened "Unquiet Times". Shortly after this, "Unquiet Times" continued to race tight between "Close Quarters" and "Classic Prince (NZ)" which continued to shift in. "Unquiet Times" then had to be checked when bumped by "Close Quarters" which shifted out slightly. Near the 100 metres "Bewdy James" shifted in and inconvenienced "Classic Prince(NZ)". D. Smith was severely reprimanded and notified that he must make every effort to keep his mounts straight to avoid causing interference at all times. An inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed into the reason for the late notification of Ms. T. Gray as the rider of "Boortkoi Phantom".

RACE 6 - SEALED BID FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200 METRES.

"Scarlet Ark", which had been slow to begin, raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race. After passing the 100 metres, "Will She Work" shifted out and inconvenienced "Cameo Grey".

RACE 7 - WOLF BLASS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 METRES.

In the early part of the straight, "Cannes Mougins" shifted out and bumped "Lady Valois (NZ)".

RACE 8 - AYGEE GIPPSLAND CLASS 1 HANDICAP 2050 METRES.

An inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed into the reason for "Campbell" having to be checked after passing the 200 metres the first time. An inquiry was also adjourned to a date to be fixed into the reason for J. Anstice, rider of "Backstreet Boy" having left the course prior to gaining a clearance to do so.
