Race 1 Novice Hurdle-2899m

Rounding the home turn Yallah Limit shifted out and inconvenienced Sampan Man.

Race 2 - SV 3YO F Maiden Plate - 1100m

On jumping away Our Ladyhawk knuckled badly. Miss M. Payne rider of Our Ladyhawk stated that after faltering at the start she was concerned with the filly's action, and for this reason pulled Our Ladyhawk up near the 700 metres. A subsequent Veterinary examination of Our Ladyhawk revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Rounding the home turn Rare Dream had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run.

Race 3 - Bundaberg Rum F & M Class 4 Handicap - 1100m

Rounding the home turn B. Cross rider of Amanda Huggenkiss lost the use of his near side iron for a short distance, resulting in B. Cross becoming unbalanced.

B. Cross rider of Amanda Huggenkiss, which performed below expectations, explained that the mare travelled well in the early stages of the race, however when placed under pressure after passing the 600 metres, failed to respond to his riding and was a beaten horse from that point onwards. A subsequent Veterinary examination of Amanda Huggenkiss revealed that the mare was showing signs of a respiratory complaint.

Race 4 - Hahn Premium Class 6 Handicap - 1850m

After passing the 200 metres Wind Witch broke down, shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of Master George. Wind Witch was then pulled up by its rider. A subsequent Veterinary examination of Wind Witch revealed that the mare was lame in the near fore leg. Mr. N. Dyer trainer of Wind Witch was notified prior to the mare racing again, a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness must be produced.

Race 5 - Kyneton Cleaning Services Class 1 Handicap - 1200m

On jumping away Chinchilla News shifted out and bumped Begum (NZ).

Approaching the 800 metres Chinchilla News became unbalanced for a number of strides when racing tightly between Super Remo on the inside, and House Of Stouch, due mainly to Super Remo shifting out when being restrained off the heels of Velvet Ribbons.

For the majority of the straight Coupe Du Monde hung in and proved difficult to ride.

M. Allen, rider of House of Stouch was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Chinchilla News thereby taking that mare in, which resulted in Super Remo being tightened for room and taken in on to Coupe Du Monde, resulting in that gelding being severely checked. M. Allen was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence midnight 17th March, 2002 and to expire at midnight 2nd April, 2002.

Race 6 - St. Mary's Mission Class 1 Handicap - 1850m

On jumping away Carnochan knuckled.

Approaching the winning post the first time Old Red was tightened for room and Rittmeister had to be checked to avoid the heels of Brigantine (R. Wood), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. R. Wood was severely reprimanded and notified to exercise far greater care when shifting ground in future.

Race 7 - Bolton Motorcycles Class 3 Handicap - 1450m

At the entrance to the straight Stay Loose had to be eased when tightened for room between Clarendon's Curse and Mr. Endurance, which shifted out slightly.

Race 8 - Kyneton Electrics F & M Maiden Plate - 1450m

Near the 400 metres Enduring Gold had to be checked when attempting a run between Atlanta Rose and Janice Annette, where there was insufficient room.

When asked it he could offer any explanation for the improved performance of Star Indian, the winner, Mr. D. McCrohan trainer of the filly stated that in his opinion Star Indian had been unlucky at its two previous starts this time in. Mr. McCrohan added that Star Indian had always shown ability and had worked well in the lead up to this event and for this reason he had a small each way wager on the filly.
